Another reminisence episode...

This one brings relationship drama and it didn't look pretty. Even the theme of suicide is bought into this show. I feel like human drama really can take the cake when it's at its worst. Cheating in a relationship never ends up well.

I love this series but don't understand why they would repeat an episode we have already seen? Just once I would like to see an episode that shows what happened to the person once they crossed over into hell.

I should just go and watch the remaining episodes right now, set this as completed, give it a 2/10 and be done with this.

This was also a season 1 episode so I guess next 2 will be from season 2 and the last 2 from season 3.

Nice to see these episodes in good quality since a good quality version of seasons 1 and 2 are hard to find. This is one of my favorites of the whole series. I just wish there was a little more thought put into doing another season of this series. Seems like they did it to cash in on the property and not much else.
If you want to hear more of my opinions, my husband and I discuss anime bi-weekly on the Weeb and Tonic podcast, hosted on youtube. I wouldn't consider this advertising, since we don't get paid for it, but we're always looking to discuss further than I can on the forums, so feel free to join us!

Another rerun, not bad.
That bitch ruined their life for such a lame reason, that woman wouldn't have told anyone about what she saw.
Lol, I don't know if hell is really a bad place for her.

I really can't wrap my head around this.
This season is 8 years after the 3rd season.
It breaks the standard 26 episode length by having a measly 12 episode length.
Somehow, half of that is filler "reminiscence" episodes.
(Not to mention none of those reminiscence episodes focus on the character development or crucial episodes)

Yet, this anime is an original anime, so it doesn't make sense to make filler when you aren't going off of a manga.
This season is confusing (not in terms of plot, but in terms of why it is what it is) and I hope Studio Deen/Aniplex really impress with the 5th season, if it even gets one.

You'd think that the fans of this series would be biased towards it and rate it higher, especially as the number of voters decreases with each season, but it appears this is the lowest rated season out of them all anyways.

Granted, none of this is to stop you from enjoying this season, go right ahead.
It's just me venting my frustrations with a series I didn't feel exceedingly positive or negative towards suddenly veering towards the negative side.

I am thinking I am wasting my time. On July I rewatched first season and I was waiting to see new episodes not again a old one.

Maybe next week we have something new.

Agree.

I have all 3 seasons in great quality. I know all these episodes. I can't understand WHY they are "season 4"???

+ Michiru's story is not something original too. Just mix of Ai and Yuzuki. This Yoi no togi is pure trash.

Funny how I watched the first season 3 years ago and I still remember this episode. Here you go Ladies and Gentlemen who have not watched Jigoku Shoujo season 1 yet! The power of the cuck!

I was hoping that they'll at least change or edit some parts of the original episode, but I guess they have really run out of budget :/.

Even if there are better episodes to showcase here, it still was fun to watch. It is so clear how much Jigoku Shoujo changed from first seasons until now. The pacing, visual direction in this episode were really something that was not seen in newest season. I watched all three seasons several months ago, and i already miss the amazing Ai's "getting ready for job" scene, how she rides the carriage, i miss grandma's remarks (they never revealed who she/it was, did they?), and that calm atmosphere that dwells in Ai's place. Even if these episodes had a lot of elements that were repeated from episode to episode at that time, that never felt meaningless and boring.

You can debate the quality of the newest season, but the team that returned to work either lost its touch or just don't care about JS anymore, at least in my eyes. It felt like a collection of ideas that were rejected during the production of third season, and the main story was also very poor. I can't recognize this as a work of team that brought us a very strong second season.

I was grateful to Deen for bringing Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinju to us and doing a magnificent job animating it. But this season of JS is not how you treat fans of your older franchises. If you can't do it properly, DON'T DO IT.

The one with an "evil" family? I really doubt that. You can even compare it with this week's rerun of episode 6 from the first season. Sure, the antagonist is pitch-black here, but it never felt so over exaggerated and the story makes much more sense that the events in 3rd episode of Yoi no Togi. That episode was a mess, its pacing was too fast, its ending was nonsensical, the characters were completely unbelievable. Even if the episode was entertaining it doesn't make much sense when you think deeper about it. Sure, first season was not the best that Jigoku Shoujo could offer, but it still at times surpasses the fourth season completely.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that they're stupid, but the recap episodes were known so we shouldn't be surprised by it.

The first six were new and the remaining episodes are recap from the previous three seasons. Perhaps after its done they're announcing the final season, or at least another one, of the series.

Well it sure doesn't feel as good as the first time I watched it. Or maybe I already thought she was being a bit foolish. Now I feel like everything is so exaggerated.

Ugh I remember watching this episode from the first season. My first reaction was "this is a good one, but it will be so so painful"
Nothing bad would have happened if that woman had sex with her curtains closed. Like, who has sex while watching out from the window?
This anime knows how to make me mad, lol.

Also, I don't understand the users here that hate this season just because it uses 6 previously aired episodes. You knew that the fourth season has 6 new eps and 6 reminiscence eps, right?
So why are you complaining?

Wonder if the Japanese are that docile to the point they let themselves getting pushed around by bullies. I mean, the way the victim acted didn't make sense. The cheater should be more afraid than the witness for fear of exposure. Yet the witness was the one getting bullied wtf.

I know I would retaliate and won't put up with that bitch's shit. She's the one who cheated.

While I dropped s1, completely don't recall last 2 recaps (s1 ep3 & 6). Ya it's cleaned up for hd, but still blurry & worse art (11 years deen improved a bit), tho ep7 non-mc faces are more refined & interesting than some of the new eps.
This ep feels terrible, very slow & that paranoia, the 'consistent' ridiculousness. So far from making me retry s1 at all.

Goddamit. I shouldve read up on the 6 recap eps, so I wouldn't be this disappointed. I loved the first 6 eps :( Up until new chick became Hell Girl, cuz fk that.

Ai-chan or go home.

I wish they continued that. This recap shit is really disappointing. If it was budget reasons, then they shouldn't have done it to begin with.

Sigh.

I don't even know what to rate this anymore.

Why not complain? Even if we did know they were recapping earlier episodes, it's still stupid. When I read they were doing reminisce episodes, I assumed theyd repeat the scenarios from previous except put Michiru in Ai's place which would have bothered me anyway but at least it sort of would have been something new mixed with something old bringing on the nostalgia factor from the early seasons. but nope, its just the same thing - not redraw, no new voice actors or fixing the bad animation. What even was the point of this? If someone wanted to watch season 1 of Hell Girl, they could very well just go back and do it. Even newbies who didn't watch season 1. I feel like they just put in these episodes because they ran out of budget and had to fill the 12 episode run time slot anyway. Shouldn't have made a season 4 to begin with if they weren't going to bring anything new to the table for fans.

Boring...! I agree that Yoi No Togi is trash. May it be it's mentioned that there are only 6 new episodes, still, the other reminiscence episodes are boring! Can't beat that. Yes, repeating it may sound lovely for Jigoku Shoujo lovers. But still, of course one would prefer something new right? Why waste time watching same ep if I can turn back to Jigoku Shoujo 1 and search for the episodes I want? SO STUPID! I want something new something that develop to its full content and storyline! Bored! 2/10
