It will be revealed on this year's combined 36th and 37th issue of Shueisha's Young Jump magazine to be released on Thursday that Satoru Noda's award-winning manga Golden Kamuy will receive a TV anime adaptation. More information about the anime will be announced at a later date.

Synopsis
In Hokkaido, the far northern lands of Japan, Sugimoto survived the Russo-Japanese war of the Meiji era. Nicknamed "Invincible Sugimoto" during the war, he now seeks the riches promised by the gold rush in hopes of saving the widowed wife of his now deceased comrade from the war. During his hunt for gold, he finds hints of a hidden stash of gold by corrupt criminals. Partnering with an Ainu girl that saves his life from the harsh climates of the north, they venture into a survival adventure in a race against the criminals that seek the hidden stash. The manga began its serialization on Young Jump in 2014. Shueisha has released ten compiled manga volumes so far, with the 11th volume to ship on August 18, 2017. The manga was also reported to have released more than 3.2 million copies so far.

The series also received an award for this manga is 2016 as well as being nominated for Best General Manga at the 40th annual Kodansha Manga Awards and the 20th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2016.

VIZ Media has been publishing the series in English under the VIZ Signature imprint since June 20.

Personally, I'm very excited about this. Been reading it since its release and it has over 100+ chapters to work with which can easily be adapted into a 2 cour.

The studio? I'm hoping they get a good one for this.

I would've been happy if I didn't acknowledge the fact that nearly every YJ anime has failed miserably...

Most of YJ series that get anime adaptation are mainstream titles in the first place and not much care about Disc sales, similar situation as WSJ, WSM.

So what? If not, Golden Kamui is one of the most popular series in YJ, so if they're going to animate this series like they did for TG or Kingdom, this is destined to fail. Furthermore, Golden Kamui is pretty explicit, and I can practically smell the disgusting censorship from a mile away, ready to fuck up the series.

Sounds interesting, I'll be sure to check it out.

@umashikaneko I don't think he means failure in terms of disc sales, I think he means failure as in a bad adaptation.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

Considering its sales, an anime adaptation isn't surprising. I was actually planning on starting the manga this week. Well, I'll still start it though :P

Then it may not be worth watching if the violence and any nudity is heavily censored especially if AT-X isn't airing it.

If the studio does fuck it up, just read the manga. Manga is lit AF. One of the best in the current YJ manga.

Dammit! I was about to read that manga soon this month but anime adaptation has already appeared! Ok its pleasure to see award-winning manga/novel to see in animated form, but I have a feeling that a bad studio will likely to produce this...

Oh man, this has every bit of potential to be an anime of its season with its concept and character design. Guess it's all going to fall down to the roulette of studio choice, but I'll be keeping my eyes close on this one!

Sugimoto - Hosoya Yoshimasa

Tsurumi - Ootsuka Akio
Ogata - Sakurai Takahiro
Tanigaki - Seki Tomokazu
Professor Penis - Inada Tetsu
Asirpa - some new voice actress, maybe?
Studio - Madhouse/Bones.
But it's would be hard to adapt without censorship. And i'm ready to some people to call it Shokugeki no Kamuy.

I started reading the manga yesterday, and it's really interesting: not only is there loads of action but there's a lot of info on the Ainu lifestyle. Love it when it's set in Japan's past. Hope the anime does just as well as the manga. But I've got a lot to catch up: I've only read 21 chapters...

Holy shit! Best news for a while!
Golden Kamuy is one of the best historical adventure titles out there! Adventure, comedy, action, and gore,... everything just fit so well.
Can't wait for more information about it!

The setting for this IP is just amazing to me. Being a huge history fan I really appreciate the fact the setting is sometime after the Russo-Japanese War. It uses a lot of old world history while exploring the Ainu culture. Bolt action rifles, military uniforms, its essentially feels like a Japanese western in the snow.
