Someone already mentioned the big reveal of Mayoi Snail in Bakemonogatari, and, while I agree it's good, I ended more surprised by the end of Nadeko Medusa in Second Season when Man, that episode was gold. One of my favourites of the series. It's from Symphogear. The third season, to be more accurate. |

While I wasn't a huge fan of the twist about the at the end of Utena, it had several moderate twists throughout the series that were real mind-blowers, especially the ones at the end of the 2nd arc. The last 13 episodes or so of FMA2003 had a lot of shocking reveals and twists, culminating in the huge one with two episodes to go about . Madoka Magica's 10th episode stands to point also, as does the reveal about the setting and who made everything in Rebellion to a lesser extent. Bokurano's twists about the jipped system, who was exempt, and the way the mechas worked were also significant. Higurashi's 5th arc, how was the killer in the 2nd arc. Mixed with the in the 6th arc and the varying reveal's in Higurashi Kai about the entire setup. In-universe, the twist in Shiki that Vampires are real. |

| While I agree with everything so far, I want to mention somethig that is a BIG twist even if the anime itself is not really about twists (unlike most other examples) Beginning of the Toaru no Index franchise, Also the shounen twist, when you believe nobody will die and then suddenly someone dies - but in reverse - you expect someone to die because someone died before but noooo they just KanColle also zankyou no terror when this really really awesome and promising show turned into garbage |
