Discovery Channel hype! More of Lizardmen documentary please. I smiled like an idiot cause that was pretty awesome.

The elf was great, loved the ending shots of her, very sincere as always making me teary-eyed.

The formula just works like a charm, watching this weekly is the greatest experience for this type of anime, i feel like a lot of the charm gets lost when binging.

This is absolutely the best show of the season and i have it at 9/10 at this point.

100% agree. Only thing to add is that the rabbit was lol.

Where exactly was the fan service? Are you into lizardmen?

I think ubic might be turned on by breastfeeding.

Am I supposed to be attracted to lizardmen after watching the intro scene? Cause I'm totally into lizardmen now.
Gonna go watch Space Pirate Sara again..

Good epsiode.

Against my expectations this show manages to stay fresh with it's concept. The different approaches each time are well done. This time we got a lizard man who brings food home and and an ambitious elf.
One Piece episode 914 & 915 were a mistake.

I find it rather cool that the lizardfolk and sylvan elves stick mostly to the old paper and pencil RPG canon. I'm not sure who created the first game version, possibly Gary Gygax back in the mid-70's. I didn't know that the sylvan elves are vegan, but I do recall that green was a popular color, inhabit forests, and prefer bows.

It looks like adorable elf girl will be joining the restaurant staff shortly.

And you see, that's why I made that comment, I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. Breastfeeding isn't fan service and shouldn't be looked at sexually but having this argument on a forum like this is probably not gonna go anywhere -.-

lol I was so confused as to why she had a bow but healed the deer til I found out she was vegan (leading to the realization that it was for self defense)

I'm vegan myself so it was reallllllly nice to have some vegfood porn, although now I'm cooking tofu for myself so maaybe it wasn't such a great thing jajajaj

I have no desire to debate about the ethics surrounding dairy, but I figured I'd clarify why that is: Cows/goats/ect only produce milk when they need to nurse their children so to get their milk you have to breed them and take away their baby without their consent (obviously since they don't speak English) while human mothers make the choice to feed their child breast milk so there's no reason to consider it unethical.

Hello, fellow vegan. The breast milk comment was hilarious. And people think vegans are weird... 😑

The first lizard part was kind a boring, but the second part was good at the food. The story of the elves was very poor I think 🤔

Lol thought the lizard half of the episode was kind of strange. Watching him slowly bathe and dry himself wasn't exactly what I was expecting. Overall it was still an enjoyable episode though- it was nice to see the chef get a bit of a challenge to make vegan food.

Vegan elf story was quite bad. No meat, fish, milk or eggs in human cuisine? That's like one third of human cuisine, are you kidding? Or in that world there is some kind of death penalty for not eating ingredients of animal origin in every dish? OMFG.

To be fair, pepsin (an enzyme critical in the processing of proteins) stops being produced by the stomach if you go vegetarian for a long period of time, it's why people going back to meat have to ease into it with small portions (otherwise they suffer severe stomach and intestinal discomfort); if elves don't produce that enzyme at all, then naturally they wouldn't be able to consume most human cuisines, and given it's a fantasy world they wouldn't even know why humans are able to eat things that are literally inedible to elves.

That being said, there's the scene where the elf was clearly breastfed as a baby, so either elf breast milk doesn't have protein or elves do produce pepsin in their stomachs as infants, but lose that ability as they grow older; the latter is completely believable, because a similar phenomenon happens in the real world with Chinese people: a majority (around 90% of adults) have some degree of lactose malabsorption (or outright intolerance) because our ability to produce lactase (the enzyme required to break down the lactose in milk) decreases as we grow older (only around 30% of infants are lactase deficient). If this were a fantasy world, Chinese people would probably look at Europeans drinking milk the same way this elf looks at humans eating meat (setting aside the fact that China imports a massive amount of milk because we've developed a taste for it despite the whole enzyme deficiency thing, we're weird that way).

tl;dr: there might actually be a biological reason why she's a vegan. Refusing to eat most human dishes shouldn't be that weird for, y'know, someone who isn't human.

Since I work in the industry, We chefs have to constantly cater to the needs of guests that have a certain type of dietary restriction. This episode really hits home because I deal with these types of customers on a semi-daily basis (in regards to the second half of the episode). Brilliant and fun episode, still gives me a reason to continue cooking as well as enjoying the profession.

Oh cool, my Lizard Man documentary came with a free anime and a omurice. Such wonderful, fascinating... and pretty smokin creatures... Other half was fine but nothing to write home about, enjoyed the other characters more.

I imagine that's true. If you only had to reproduce the items on the menu en masse, it would be a totally boring job. If I were a chef or cook, I would welcome the challenge of diners with particular needs as much for myself as for my customers.

The thing that got to me more about the Lizardman story was how he only brought back three omurice for an entire town full of huge lizardfolk when he himself ate two full orders.

So couldn't they appoint another hero or two and have a few lizards go in and bring back a feast? It sure look like they have enough gold and silver to pay for it. XD

Well, another ok episode for me. I still find most of the characters kinda dull... To be honest, I'm more interested in knowing about what is aletta doing the rest of the week while she is not at the restaurant... I wonder if she could found a job in her world, a place to stay during nights or if she will meet the dragon lady in some near future... but oh well.

The first half was kinda weird because of that narration perspective they chose and for that unexpected lizardmen fanservice, why would I be interested in watching a huge lizard taking a bath?... The rest wast just meh (except for the food and how well it was animated).

And the second part was slightly better but still nothing memorable. Just a cute elf girl eating tofu and forgetting to take some food for her father.

P.S.: Is it just me or the girls in this show are all way to cute? I find their designs really nice.

Please tell me this is some sort of weird prolong character introduction before they, as proper dungeons&dragons story, form a party in pub(nekoyama restorant in this case) before going on epic adventure to save the world. Or will this anime really be only food porn all the way?

PS: To be honest I had to turn it off in half of this episode.
PSS: Is it just me or that lizardman is reall douchebag, like he alone get two full omellets and then bring three for whole rest of tribe where I see 30 probably more "people"

Wasn't really a good episode imo (especially the Lizardman part kinds of bores me). But It's fine nonetheless and turns my mood up when 2nd part shows up...

And funny I actually ate some tofu for dinner before I saw that Tofu Steak scene.

A self important elf who happens to be a stereotypical vegan is somehow classic Hikasa Yoko. I think Faldania uses a bow and arrow only for self defense. That might be an odd choice for a self-defense weapon, but I think it's because she values precision over anything else, or because a sword is too unrefined for her taste.

I liked a lot how the lizardman speak fluidly while talking with his relatives, but have a more rough speaking when he was talking with Aletta and the chief. It may look as an small detail, but that indicates lizardman doesn't have exactly the same language as the humans, and that is an interesting thing, since adds more details to the other world.

Also, I didn't expected elfs to be vegans xD

As to why the lizardmen speak so when they are at home, is, because, they might speak a different language compared to most other people, as the first lizardman learned how to order omelette rice, Gerupa, he spoke in a rough tone.

So when whoever comes back, we are getting a translation of what they are speaking.

As for the elf, from the looks of it, Fardania is a Wood elf adn although it is not mentioned in the RPG, one would think that maybe, wood elves would probably go towards a vegan lifestyle, as they tend to live in nature.

With a lot of comments about the "lizard documentary," I think that it was because it wouldn't seem right if the lizard-man would be the one who will narrate the commentary (considering that not only would it be out of character, it will also kind of come to a plot hole as to how that race have knowledge about the process and ingredients). Though with his first appearance I thought he was a turtle, which explains his delayed reactions (ep 1)

Also, I'd just like to drop these lovely quotes:

Lizardmen and elves this episode. In this world delivery boy was looked down, while in lizardmen's world delivery is a job for a hero, strongest and smartest in combat and tactics. The reward is great for him, every lizardmen can only eats his order, while he can eat a lot there and enjoy restaurant's atmosphere. This is the first time I learned that Elves are good to nature, doesn't kill animals and only eat plants and whatever they can find inside the forest.I always think elves hunt for animals because they use arrows and bows. That girl find a new goal,to surpass the chef on cooking,I really doubt she can find a way to make a better dish than that tofu steak.Ingredients from forest are too limited compared from a town in a developed world. She must do a lot of research too, compared to the chef who had part time jobs at a cafe, and trained under his grandpa who own this restaurant,it will took a very long time if she ever create a better dish than that tofu steak.
Hi,please be patient,thank you.

The narration during the lizardmen's story made it feel like I was watching National Geographic.

That scene with the lizardman in the nude; stop trying to make me into a scaly.

The elf girl was cute. She sure doesn't like humans tho.

The ending was nice. Eating that food inspired her to make food that will surpass Nekoya's.

Good episode. This show feels a bit repetitive, but it's nice that we're learning more about the fantasy world and Nekoya's customers.

This might be the first anime that I drop, not because it's bad or that I don't like it. But because it makes me really hungry, I'll become obese by the time I get to the finale.

Edit: I ended up skimming around and finishing it lol, couldn't get myself to just drop it at the start.

The way the narrator describe the omurice made me so damn hungry and the tofu steak looks really great too. Damn it. I'm hungry.

I find it fascinating how the lizard people treat going to the restaurant a heroic event but they can order more than 3 big omurice with the money they have xD
