Even in my country or any South Asian country, if you commit blasphemy in front of many people or in television then either you will die, go to prison or start a riot (though it's highly likely you'll go to prison) If you have different opinion then it's alright but don't shove it on other people's face. Indonesia has always been run by muslims, at least in modern times. All we learned from this incident is that it's virtually impossible for kafirs -- what they call non-believers, to hold office and that religion (islam) can be used as a weapon to get whatever the fuck agenda you want and get away with it. That's not how it works. It is really not a them vs us situation due to the fact that minorities are oppressed by the muslim majority, in fact a lot of the testimonies against him were twisted by the widespread propaganda which was accumulated from the demos that radicals keep having every month. You might want to check what you're writing as racist because both the governor and most of these Chinese you speak of are born in Indonesia. |

The only point I am making is:- Indonesia is a diverse and religious country, if you think you can commit blasphemy and this will not cause riots then you are clearly deluding yourself. If the authorities wouldn't have taken any action against this then this would cause riots between Christians and Muslims. Btw I don't think minorities are pressured in Indonesia (if this is radical propaganda and he didn't commit blasphemy then why did you even say that the person commited blasphemy lol). The article clearly says that he was found guilty of blasphemy. Also, I was not being racist. I only wanted to say that if you want to commit blasphemy then go to an atheist country like China. sorry, it's currently on exam here... so, i believe most indonesiaon people on here currently off as well... i am just finishing my exam... ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ it's more political reason than anything, really... nobody gives a damn about it anymore because everyone know what it was actually... the hot news now is that indonesia banned another muslim organzation which ironicaly also part of the one againts ahok... http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-05-09/indonesia-to-ban-hizb-ut-tahrir-group-after-jakarta-protests/8508650 i heard they are targetting for the organization that accused ahok in the first place (islamic defendrf front)... both extrem left and right is on fire now... i wonder when next clash happened... oh, and ahok loosing is mainly because his political move than anything... ahok is really loved by middle and upper class, but hated by lower class... and his rival really smart to exploit every weakness ahok has when ahok has no real strategy againts it... i am actually ahok supporter (would love if he changing ourcurrent mayor), but why he loses is actually understable if you not blinded by political identity... |

| Yeah, that has something to do with political agenda more than anything else. The alleged blasphemous act took place at campaign period for the next governor election, the timing couldn't be more impeccable than that. Of course the opposing parties did not want to miss this opportunity to ride this issue and contort it for their own advantages in the name of religion which is still a very sensitive matter in this country. This is also not surprising to happen with most of Muslim population that less astute than animal farm, for they easily got manipulated by those politicians with their abstruse, ulterior motives who have been corrupted by the desire of power to satisfy their own interests. |

Also, the blasphemy law is written in their constitution. It's not like Indonesia will change it's constitution for one Christian. Let's just say Indonesia doesn't punish him. Do you think people of other faiths will be happy about this? This is what happened when government refused to take action last time On 9 December 2008, hundreds of Muslim rioters damaged sixty-seven houses, a church, and a community hall, and injured five people in Masohi, Central Maluku. The rioters were allegedly angry that a Christian school teacher, Welhelmina Holle, had allegedly said something blasphemous during an after-class tutorial at an elementary school.[9] The police arrested Holle for blasphemy. The police arrested two Muslim men for inciting violence. I guess this means it's time for everyone in Europe to convert to Islam to appease the terrorists! After all if they don't give in to their demands and instead continue doing the blasphemous action of "not being Muslims", the terror attacks will continue! |

I was under the false impression that you specifically talked about "appeasing people who turn to crime for religious reasons", but fortunately I was wrong. No problem then. Though as someone who believes in seperation of religion and government (often refered to as "seperation of church and state"), I personally don't like the idea of "blasphemy laws", but that's just about me personally. The law is the law after all. If one doesn't like the law, the only option one has is to leave, change the country from the inside somehow, or to start a revolution. |
