In some ways yes, in some way no. This answer says it all.

But if I didn't want to be an ass. The novel is the novel, manga is an attempt at adaptation. Usually animation follows the novel, not the manga adaption, because they would have to pay double.

The animation, more or less, is tracking the novel. It has changed some things, emphasized things that the novel only alludes to, but it overall it is staying pretty close to the original source.

I heard the manga was better and wanted to make sure is it like the anime so I can skip the first chapters..

Novel, manga, anime all have different perspectives. Catchin' up other two is totally worth.

It was like watching/reading different series with the same theme. The pacing is more slow and expanding what happen in anime also it has internal though so it make you know why she doing that and what happened when tanya is not present and other great general doing. Likewise i am glad watching the anime first then read the manga.plus manga have better design
