As my fourth language, it's not perfect by any means, but it was enough to live/work/travel in Japan for 5 years, and comfortable enough to sometime have dreams in that language.

I took Japanese from grade 9 to grade 11. Even took IB Japanese the last year I took it. I can still read and understand it to some extent, but I'm nowhere near where I was.

I can't, and learning the language doesn't really interest me. I don't plan on going to Japan anytime soon and anime is the only part of Japanese culture I really experience, so there's no point for me to bother learning it.

I would be learning Japanese if it wasnt for the written form of it. The spoken seems easy to me.

Watashi wa Nihongo ga wakarimasen. Or at least so I think you say that I don't speak/understand it. I only know about a hundred words or so and started to learn it a week ago, so I still have a long way to go.

I majored in Japanese (mainly for the language itself, but the degree is an added bonus, even if it doesn't worth much), so yeah, kind of. I've been learning it for 3.5 years now, and I'm still pretty bad at speaking/writing, but I understand a lot more. Still, I'm only a little above N3 I think. I could be better, but I'm just too lazy... I don't study enough :/

I haven't been to Japan yet, but I'm hoping to go in the near future, because it would be much more efficient to learn there. I don't necessarily want to live there though, but I wouldn't mind that :)

I'm kind of hoping to become a translator, so I'm doing a postgraduate specialist training course on that right now till 2018 (with English and Japanese as my foreign languages, and Hungarian as my native). I like translating because I'm not restricted by not knowing every word ever, and I can still easily find out the meaning even if I have to look up a word or two.
But anyway, we'll see what the future holds for me.

i took 3 classes of it and i feel that i've still only gained the simplest understanding of it.

it's nothing like spanish, which compared to japanese was like a breeze. I'm still way better at spanish then i am at japanese.

Good luck if you become a translator, that is the lifeblood of american anime fans lol.

I don't know much about Spanish, but yeah, it's unlike any other language I know of. It is sometimes similar to Hungarian, but then other times it's completely different :D It's hard, that's for sure. My main weakness is verb conjugation, because all the different types of conjugations can be quite difficult for me to remember.
When I speak I pretty much do it in the basic desu/masu, even after this much time :/ Though it also doesn't help that I'm nervous when I have to use Japanese :D
That's another reason I like translating more, because I don't necessarily have to speak it :'D I'm less nervous.
I want to learn other languages as well in the future, so I might try something like Italian or Spanish :P

ohh its similar to hungarian? Yeah my strategy has been to just throw words together in a way that sounds best (using what I know of course). But I haven't met too many Japanese people to see if I'm understandable yet.

I got a book called 'Japanese: The Manga Way' so I'm probably gonna read that and learn from it.

Yeah Spanish at least is just much more similar to English, not only gramatically but in terms of the vocab. It makes me wonder why English isn't considered a Romance language, given the similarity.

Picked up several english words and phrases thanks to anime.
Never really used it though. I opted to use my own native language or english language when communicating with others.
