| Both are written by the same writer. There is actually some "theory" going around in both works. One of them being, both worlds actually happens in different timeline(past and future). |

| Yes, both series share the same author and universe. Accel World takes place approximately 20 years after the events of SAO. Like you said, SAO's NerveGear is a direct predecesor of Accel World's Neuro-Linker (something that was shown in the anime). And there are many more references connecting both series. Also this: |
