LOL, I don't give a shit about whether some Ö-list voice actress likes my threads or not. But in all honesty, I actually misread her name. You can send her the link if you want.
And yet for some reason, only 3 of the top 500 Most Popular anime on KA have never been licensed in the US, AKA the source of 30-35% of KA's traffic. And there's only a dozen or so that were licensed in the past and are now out-of-print/expired. That sure seems like a lot of piracy by US viewers of titles that are available to them.

Unless a "barrier put up by content providers" simply means "asking viewers to pay for the entertainment they watch."
Nice try attempting to derail the conversation to make it revolve around general piracy, but that's not what this thread is about

Damn you skipped all the letters all the way to O. LMAO! You're funny Comic-Sans. :D

We don't need an excuse to begin with. It's their fault that people pirate. Simple as that.

Actually no it's not their fault. We CHOSE to pirate. We don't HAVE to, we CHOOSE to. Watching anime is privilege, not a right. A lot of anime is licensed where I live but I'm choosing to watch it illegally. And that my choice and my fault. No one else's. So sorry, that statement is one thing I don't agree with.

They offer a worse service than the illegal sites, ask you to pay for it, AND act like you're scum if you don't. How is not their fault?

Oh, wait, are you're talking about the anime not being licenced or the legal web sites?

The legal websites. I don't have a problem with the distribution part of the industry. Aniplex's prices are obviously ridiculous, but they're an outlier.

By the way, don't they watch anime for free in Japan on tv? Why do we have to play for it over here all censored and shit?

Normal people: "Oh hey this guy on the plane is anime that's not even normie stuff, that's cool."

Caitlin Glass: "What's this? Is that scum using YouTube? WHY DOES THIS MAN NOT OWN THE LIMITED PRINT BLU-RAYS FOR A FRANCHISE IN CONSTANT LICENSING HELL REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

This pissed me off. I kinda wanna watch Evangelion or Kodocha or something else she wouldn't approve of me watching now just because of how shitty this opinion is.

Literally who?

Yeah if you can go ahead and get all of my animu on streaming services then that's how I'll watch it.

But I remember watching an anime dub when I was younger. It aired on TV so it was 100% legit. I really liked it, but they cancelled the dub half way through. Later on I "borrowed" the full subbed series online. Subbed version had like 50% more episodes but still never caught up with the manga. So I've been buying the manga, but the last 3 out of 33 volumes aren't even available in English.

You just really can't always win when it comes to overseas releases, especially when you don't know Japanese. Am I supposed to learn Japanese and then import the DVD version at exorbitant prices? Oh, yeah, that's illegal, too. They put region restrictions on DVD players so you can't do that.

I don't know who Caitlin Grass is, but I don't think she's ever watched anime. If she has, she's never watched anything that isn't super mainstream. If she did then she would realize how difficult it actually is to actually see a series through to completion even when it was licensed in your country to begin with. Even when you're trying your best to pay for the content, you're screwed over by those last three seasons or volumes that they never bothered to localize.
My name is 3DPD and this is my Internet forum signature. If there's anything I've learned in 21 years of using Internet forums, it's that life is meaningless and nothing we say or do here will matter in the grand scheme of things.

Oh, okay I misunderstood you. Yeah, I mean I watched a few videos on Funimation when I first started watching anime and their video quality wasn't the best. Also Viz forces you to sit through ads (a 2 minute ad before the video and another 30 second ad in between) or disables the video until you disable your adblock.

Edit: Great, now all the voice actors I follow on Twitter are talking about piracy and how it's wrong. Looks like I"m going to have to stop using Twitter.

She's from the US. She'll never know what it's like to live the "Sorry, due to licensing limitations, videos are unavailable in your region." life.

Wouldn't even be able to watch Gintama...
1 hour = 10,000 yen.
2 hours = 20,000 yen.
3 hours = 3 loaves of French bread.
4 hours = 4 loaves of French bread.

Not only that, she works in the industry so she doesn't even have to pay for any of it, she gets free access to all of it.

If I were to follow this and only watch the anime licensed in my country, I wouldn't really be able to watch anything else than Ghibli movies. Crunchyroll is available, but that's the only legal streaming service that offers many anime, that I can get where I live. Too bad that Crunchyroll doesn't have the majority of anime I want to watch. I will continue to watch anime however I want until the legal sites offer a better solution than they currently do.

Yeah, and KA still offers more. CR, Funimation, Netflix, and especially Amazon, are all ass. Why should I pay for something that's worse than free alternative?

KA is ass too btw. the video quality is pure garbage. they offer more stuff because it's stealing from fansub sites is easier than licensing shows in a legal manner.

Caitlin Glass is right but I do not want to wait for all the anime I watch and all the manga I read to be licensed in Brazil because in most cases it will not happen because there is no commercial concern from the industry. Of course I prefer legit anime/manga because paying the man is the right thing to do and I pay to own the quality of a legit product but things are not always fair in life, is not it?

I hope in the future when they sell licensed titles we can choose to give the money to the Japanese anime studio instead of the American cancer dub corporations.

I have nothing more to say to someone who makes statements in response to one line of the post which would be not just answered but shown to be incredulously stupid by reading the following line of the same post that is being quoted.

Your every post is filled with shoving words in my mouth that I not only did not say but which I specifically stated that I was not saying and where my entire point was a repudiation of the very argument you are claiming that I am making.
All talk and no examples of said behavior are provided. This means nothing to me.
This entire thread is bordering on libel, anyway, given that it all started by you putting words into the mouth of Caitlin Grass which you haven't provided any evidence that she ever actually said.
What are you even on about? I provided the link to the twitter thread where she claimed all of those things and the pictures of her Facebook posts can be found in the OP.

You're being conpletely stupid on this matter. He provided lots of examples while you just circled around a single silly argument, rules are bad. If you think s rule is bad, the proper way to act is trying to change the rule, not ignoring it. You might have to pay for it someday. In socialist countries like Germany, Denmark,... piracy is prosecuted and the fines are hefty.

She can say whatever she wants about pirating anime I don't care. I watch using kissanime or 9anime. I went out and bought the Discs to anime I want to add to my RL collection after watching them. I've used Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll and buy manga and merchandise. So again she can say what she wants to, but even though I use sites like 9anime I still fund the industry when I can. I could spend more on anime if the US economy would fix itself, but I doubt ill ever see that in the next 10 years.

No. It comes after Ä, which comes after Å, which comes after Z and then it's the exact same order as in the English alphabet

In a perfect world she's absolutely right, but things are never so black and white.

Like people said, because of me starting with piracy I am now supporting the industry and will continue to do so not out of entitlement because piracy made anime widely available for me in the first place. The world is more complex than good or bad, Miss Glass.

I bothered enough to check in what series Caitlin Glass has dubbed, never heard of her. Well look at that only one of them has been licensed here and it's unavailable as it has been like over ten years DVDs were released here, they didn't even include English dub. Oh gee Sorry Caitlin I can't support your work bc can't buy those cartoons, but please do notify me when they release animus from the 60's with out regional locks.

Lmao son I have a CR account, but since I live in a shithole, I have like 2% of what people in the US have. Am I not allowed to enjoy my hobby because these fucks don't care about international fans? Get the Hell out of here.

And I'm gonna be petty and say that English dubs are the worst thing to happen to anime alongside moe, ecchi and harem.

The A-list is part of a larger guide called The Hot List that has become an industry-standard guide in Hollywood. James Ulmer has also developed a Hot List of directors.[1] The Ulmer scale categorizes the lists into A+, A, B+, B, C, and D listings.

Less popular persons and current teen idols are referred to as "B-list" – and the ones with lesser fame "C-list". Entertainment Weekly interpreted C-list celebrity as "that guy (or sometimes that girl), the easy-to-remember but hard-to-name character actor".

well, i don't find these conversations interesting to be honest. it's the same shit over and over again. people claim that they don't give a damn about dubbing actors and companies but they get triggered if said companies changed a line or made some controversial statements.

Oh, I was talking about the piracy threads, not dubbing or subbing. But yeah I mean I don't understand why people watch something willingly then get mad about the dubbed. Someone said the dub of DBZ sucked on episode 189. After watching 1-188 dubbed then complained. It just seems like a complete waste of time. But hey, people like to complain. They just like to be unhappy about something. I don't know. I usually only watch dubs when I don't feel like reading.

And in my honest opinion, if people are watching something illegally when they should be paying for it, complaining when it doesn't work or doesn't go their way or it's 'shitty' just makes people sound even more entitled.

Also to be honest, I don't think Caitlin or any other English VA or any dubbed actors really give a shit, probably only doing this PSA to please her bosses. I doubt the Japanese companies even care all that much about what people outside of Japan are doing.

yeah fuck right off, its showing support to these unlicensed properties that actually motivate companies to eventually pick them up.

And I'm gonna be petty and say that English dubs are the worst thing to happen to anime alongside moe, ecchi and harem.

Except without dubs, anime wouldn't have blown up as it has.

You sissies couldn't last a second in my time. Back in my day, if you wanted to get anime, you had to go to your local movie store and pay 35 up to 45 dollars a tape. It was either take it or leave it.

well, i don't find these conversations interesting to be honest. it's the same shit over and over again. people claim that they don't give a damn about dubbing actors and companies but they get triggered if said companies changed a line or made some controversial statements.

I usually only watch dubs when I don't feel like reading.

yeah some piracy threads are interesting, i agree with you on this point.

because weebs have too much time on their hands.

"And in my honest opinion, if people are watching something illegally when they should be paying for it, complaining when it doesn't work or doesn't go their way or it's 'shitty' just makes people sound even more entitled."
THIS.

Haha, actually our time was much easier to live in. The 90's were paradise compared to today.
People have a harder time lasting in this time and caring about anything they do get on their plate to consume.

They were showing Pokemon and Sailor Moon on TV for free in the 90s. Didn't have to go to no Hollywood Video or Blockbuster to get a tape.

Also, Hollywood Video and Blockbuster XD

Shit, I'd rather be in back in the 90s. The 90s were boss.

what is said: pirating hurts the industry

what is really meant: pirating hurt Kadokawa and other anime companies CEO's bottomline. let's be honest: animators has always been paid slave wages and will continue to receive slave wages regardless of how much people buy a given product. why would anime companies pay liveable wages to animators when they don't have to? anime directors aren't all that much better either and can get kicked out for any reason, despite contributing immensely to an anime's success - or even being the reason a given anime is successful. but hey, pirating does hurt the industry. the money spent on the blurays and dvds help keep the slave animators employed.
