for those who didn't know what a Maid Cafe is (I'm sure all of you know what it is)

people can enjoy their thing u know, but it is just cringey and awkward imo, especially the "moe moe" "doki doki" shit.

Believe it or not, I read somewhere that half of their patrons are female.

But yeah, wear the maid outfit without the anime antics and you might convince me to consider setting foot on such place.

I see nothing "wrong" with it but then it is not really my thing and personally I do not see a reason to go to one but then I do not really go to any cafes or restaurants to begin with, Ihave not even been in MCdonalds or any of the likes in a year.

I feel uncomfortable when the waiter pours wine for you in a regular restaurant. I can't even imagine how awkward I would feel having some girl forced to wear a maid outfit and do a bunch of kawaii nonsense waiting on me.

I actually think it's kinda funny, just the usual Japanese craziness at work. Will definitely visit one this year when I'm over there to see how awkward it really is xD

You know that maid cafes are Japanese right? How could it possibly be "weebo shit"?

The only thing that would be weird for me is that a person in a cafe / restaurant doesn't act the way he/she would normally do. The only real occurrences I know where people are ''actors'' is stuff like movies, music videos or TV show.

But I guess you could also see it as a ''game'', like how back in the day you would play with your family pretending to be pirates or other stuff.

I don't dislike the moe stuff, I think it's cute. People in society in general shouldn't be so stiff, just have fun.

Defending Japan's open-minded culture against fellow gaijin that happen to have an ignorant attitude is a waste of energy. I don't like debates about things that are inherently good.

It seems so forced to me, anime-esque stuff can't be seamlessly integrated into real life to be honest, it's not as ideal in real life as we expect it to be.
But then again, I wouldn't mind the weird stuff too much as long as I get delish food there, hah.

It's cute but all the anime moe shit is trying too hard and kinda cringy. Worst is those who go to these places thinking they are dating the maids or imagine they could be their girlfriends. It's relevant because I feel like I'm going to see these guys if I go to a maid café.

Maids are pretty cool but the "moe moe" stuff would surely get old fast
But if I was with a friend and one was around I'd probably want to go just for the kicks and the experienc

I went to one in Akihabara and didn't like it. Cringe indeed. May as well go to a hostess club if you want to pay to chat up sexy women - at least there your chances are higher than zero.

I actually did go to one in Akihabara. It wasn't exactly riveting unfortunately. The ice cream was decent, but it was pricey as fuuuuuck. I did actually get to chat with one of the maids there, and I even spoke some Russian with her.

It doesn't look like my cup of tea, but I'm not attracted to Japanese women either, so maybe western women would be able to pull it off slightly better.

That being said, I've never been to a Cafe in my life, because I don't consume caffeine.

Been to a few because my partner wanted to go (especially for her birthday) so I can confirm 1) a lot of the patrons are females (more than half usually) and 2) A lot of them do this because they like to or it is actually fun for them.

The main issue is when creeps take things way to far or douchebags come in being douchebags.

The one maid cafe I went to said at the very bottom "Please do not ask us for our personal information as we are very shy blah blah blah" For them to HAVE to write that in their menu means that there have been many incidents of people being a bit too aggressive about getting the info of these girls.

If I ever visit Japan (which I doubt I will), I'd like to go to a maid cafe just to experience it for once. It would be interesting to see the little shows they would do, what food I'd get and to see the atmosphere of the cafe. Also, I'd like to give one of the maids at least a big tip to make their day.

They are fantasy. The waitresses/maids/servers would likely prefer you not to ask (it ruins the suspension of disbelief) but if pressed about it (like if you ask, "Is that your real voice?") they'll attest to it being a fantasy.

Japan has long had the experience of the "other world" that can be glimpsed and maybe visited for a brief time but is ultimately unattainable, creating a sort of sense akin to mono no aware. Thus, maid cafes and the 2D world are akin to the "Floating World" of the geisha. Where the latter is a surreal place of serenity and calm, simplicity and beauty, the former is a place of moe aesthetics and cuteness.

Word of advice: Avoid tsundere cafes. And imouto cafes.

They choose to work there, they are not forced to wear anything. If you have a job, you are expected to wear respectable clothing, other jobs can have set clothing due to the nature of the job, like Maids cafes & Restaurants.

The only way I'd ever set foot in there is if someone I knew really wanted to go in and wanted me to join them, someone dragged me in there or I knew someone that worked there and decided to visit to either support or embarrass them depending on the situation.

I've told by friends who went to Japan a couple years back, that going to a maid cafe can be a very unpleasant feeling. If you're looking for actual cringe then I highly recommend to visit a Tsundere maid cafe, now that some top-level cringe right there.
