I forgot what it was, but I watched an anime I didn't really enjoy much until it ended and it had a really good ending which changed my whole perspective of that show, does this always happen to others or is it just me. Maybe I was just happy the show finally ended.

Definitely Haibane Renmei - if it weren't for that ending, it would've been nothing more than a somewhat alright show with a well-built atmosphere, but not much else. But, ho boy, the ending pulled it all together for me.

it's all depend...

if it's a build up kind of story, of course the ending will be pinnacle which most improtant things... stains gate was interesting for exact same reason...

in other hand, if continuity is not even it main focusses, journey will faaaaar more important than the ending it self...

Sounds interesting... Was trying to finish it as a rewatch.

I think such a thing can only apply to School Days. Otherwise, the ending only has the ability to kill an anime.
Be thankful for the wisdom granted to you.

Em depends.

If the show isn't too bad but the ending can be quite decent then it can pass. I mean more when it comes to issues not being as drastic by comparison.

However, if a show has a lot of issues within its runtime and it piles up every single episode, or it goes downhill in another half only to get a decent ending, while it can boost a bit on the score. No, it doesn't save the show from the mess it can make or forgive the faults it actually has for me. This is for the most part at least.

The ending of Tokyo Ghoul Root A upped my score from a 6 to an 8. So yeah, I guess it can. By how much is a different matter, though.

That is why I always think they should include the last part of the scene. Then I would rate 10/10 triggered everybody.

OT:

Yes it can. Ending is always + - 1 for me.

Sadly it's only applicable for the other way around. A good anime will usually be ruined if the ending sucks, but a bad anime will usually take more than a good ending for it to be saved.

It's the last thing you remember, so a lot of people hold more value on the ending than anything.

If an anime is truly bad, I generally won't even make it to the ending.

IMO its very dependent on the situation, but I'd say like 90% of the time it doesn't save it for me. On the 10% that it does deserve some recognition, the most I'd do is maybe bump it up a point. Bumping it 2 points seems a little drastic for just a ending.

If an anime already sucks, a good ending, to me, is not enough to save it completely. I'll just make me not regret watching the show.

It can make anime slightly better of course, but it won't suddenly turn it into masterpiece, at least I haven't seen anything like that yet.

In my opinion, not really. I'd like to use the example of Guilty Crown as an exception though. Guilty Crown had a pretty solid start and started deteriorating as it continued on. The school arc really killed it for me, but nearing the last few episodes, I saw an improvement. The ending-arc after the school arc salvaged it probably from a 4 to a 6.
In most other cases, endings won't really do anything if a show was already as bad as it was.

If it started good then became downhill between the last two episode which is quite a rush. NOPE, Cause It's Suck hard

Did you really pay attention to the story? I don't think so.

I consider endings an important part of the anime and they can have a significant impact on my general view of the show, but it's not really to the degree of 'saving' a shitty anime or completely ruining a good one.

yes , if a shitty ending can ruin the whole serie 'clannad after story, twgok (manga) , nisekoi (manga), re zero '...
then a good ending can make the whole serie worth watching (school days ending )

Majority of the time it doesn't if the plot is beyond saving or helluva rushed. Rare exceptions occur that I'll rate it +1.

Valkyrie Drive was overall a guilty trash fanservice show, but the last two episode were so over the top and fun, that it made me almost give it a 7. So it can at least make a show more memorable. I mean Ikki Tousen season two was trash, but the climax was the best of the series and made me able to bear watching another season which thankfully was good this time.

isnt that kinda contradictory?

OT: I dont know how I should be interpreting 'saving anime'(once again lol) but I dont think any part of the show has that much influence on my overall view on it, maybe a weak beginning might make me drop it and score low but that ofc wouldnt indicate the whole shows quality in any way.

A terrible ending that nullifies everything that happened before for me is a -3 like the one from Sun-ken Rock.

A mediocre show (5) can have a good ending but it will not change too much my view of the show since everything the lead me to it wasn't great.

If I liked the ending of a series it gets usually 1 or even 2 points more from me. The same principle can be applied to an ending I disliked.

Also, the last episode of "I wanna be the world strongest" was decent, while I still gave it a 3, I would not have minded watching the second season if they ever made one. If Ikki Tousen can have a good season despite being crap, why not that show.

for me, no. if i dislike an anime, i probably won't make it to the ending. on the other hand with a good anime and bad ending, my perspective will change sometimes. bad endings make me feel upset with the show.

Well, an ending has the power to make me up-rate or down-rate a few slots, so maybe, but that would only be if the show was was sub-par and the ending was good enough to give the show a rating higher than 6. I drop sub-par shows though, so I probably wouldn't get as far far as the end.

If an ending can ruin an anime- Madoka Magica 3 movie.

An ending can save an anime- School Days.

Bad endings have ruined more "rest of this anime was a 9 for me but the ending was a 2!" than the other way around. Ending of No.6 comes to mind.
