KMplayer, mostly.

VLC doesn't work for me on windows vista, Media Player Classic lags a lot, BSplayer started not working really well recently, and Windows Media Player closes automatically when i try playing videos in it for some reason...

MPC. No frills, job done stuff. I want to look at the video, not have a shiny shiny interface on the player.

That said, for playing DVDs I use PowerDVD, basically because I got it free, its interface is easier than all that mucking about you have to do with DVDs in MPC, and I found an addon thing (RemoteSelector) to strip out macrovision copy protection and region coding and let me fastforward through logoscreens and so on.

I used to use VLC, but after seeing more and more mkv files, I switched to CCCP and MPC. VLC and mkv are not compatible.

Media Player Classic, exclusively. It combined with CCCP is a dream compared to several years ago when I had God-knows how many codecs potentially conflicting.

VLC still seems to play the dodgy files that kill my MPC so it's not for newbies. Although that's all i ever use it for.

weird, you got cccp pack? if not thats the answer.

vlc screws with subs also, not recommended for anime for sure ^^

Im using MPC and CCCP yet 1/100 time when playing a dodgy file (from a batch thats still downloading but set as 100%) that kills media player, zoom player, every other player so i resort to VLC. Those dodgy files include an episode of dragon ball z, episode 1 of mahoromatic and an episode of GTO so not exactly a frequent annoyance.

When highlighting those dodgy files i get rundl32 (sp) error messages spammed on my screen so aye they're the type i open in VLC which seems to play them without problem while the other players like to stop responding.

When that happens MPC says 'unable to render the file' so I know I have to check the batch torrent's files again. But since I always stop torrents that reach 100%, force a re-check and then continue seeding (or downloading if the files aren't complete), that doesn't happen to me. However, my MPC plays dodge files, too. I don't even have VLC installed, there's simply no reason to watch anime with a player that can't handle softsubs properly and has poor audio output if I can use MPC. If your files are broken, don't blame the player.

[edit]: Typo.

Quoting pyramid rawr

But the torrents aren't 100% complete, only files within the batch torrent are (even though they turn out to be 91.1% complete). Say im downloading complete eureka seven, i want to watch the first episode so i put that on very high priority and it finished downloading before the rest. The bit torrent client says episode is at 100% (although seems to jump back later to 91.1%). The rest of the files in the torrent are most likely on 30% or whatnot.

So since MPC is very very rarely (as i mentioned only 3 episodes have caused it so far) affected by a file that crashes it from it's incompletion, if it is affacted i use VLC since i'm impatient to wait another few hours for the file to completely download properly. Everything apart those three exceptions when i was downloading them played fine in MPC (which is why mpc as default i use it since i despise having to read subs ontop of subs and manually changing the audio and putting on the sub track in VLC. Haali media splitter ftw! ).

And fixed the quote part... well the lack of from quoting izikiel

MPC or VLC
Do you know of ‘The Magnificent Steiner’ ? The main character was normally a weak, sickly man. When he was in an emergency, someone would come and help him. A secret friend. But, the main character never realised...... that his secret friend....Was himself.
