I was thinking of the tripping scene from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time when I watched Your Name this morning. This doesn't matter, though.

In this day and age it's not surprising to see something "rip-off" something else, it's hard to make something "original" now of days tbh but people still thought Your Name was brilliant enough to call it a "masterpiece", in my case it's pretty good

the maker it self said it isn't.. read your damn source again...

Others accuse the uploader of extreme nitpicking, especially with the second video. In fact, Kōnosuke Uda, the director of Nijiiro Hotaru, responded to the video with a tweet:

“When I saw Your Name in the theater, I was like ‘Wait, is that…?’ But that’s just my personal opinion. If a director makes sufficient changes, then that’s original. It isn’t something you can just call a rip-off and have that be the end of the discussion.”

sorry if japan is not US where everyone sued for every damn thing...

It was meh tbh, at this point no one will really care, he's not going to get sued and it could probably pass off as coincidences than actually stealing other people's content.

Meh, I honestly don't care. Nothing is original. The Lion King apparently accidentally copied Kimba the White Lion through it's story and characters. Those sequences don't even look that original. The motorcycle skid from Akira was reused in a lot of movies. Copyright only gets in the way of creativity.

Better sue every movie studio out there then, since every movie copies a previous movie and takes inspiration from older movies. Do people even think for a second before posting on this site? Good grief.

I'd rather if they wouldn't. US is way too trigger-happy with people suing others for the most trivial and ridiculous things.

According to this logic,
Inception should be sued for being inspired by Paprika,
The Lion king should be sued for being similar to Kimba the white Lion,
The Smartphone anime should be sued for Having the same kind of start that Konosuba has.

Appearantly being inspired by shows and being a bit Similar to them is suddenly bad.

Then Roman Empire should sue the whole world for using parts of its laws, its calendar, words etc. Oh, wait, it's called "adopting", so deal with it, people always adopt things which affected or inspired them in any way.

This is honestly ridiculous on two levels.

First, if you've been to Japan you'd realize that there are thousands of streets/views/places that could give the same inspiration to different creators. The similar scenes shown are extraordinarily commonplace--the one where people are putting up banners for a festival is particularly hilarious because how else is that kind of scene supposed to look--and would give rise to plagiarism charges only to the likes of 911 conspiracists.

Second, on a more general level, it's increasingly impossible for creators to create something that hasn't already been done before. A wealthy guy who falls in love with a poor girl? Plagiarism. A girl tripping and rolling down the hill? Plagiarism. What the definition of plagiarism entails in the field of entertainment at least should only cover same content for the same purpose used in the same way. If we're to call plagiarism on similarity of content alone, we would have no new creations beyond a certain point.

He's not getting sued. Not even in the U.S. is this a plausible case.

Copy is the sincerest form of flattery.

'Akira' has some scenes copied from 'Koyaanisqatsi' and it reduces nothing from Katsuhiro Otomo's masterpiece.

I hate to break it to you, but nothing is exactly "original" these days. They all get inspiration from somewhere.

So I wrote a review about how Your Name is using references from A Girl Who Leapt Through Time as a close inspiration.

It also follows a similar formula to other time travel anime that have been popular.
We all know Stein;s Gate and Re:Zero are still popular for the concept.
