The year is not even finished yet. The only thing certain in this world is that winter came, KonoSuba S2 was so disappointing humor-wise, Chiaki and Kana is this year's best OTP, best gril goes to that grilled gril in Castlevania, and that Koe no Katachi won't win an Oscar. And Noraneko has the GOAT episode. Oh, and that Quanzhi Gaoshou is diet SAO for people who are too scared of the stigma surrounding SAO. And it even managed to be more abysmal.

Not including new seasons (AoT and BnHA) I would have to say Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon and Made in Abyss have stood out from the crowd be a WIDE margin. Despite the many differences between the shows, there is one thing that they both share that made them better than all of the other shows this year: they were unique, or more accurately, refreshing.

So many shows this year have had the same concept of ones before them with one or two things changed, if that(no fault there, its 2017 and the concept of storytelling has been around since cavemen). Sometimes this works and produces a 8 or a 9 but to get a 10, you truly have to add something to the industry. Both Kobayashi's Dragon Maid and Made in Abyss provided viewers with a much needed breath of fresh air.

I highly suggest both shows even if you are not a fan of their genre. These are the shows that break the need to already love their genre to be able to love the show.

Aho Girl, probably. I find it actually hilarious and not just a "heh, that was kind of funny sometimes" like I get with most comedy anime I watch. Plus it's got Iinchou. I would fuck Iinchou's brains out if given the opportunity.

Is hero academia worth watching? I've heard it's good but I'm not too sure.

Short answer. Yes. But it mainly depends on your preferences and what you're looking for

On the outside before looking in, it's a generic shounen hero show. If you're not one to care about anything that sounds generic and you care more about the execution, then I suggest watching this show because I feel it's executed well. If you also love underdog stories, you'll love this show.

The show starts off a bit slow at first for about 4 episodes but you'll notice that it starts taking off and improving from there.

If you do not mind/can withstand the "wimpy" sounding being, pushed over main characters (for a short period of about 6-7 episodes until his first training battle) and the overly aggressive/angry rival character, then you'll at least find this show as a positive experience.

This show does well on serious fight scenes and setting up for it (animation, soundtrack, creating tension, showing various strategies utilized with limitations) and the comedy, to me, is at least decent. I haven't found an unlikeable character yet since the overly aggressive Bakugou grew on me and Deku started being less of a pushover.

Owarimonogatari 2 and Shouwa Genroko Rakugo Shinyu 2 but if we're not counting sequels it would be March Comes In Like a Lion, Made in Abyss, Welcome to the Ballroom, Tsuki ga Kirei, and Scum's Wish. Fall 2017 seems really interesting though

So far, it looks like "Hitorijime my Hero" is the best thing from this year, with "Dream Festival! R" coming in at close second.

Now, that being said, I haven't watched "Mahoujin Guruguru" yet, because I want to watch the original first.
