"In a medium with a romance genre saturated with high school settings, harems, trite characters, vapid conclusions and hackneyed narratives that all do their best to glorify the pursuit of love, 5CM/s offers a unique perspective that will surely ferment any content standard one would come to expect from the romance genre. The title doesn’t insult your intelligence with nonsensical and unfeasible events, it doesn’t insult your suspension of disbelief with outlandish female leads who blush and shy away at the slightest inclination of a compliment… 5CM/s is real. It is a vignette of the medium in its rarest, truest form of art; it’s awe-inspiringly beautiful and exists to express a passionate narrative. It is my favourite anime film, and while it may not appeal to everyone, I will be damned if I don’t express why I think it appealed to me."
