First of all sorry for necro'ing old post, was inclined to answer and since i was dead on here it will happen now.

If only art was as simple as 1+2 = 3. Of course there is objectivity in art, for eg, plot holes, but it is surely limited.

Art in it self is completely objective, so there is only objectivity in art. Subjectivity comes into play when there is someone to perceive that art.

Also implying that objective is simple...

Art is mostly subjective, and is meant to be interpreted differently by each individual through there own perspective, the very fact that you think art should be looked at on a one dimensaional view, irritates me. Discussion would not even exist, if we all have the same perspective.

Firstly i never said it should be viewed upon in one dimensional view.

If the way you say it should be view upon with lens of subjectivity then it would be impossible to discuss it in any way, not the other way around like you said. Since in that way art would not have any value in itself, only value understandable for perceiver, since i can never have your mind and you can't have mine any discussion would be meaningless gibberish. I doubt you even understand what subjective and objective really is tbh.

I can proof to you why art is not objective, all your friends on mal including @Marrone that was praising you on your statements, all rate anime differently from you, where each one of you, even if you guys have similar taste will still have different opinions on some anime than you, you know why is that? because we are unique beings, with different thoughts and perspective.

Objective is not the same as universal, again i doubt you understand those words tbh.
Also there is no way to be 100 percent objective, since every one of use have there own individual selfs that perceive that object. For example i myself also like some shows that are quite bad, just because they resonate well with my past experiences, like, dislikes and so on.

Another thing that comes in play here is understanding of any specific piece of art.

Answer me this, have you ever not have a intelligent discussion with someone where they explain why they like a series that you didn't, and even though you don't agree with him, you can at least understand the reason why he liked that series? Isn't that proof enough that art can be interpreted differently? Not only that, a person can like the same series as you, but for a completely different reason.

This is a complete strawman. I never told anyone that art can't be interpreted differently. if you believe otherwise quote me on it.

Art not being objective does not stop you from disliking or liking a anime, the whole purpose of all of us here, is to discuss anime with each other, and give reasons why we think this anime isn't good or vice versa.

Art not being objective means that my shit equals School Of Athens in artistic value every thing else is just a perception.

Also, Good and Bad implies objective qualities, you should used like and dislike in this.

It honestly seems like to me is that, if you guys let go of this objective none sense, your entire world will come crashing down. I know that the main reason why you guys want to believe in objectivity in art is because you guys want to feel a sense of superiority.

No sense of superiority here, let me illustrate this for you:

Lets say we have two painting, first is School of Athens, second is poorly drawn line by some 8 year old kid who was killed.

Now School of Athens is better art Objectively. But for parents of that child his painting is the best in the world because it refreshes memories of their child that's gone.

Now tell me again how preferring first painting in this scenario makes me feel superior?

Subjectivity and Objectivity is equality important parts in rating art, and nether one should be ignored.

I'm not telling you guys to like every anime, I'm not telling any of you to change your opinion. All I'm saying is to stop using the word "objective" to try and put your unique opinion above someone else unique opinion.

Instead of using "objective" as a way of saying you are right, use your arguments and your own opinion on why you think these anime are bad.

Arguing only makes sense if there is some objective qualities to argue about that's one of the reasons why objectivity is really important.

Guess what? I too can go around spouting the word "objective" and claiming my opinion to be the truth. Anyone can do it, not just you.

People who tend to not look pass objectivity, but use it as a tool of understanding specific piece of art, tend to also explain and argue about their opinion more. And I same to.

I see more of those meaningless explanations for those of purely subjective kind. Ex: 'I like that show because i thought characters where great, plot was interesting and art style was really original' - As i hope you can see this only says i like it because i like it.

I think there's noting wrong with people with Favorites List like that, it's their own taste then let them be. Don't be a prejudice, as if making Anime's like "Neon Genesis" and other complicated ones makes you an elite, Duh~ . Some people usually do that to look like one.

My only impression would be that he and i have nothing in common.
There is absolutely no reason why I should accept "turn your brain off" as a valid excuse to defend a poor show.

Well, I only see two of the anime fav and none of the manga fav
I think the personal taste might not be fit with mine, but I obviously don't have enough reference based on just the favourites... well, I admire the critical sense at least a bit, since it has Steins;Gate
