TV Anime 'Grancrest Senki' Staff and Main Cast Members Announced

The staff and main cast members for previously announced Grancrest Senki TV anime have been revealed via Nico Live on Tuesday. The series is slated for Winter 2018.

Watching it just for the director

In all honesty I'm probably not going to check this out. Even if the original author or creator is involved... there's one person in specific that ticks me off with this one.



I dislike the series to be completely honest. And call it closed-minded on my part yeah, but I'm more picky when it comes to THAT guy. Not a fan of the series to be completely honest.

A-1 and inexperienced staff, huh. 5 minutes should be enough to tell like with most series.

I'm not sure how to feel about this even after seeing the staff and the synopsis, but since I'm usually drawn to these kind of anime, I'll most likely be checking it out.

I, for one, am extremely excited about this. First, lets talk about this franchise as a whole. From the writer who created some of the best light novels in the 80/90s, Mizuno Ryou! Some of you kids might not have any experience with his work but I want you to give his adaptations a try, at the very least. Lodoss-Tou Senki is a great place to start. With him writing the series composition I have faith in a faithful adaptation. This man was writing novels before the light novel boom was even a thing. So understand that he has experience in this area.

Now let's go on to my favorite ex-SHAFT director, Mamoru Hatakeyama (Shinichi Omata). After leaving SHAFT he retained much of SHAFT's visual aesthetics. Sankarea and Rozen Maiden (2013) were basically SHAFT shows outside of SHAFT. But with Rakugo he began to go on his own path forming his own visual identity but still preserving some of Shinbo's teaching. Rakugo season 2 was him at his peak considering he also storyboarded almost half of the series (very rare for a director to do).

Him doing work at A1 is exciting rather than troubling. When A1 gathers good staff around strong directors their projects shine. I have no ill thoughts about this adaptation. It is a perfect recipe for sucess.

Yeah they have a good track record. And I don't think the staff selected are "inexperience" either. I'm more on the low expected side of it because I don't really like the director, but the others are... okay I guess.

I don't get why people rag on A-1 when they've made PLENTY of good shows, and also the director for this directed Rakugo, so I think it'll work out ok

The ratio between the fappable kawaii waifus and the useless MCs are 3:4

Well. To explain a bit here, I wasn't a fan of his directing style I guess. Not to mention the show itself alone wasn't really for me in all honesty, so it may mostly be that.

Action/fantasy and A1 means that it will be good for sure

Of course they made a couple of good shows but they are more of an exception to the rule. Most shows A-1 made in recent years is either mediocre or downright terrible. Putting aside horribly bland or disgustingly cutely character design (similar to what KyoAni started doing since K-ON) they are putting into some shows out of nowhere. Bottom line is, A-1 produced so much garbage in recent years I'm weary of titles from them. Especially when staff doesn't look good either.

I guess the official site fixed it. Moca News, animate Times, Anime! Anime!, and even Official Twitter and Nico Live are listed under 矢野さとし (Satoshi Yano) instead of 矢野俊策 (Shunsaku Yano).

I see the A-1 hate is just as ridiculous as it already is.

This lookds horribly "modern" with all those flat faces and shiny skins. A1 on a Mizuno story... how to potentially spoil a decent thing.

Honestly don't know what people's issues are with A1. They have made some great anime and their animation is always consistent. If they were shit as some people are implying then they wouldn't be chosen for this kind of work.

Well the A-1 Pictures hate has been going too much in all honesty. I don't really get it either considering they do have some good stuff which I agree on. If they were shit, they should have most, if not all of their shows as pretty bad or abysmal constantly *cough* Arms *cough*

But in all honesty A-1 Pictures is a decent studio, and also people can't really pin point the quality of their shows in a sense since A-1 Pictures is an outsource studio (from what I can recall).

Did you take a look at the staff? The original creator is helping with the series composition.

I literally predicted back in October that this would be adapted by A1 pictures, how shocking.

I'm probably going to skip this show. The thing that might save it is the staff, so I won't completely ignore it. I'm a huge fan of the fantasy genre and this doesn't seem to be some isekai crap either, maybe there is hope?
