Like does anyone else actually like that kind of art style I'm not saying it's bad, but did people back then prefer this type of art style instead of todays more realistic looking one or nah.

DxD and Code Geass have the same art style now? They didn't when I watched them.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.

This is the ideal anime body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like:

Well, Code Geass did put me off for a whole year because I couldn't digest the art style but then when I did see it, I kinda got used to it after a few episodes and now I would like the same thing for season three (hopefully).

Highschool DxD was just a no for me!!

Every experienced artist has his/her own art style. Especially if it's a mangaka who has to draw the same characters over and over again for many volumes.
It's not very useful to discuss "today's art style", because many mangaka today are the same people who were mangaka 10 years ago, and they have roughly the same art style. For example, UQ Holder is not that different from the work that made its author famous, Love Hina.
It's even less useful to discuss "today's art style" when stylized anime like Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou exists alongside whatever show you called "realistic" in art style.

Code Geass' character design is the best part of the show. It's CLAMP anyway

I don't mind the art style in either of those shows. I also don't get the comparison, as I don't think they look very similar to each other. The body types are certainly different.

Clamp effect. Having weirdly drawn neck or body didnt prevent me from watching it. I've seen people disliking cg because of their neck. Yes they exist.

Dxd is not that bad.

The Code Geass art style is one of many things that I don't like about the anime.

Because the character designs in code Gayass are a work of art.

If you think DxD's proportions are ugly, the female MC from Occultic Nine and the girls of Eiken are a thousand times uglier.

Does character design really matter?

If every anime looked the same, I probably wouldn't have watched the amount of that I haved

Back when I watched Code Geass, like 10 years ago the art style was fine. Now looking back at it, it does look weird but you get used to it quickly.

Double-Takes, Spits out drink

Wait, DxD and Code Geass have the same design style!?

Code Geass had the characters designed by good ole CLAMP, who specialize in out-of-proportion bodies (Sometimes specializing too well, see XXXHolic). DxD's Character designer is Junji Gotou, and while sure, CG and DxD both like to emphasize some of the sexual traits of the characters, it's ridiculous to say that they look the same.

And honestly, I prefer the style between 2005 and the early 2010's over the 'realistic' heavily-filtered stuff that we get now. But even then, there was a lot of variation in that style (so much that putting a start and end date is difficult), as there is alot of variation in today's works.

For ages I just couldn't go beyond Code Geass's episode 1 precisely for the artstyle, Lelouch's loooong arms and legs and his narrow waist particularly made my eyes bleed, I still don't know how a character drawn as awful as him can become #1 favorite char, and only recently I've been able to overcome that visual barrier, and honestly after a while you just get used to.
