They definitely showed some stuff that's only been very recently revealed in the manga. I mean they were cryptic enough about most of it but if you were a manga reader watching this episode you're probably flipping your shit seeing Ymir on the wall

Flipping your shit in a good or bad way?
I didn't mind that they included that in the anime already instead of waiting with it for season 3.
It made the ep very enjoyable for me.
I've read chapters 1-80 or more.

Not in a bad way. Just personally I was thinking wow that shit is stuff ive only very recently seen in the manga, and just in comparison to none of that important shit being told in the anime yet i just got excited haha

Kinda like when i saw the ED2 for season 1 and was gettin all hype seeing all the shifters before the anime only people really knew

How they are handling this is absolutely disgusting. Using one of the best epiphany of the manga to fill the void inbetween scenes.
How can you defend this?

holy shit im shook at this episode and i really cant anymore with the cliffhangers so i guess ill be reading the manga once this season is over
ALSO, ive developped a little twisted theory of my own on everything that we've been getting the last 2 episodes
i consider this theory pretty solid so anime only watchers who avoid spoilers (like me) stop reading now! (I dont know how to tag a spoiler lolol)
anyway, as an anime only watcher, im figuring that titans are mainly humans turned titans as a punishement or so, and the only way for them to turn back human is by eating another human.. which explains why all titans eat humans despite not needing any food to survive but its not that simple, the human eaten needs to be a titan shifter for that equation to work, i mean ymir did eat marcel who was RAB's friend and obviously was a titan shifter as well... and so i am guessing that marco is from RAB's little clan and he's a titan shufter and that he was eaten by eren which explains how jeager can transform back to his human form
manga readers please dont confirm this if its correct or not im just speculating and i rather avoid any type of spoilers
but of course all discussion is open around this theory

They showed surprisingly large amount of Ymir's past. A bit spoilery but I still really liked it.

Ok, so eating a human reverts a titan back to human form? So that's why titans target humans but leave others?

There was a lot of new information in this episode and it was almost overwhelming. Like, what's the coordinate and that whole Ymir's flashback seemed extremely important to the story. Very interesting stuff
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Eren fighting with his elbows killed me XD. Things are getting interesting and Ymir's backstory was tragic. That death flag at the end of the episode lol. I cannot believe that there are two episodes left though. I want more AOT!

eh, I liked this one... Ymir got more interesting now that she's a known titan, but still I can't seem to care for her or for christa more than just because of the plot.

What really got me interested is the new info on lore stuff.

1. When that dude kicked that woman from the wall (the woman who wasn't Ymir) a light is seen. Did all of them turn into titans? is it some kind of punishment? Can all humans ultimately become/transform into titans? From what's happening with the 'abandoned' town, it seems likely. They also seemed to hint at Eren being the one who ate Marco. Mmmmmh, I wonder...

2. What was that thing with Ymir and this kind of cult? They made it seem like she got picked at random to become some sort of puppet-king figure for this lot of folks, they weren't the 'oficial' sort of cult, though, that much is clear for what ended up happening to them lol.

Over all nice ep, but there was too much Ymir-Christa stuff, which I do not care even 1 bit about.

As an anime alone it is a good episode. But as a manga reader, im a bit shocked because ymir's past was revealed to early. Cant say much because of spoilers. but well... The episode itself is a spoiler. It revealed a huge chunk of information about the history and the marleyans and historia and well the plot.

So, after the last few lacklustre episodes, finally we get a good one. Not a whole lot happened in terms of present-day plot (but there was still some -- Ymir decided to throw in with Berthold and co and "rescued" Christa... I assume she wasn't really eaten and will be spat back out again later, sort of like what must have happened with Ymir herself). But there was some really interesting stuff in that flashback.

So, Ymir was an orphan girl living on the streets who got picked up by some cult people and made to claim that she has the "blood of the king", which people apparently worshipped for some reason. Then police or something busted the cult and they were taken to the walls and pushed off, which somehow resulted in her (and presumably the others) transforming into Titans.

It's unclear whether those were the walls of the same cities we've seen (what was the outermost wall? Maria or Rose, I can't remember) or if this was some other walled city we haven't seen yet. Also unclear whether transforming just happens to everyone who leaves the city or if the people who pushed them off did something to them first.

She wandered outside for 60 years so apparently they don't age while in Titan form. She transformed back after eating someone from Reinhard's group, so presumably that's why Titans keep trying to eat people, although it doesn't seem to do anything in most cases, they just throw them back up. So maybe for it to work they have to eat another shifter?

Heavily implied that Eren must have somehow eaten a shifter in the past in order to gain his ability, although nobody seems to know who. I don't think there was an opportunity for that during the time we saw him first transform, which suggest that maybe that wasn't really the first time. Perhaps he first transformed as a baby?

There's some stuff about bringing Eren back because maybe he's "the coordinate", whatever that means. And more stuff about Christa being important to everyone for some unspecified reason. Best guess, Reinhard's group is either working for the wall priests or working for someone opposed to them who want to use Christa as leverage somehow. Or maybe Christa is another shifter but she hasn't discovered her power yet?

Confirmation that somehow everyone in Connie's village were transformed into titans for some reason, presumably by the beast titan. Still no idea why, or how. Maybe some kind of gas? But what's the point? Especially if it's the wall priests who are the ones secretly in control of titan transformation. Unless there's a rogue element too. The beast titan did seem to be unfamiliar with modern military equipment.

Really can't make sense of Ymir's punishment, though. So after committing a crime, you're banished from the city to live as an immortal titan that eats humans. That seems like a crazy thing for the people inside the city to want to do. Although I suppose as long as the walls hold, it's a great way to maintain control over the people inside, if it's something the rulers do while keeping it secret from the people. Given how secretive the wall priests seem to be, this seems like a real possibility. But then why would Reinhard's group break the walls? So many questions.

(And I don't want spoiler answers from the manga readers, please.)

My initial thought was that Conny's mother titan form ate everyone in the village so that's why she couldn't move but then there'd be blood, obviously, which there wasn't.
But after that we get the information that Wall Rose didn't break or got any leak so the titans could only be from within, so where did all the villagers went ? They all got turned into titans somehow.
Maybe a capacity from that huge ape beast titan that can speak ? Or something from the "church/cult" considering Ymir's past ?

Seeing the slow pace it has, I don't think the last 2 episodes are gonna get to the end of this arc, unless... The last episode is gonna be a 50 or probably 60 minutes eps. Is that possible?? I hope so.

I'm still having so much trouble putting these pieces together. Just hoping it will all make sense by the end of this season, sounds a like some reveals will have to come out of order from what the manga readers are implying.

Anyway, Ymir's backstory was interesting and about as sad as I would have expected. I would've liked more time with that tbh, it felt a bit quick. Also there are way too many flags that Ymir and Christa's relationship is going to be a death immediately following confession thing... Which will somehow turn into betrayal and a major setback for Team Ningen. Ugh.

Good Episode like usual...

As the manga reader, I don't actually remember that Ymir's backstory at this point and They actually shows the part that supposed to be showing later in the manga (not supposed to be in this arc)? But I think It has It's own pacing I guess, still I would say "wtf?!" for this episode.

Alright, now we're getting somewhere! Ymir's backstory helped explain a lot of stuff. There are still some questions that need to be answered, but this episode helped connect some of the pieces together and I can take a few guesses as to what's going on. It took a while for AoT to get going, but after this episode, I'm interested to see what happens down the line.

Decent episode. My main issue was with the presentation of Ymir's backstory; it was both too rushed and too exposition-y for me to really get invested. It was intriguing and apparently hints at significant spoilers, according to this thread, but the way it was presented didn't really make me care about Ymir any more than I did before.

The military that arrested them and threw them off a wall could've been from inside the Walls, for all we know. The uniforms might've just been different because it happened 60 years ago. We can't be sure the governement isn't behind this.

Never thought they would show literally everything in Ymir backstory, this chapter came out literally month ago. It was really good episode regardless, I think Isayama told the anime team to include it so viewers will get more familiar with all these foreshadowing, so when we reach that point it will feel natural to viewers and not out of the blue, because he has dropped hints, but very subtle hints that your average anime only may not pay attention to.

I saw some persons saying the series is going anime original, calm down,

Seeing a scene that came out literally month go being animated feels great though. :D
Lmao, I'm very surprised that they did this....I'm not sure how I feel about it in the long run thoughh because I don't think that most anime original audiences won't pick up on this reveal after seeing this
