What is the difference between a club and a society as mentioned in this anime. I'm thinking it has to do with a society being an unofficial club

I don't really have in-depth knowledge about that, but from what I've seen in other anime, societies aren't subjected to the same strict rules that clubs are, and they don't need a minimum member count. On the other hand, they don't receive any funds or special benefits.
