So what do you guys think about this? Is it an unoriginal rip off? I personally think it is, the title, the cover and most likely the content are extremely similar to Oregairu.

It is a ripoff. I'll atleast give it a shot though. Hopefully it won't have a 2nd main heroin.

Well, to be fair, the main heroine looks like a lot of other heroines.
Buuuut, you can't really mistake that thinking bubble on the cover - that's definitely Oregairu material right there. And I can confirm that because it's in the OPs as well as another cover.

The real question: Is the story bad, though?

Thats literally Totsuka Saika and Yukino right there.. Wtf?

I Will never read this unless Wataru Watari writes it himself. Actually, I probably still wouldn't read it.

wondering how wataru take this move, this isn't exactly ethical at all if they don't get permission

although i get why publisher do this, there's a market & demand for it & producer is on hiatus & always break his deadlines for last 2 year

i just hope watari didn't completely abandon his work due to this, rip off can co exist with original, the problem is can every1 tolerate it

and anime adaptation? jesus, there is almost no marketing at all for this

After seeing this, anyone familiar with Oregairu will think this is some sort of spin-off. No matter how you look at it, whether it's characters, story, or general aesthetic, it's an obvious rip off of Oregairu. So I have to disagree when you say that it's nothing more than the looks that are similar.

what content? What characters? Where is the info about that? Have you even read it? All you've got is a bunch of images from the looks of it.

Yes I am basing all this on the images and title of the novel. It's a romcom, you have the same aesthetic style, same publisher, characters look like someone scribbled over Oregairu characters and then said it was his, the "anti-youth" main character that refuses help. Doesn't that scream rip off to you? Yes I haven't read the novel, but after all the similarities, should anyone honestly expect that it won't copy the story as well?

how does it become an Oregairu rip off ? Is it the extremely edgy depressing loner MC people relate too? Or the fappable waifus ? Hope it's the latter

What are you talking about..? That series has barely anything in common with Oregairu.

Let me rephrase,

Classroom of the elite feels as if it's trying to pull off what made Oregairu great but fails horribly at it. Hence why I call it a rip-off.

It has the same concept, both series have a protagonist who appears completely disinterested in everything with average intelligence and poor social skills. A female protagonist who is cold and maintains distance from people achieving an unapproachable feel to herself. She has poor social skills, but above average intelligence and beauty to match her academic skills. Both anime have the same groups of students interacting with each other, the popular kids, the athletic kids, the smart kids. Both protagonists don't fit in with their personalities either.

Classroom of the elite can't pull it off though. Oregairu works because it’s a story aware of the edgy personas characters like Hachiman project and how they will have to learn sooner or later that that mindset is dangerous. Oregairu portrays Hachiman as someone who is trying to be this edgy, uncaring, loner even though as we see through his flashbacks and times when he acts kinda awkward that it really is just a persona he’s trying to pull-off. Ayano just is that edgy, uncaring, loner but even that is giving him too much credit because he’s simply this: boring.

It's similar to oregairu because the basis is the same. But fails to deliver on what makes that basis work in the first place.

How can you compare them, the classroom MC is way more edgy than Hachiman, that last line from the anime saying that he doesn't care for anyone and they are only tools (or something like that) made me cringe. Hachiman is a normal person in comparison.
