Personally, Koe no Katachi. Critically, Kimi no Na Wa. Yeah, both great movies, but the general consensus is that Kimi no Na Wa was better due to its mass appeal, just just nationally but internationally, while Koe no Katachi is admittedly hard to watch in some parts due to its realist depictions of life. But me, I'd say Koe no Katachi was a masterpiece. Kimi no Na Wa? Entertaining as hell. Both great movies, but both with differing opinions.

Neon Genesis Evangelion for both.

Also, it's pathetic how many people have repeated the same joke about Pingu... called it...
It's becoming another Cory In The House, a meme that wasn't funny and died the moment it was born but obnoxious kiddies will still keep using.

Personally, Evangelion. The concepts fit very well and the show helped me out of a dark time by giving me character that were painfully relatable.

As for critically my favorite work? Maybe Made in Abyss.

But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr08/page_build.cfm?content=analyz_media&ch=30

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

critically: full metal alchemist brotherhood

i say brotherhood is because you could show it to pretty much anyone and they'll probably get something out of it. animation still holds up the english dub is actually decent. 100%
i'm also somebody who likes"artsy" anime so its difficult for me to recommend things because most my friends have different interests than me but if theres something i can always bond over with others its fma.

Hmm... as it happens the vast majority of my top favorites are critically acclaimed, even the less popular titles. I think my personal favorite, Gankutsuou, is one of the best anime there ever is. It gets so close to perfection it's scary, but it's not really as critically acclaimed on this site specifically. Legend of Galactic Heroes, Natsume Yuujinchou, Monster, and Mob Psycho 100 are other favorites that are highly critically acclaimed on MAL or otherwise.

Looking at my current top 10, maybe Trigun? Even the best of fans acknowledge that Trigun is flawed, especially the ending. Also Daily Lives of High School Boys is well loved, but not exactly critically acclaimed. Kind of hard for pure comedies in general to reach critical acclaim. Mononoke is another one that I admit is flawed but wins on aesthetics alone.

What you said didn't make much sense tbh.
You admitted Koe no Katachi being better but that Kimi no na Wa was more popular.
By that logic, Koe no Katachi should be the critically better one (I agree with that actually). Mass Appeal has nothing to do with quality.
OT,
Favorite : Either Gintama or Hunter X Hunter 2011 i'd say.
Critically Best : Hard to say, but maybe FMAB

Ah, it's your usual asinine distinction between what's "really good but don't like it as much" and "I love it but it's not well done".

Why do people who think like that still exist?

Because when you actually start analyzing anime you might find some flaws in the writing despite how entertaining it was. That doesn't mean the anime that are actually well made are boring either, you just notice less flaws in them. The ones that manage to be entertaining while being constructed well are usually the ones that become classics.

As a critic i would choose something that can be well received by a larger audience.
Stuff like ghibli films, your name, cowboy bebop. Otherwise i would say shinsekai yori or steins gate.

they are literally the same thing

if your favorite anime isn't the one that you think is critically the best then you're dumb.
Nah..there's a difference between actually enjoying an anime and other people saying an anime is "good "

Other people may think an anime is "bad" but if you pressed play and enjoyed it that's all the matters at the end of the day.
Better having fun than wasting your life span being pretentious imo

12 Kingdoms - remains uniquely interesting after years, dramatic and with a rather immersive fantasy world. Strong character dev.

Dennou Coil - brilliant and comedic, so solid that it dared to use unpleasant character arts, a treasure box of many areas of appreciation

and of course My Neighbour Totoro - secret childhood friends, natural scenes with fantasy, fantastic sound tracks for kids

Noragami, Noragami, Noragami, Noragami-Nora-

I know a lot of people wouldn't agree with me on this, but to me, it is the best written series with the best characters and the manga is honestly perfection ( a lot better than the anime.)
Help the industry and buy Blu-rays and DVD's.
Noragami is the best anime ever.
