Lol where are you getting at? Free started the fujoshi-pandering trend and paved the way for more similar titles to be released. Yuri on Ice is just another stand out. You seem to imply that we've never got yaoi or fujobait shows before YoI.

Free never got this much publicity though and recognition though, at least, not to my knowledge. Yuri on Ice is making even guys jerk their own dicks.

What's your point? You initially said that 2017 is going to be much worse than 2016 just because YoI was extremely successful which would lead to more similar anime being released in the future. If that's the case then every year after Free would have been the worst since it was the one which spearheaded the sudden surge of fujoshi-pandering shows due to it becoming a massive hit among the audience. Almost every season after its release would contain at least 1-2 fujobait anime so I don't get why you would even complain now when that has always been the case ever since. The fact that previous fujobait anime weren't as successful as Free and YoI means that this type of shows still cater to a very niche market. YoI, like I said, is just another standout because it took itself seriously with its character relationships involving men and was a breath of fresh air as far as sports anime is concerned.

Didn't even give 2 shit for Crunchyroll award. Tho I voted for Yuri!!!on ice in everything that it appears. Didn't know it will win. Anyway I'm so happy that it won.

Now I'm curious for the anime of the year, I'm sure it will Re:Zero tho.

Edit:- I've noticed many people are crying, but why? I mean didn't most of you said that Crunchyroll award is shit? Did you people vote?

Because Yuri on Ice is "overrated" despite selling 62,000+ DVDs already, threatening Attack on Titan to become the #1 selling anime OST of a long time, being one of the few if only anime ever to have the biggest professionals in the subject matter the show is about praise it like crazy, and the biggest reason . . .

"wahh only female voted for it" because a female vote means less than a male vote???? As if "only females votes" is a legit argument against something being "not worthy"? Because no males voted for YOI and no females voted for anything else. Obviously.

It's sad that a show like ERASED best Rakugo when it comes to best Drama, when Rakugo was a lot better written and a lot more focused on the drama aspect. Honestly, is hardly stands a chance at getting the AOTY throne it deserves, and if my prediction of AOTY is correct, things look bleak for us all.

I find it sad that YOI won in "Most heartwarming scene" category over that scene in Erased when Kayo gets her first homemade breakfast, recollects how her mother didn't care about it, and starts to cry. Given what she's been through, it was very moving, and more meaningful than the scene that won. It really made you realize how miserable that girl was.
But what won? A gay "kiss". That really shows how shitty and unreliable this poll is.

Most heartwarming scene was every single second of Natsume Yuujinchou Go Ep. 10 but fuck sequels of sequels of sequels I guess.
Most heartwarming moments for me were:

  1. the double rakugo by Yakumo/Kikuhiko and Sukeroku in ep 10 (or 11? CMIIW please) and Konatsu was so happy watching those two. That was the moment I realized that I've fallen in love with this masterpiece of a show. The moment I realized that I wanted to adopt two grown-ass men as my sons.
  2. Not sure if this counts, but the flashback when Mob first met Reigen just right before

  3. The scene with Kayo is no. 3 for me
No seriously.

Only if ppl ectually take it serious.

But I am glad to see that I am not the only one who disliked it.

This was just yet another popularity contest

CR just did the whole thing wrong, they Decided to do it while one season was still in hype and had unfinished series (like 3-gatsu).
They should have waited until the hype died down and then have given all the nominees a fair share of pr just to make things fair by popularizing all the contenders.
Plus they should have hired critical judges to decide who will win the awards and then have a viewers choice award instead of all this.

And I am afraid that either YoI, Erazed or Rezero will win instead of Rakugo....

Also the Nominees and categories were stupid,
Best fight picked a girl fighting random zombies over Naruto vs Sasuke and Gintoki vs Takasugi? Even Watchmojo Praised Gintoki vs Takasugo in their Top 10 anime sword-fights!
And best couple? Well stupid was written on the wall when they nominated a pair of kids who were not a couple.
All the categories were just popular things that fans were talking about without researching, need proof? Where is the best voice actor award? Where is the best soundtrack award? These awards were not there because they required Voters to research stuff.

Are there even more reasons as to why this popularity contest was bad?

Already predicted Best Couple, Best Opening, Ending, Best Fight Scene,
Most Heartwarming Scene, Best Boy, Best Girl and Hero of the year. I love YOI, but I think Mob Psycho 100 should've gotten Best Opening instead.
Help the industry and buy Blu-rays and DVD's.
Noragami is the best anime ever.

Well Subaru and rem was voted in the others section.
Shippers be shipping I guess. But still waaay to stupid.

And yh it wouldn't be weird if they watched the ending of Erased, they did the same with Naruto and Gintama.

I also have to ask this. How did absolutely none of the three biggest currently airing long runners not get any nominations for best fight? Especially considering how amazingly well done Naruto vs Sasuke was.

It was pretty obvious the moment they showed that the nominees were just the same 6-7 shows thrown together with some other random show they picked off the lottery.

To be honest, I am not a fan of the these long runners. Naruto vs Sasuke was like one of the veeeery few things that shippuden did right.

I think it is just because they focused only on shorter series sadly.

And about Saiki, it has like a 8+ here on MAL though so it is mostly that it is not popular/Watched much (even I didn't watched it yet), I only have heard positive things about it.
And yh I kinda enjoyed Sakamoto so maybe I might enjoy Saiki as well.

You also need to remember YOI won 6 (and possibly 7) awards. Any show that won half of the awards would result in a negative reaction. It doesn't help that it was nominated for pretty much every category. Being called overated is an easy way of explaining its domination.
The awards are sh*t but it could've been less sh*t.

I agree that Shippuden isn't exactly cream of the crop, but when Pierrot decides to get serious, the fights in Naruto can be really amazing. Tobi vs Kakashi is yet another example of this, which obviously was not legible for the "awards".

shigeo vs koyama is probably the worst fight in mob psycho
it made no sense regarding power levels it also lacked any sort of build up that would make me even slightly interested in the fight especially when the adversary is a unidimensional bad guy that was never shown before compare him with the ton of character teruki had before the fight with mob started and how interesting was to see their different ideas of how to use their powers being confronted
well the animation was godlike so i guess that all people need to call it a great fight

Not upset about the YoI domination since I quite liked the show but I wouldn't say it had the best animation (except for episode 1). It might be the thing that bothered me the most. I know it was very demanding because of the many skating scenes but i still didn't like it.
Glad to see Sakamoto there too.

How did it not make sense in terms of power level? Mob isn't a fighter and he was still holding back, so the lack of experience fucked him over hard against an adult and actually trained esper who was ready to lay the smackdown on him; his raw potential is insane but he's no Saitama. Not sure how a common situation like base talent vs experience is nonsensical in any way. I'd also argue that the fight did have thematic significance since it was the first time Mob had to make the conscious choice to compromise with his principles and that the adult esper had been around since episode 7, but it's mosdef true that there are more emotionally engaging fights in the series.

I mentioned Teekyuu because it's one of the most popular and beloved short series there is. Even it couldn't break the curse of a short getting above a 7 rating, but Saiki did which says a lot about how good it really is. his lack of talent is meaningless because the difference in power is abismal
he was able to completely stop the guys move and do whatever he wanted with it without even needing to go over 100 why the hell would he need any experience to do the same thing before when he was using way more of his powers?
i also desliked the way he simply took a split second decision of abandoning his life long ideals and using his powers on koyama if the show really wanted to make the decision of whether or not he will use his powers meaningful and significantl it should not have put him on a situation where he had to use his powers with no regards to anything and barely give a fuck about the event after he happened
and of course the esper guy got a ton of character in the moments he apperead briefly before the fight

I was talking about Mob's lack of experience, not talent. That's pretty much what made the whole difference in the first half of the fight. Like I said, Mob is not a fighter, and he didn't know what kind of power the hoodie guy had, so when he let the dude get in his range and let himself get caught in a hand-to-hand combat (against someone who literally specializes in that area), he obviously got his ass handed to him.

he was able to completely stop the guys move and do whatever he wanted with it without even needing to go over 100 why the hell would he need any experience to do the same thing before when he was using way more of his powers?
You're talking about something that happened after their first encounter. Of course he'd be aware of how to deal with him by the time they met again, having already fought and almost won against him once.

i also desliked the way he simply took a split second decision of abandoning his life long ideals and using his powers on koyama if the show really wanted to make the decision of whether or not he will use his powers meaningful and significantl it should not have put him on a situation where he had to use his powers with no regards to anything and barely give a fuck about the event after he happened
Koyama was threatening his brother's life. Mob doesn't care when he's the one being hurt but the whole prelude to the fight made it pretty damn clear that his family is completely off limits. Plus at this point it was either fight back or let my brother be taken God knows where. Hell, even then he was still trying to hold back against Koyama the whole time (which certainly didn't help), even though he could've turned him into mush. Not sure what you're getting at with the rest of your sentence: are you implying that Mob didn't give a shit about what happened in that back alley? Even though the whole thing left him emotionally strained for the major part of the 7th Branch arc? Even though he was pretty much agonizing over what decision to make during episode 11? I dunno, man. I don't see it.

and of course the esper guy got a ton of character in the moments he apperead briefly before the fight
Not every antagonist needs to have "tons of character" before being introduced in the story or challenging the MC. Koyama's a grunt with much less relevance than what his first appearance may suggest: no need to spend hours on his backstory to get what he's all about.

seriously man .. YOI - Best animation ??? Most heartwarming scene ??? Give me a fuckin break !! People just voted blindly for YOI , they were like - " Oh YOI .. m gonna vote for it for sure " .. without even looking at the category. Its not that I hate YOI, its grate bt being an anime fan you can't be blindly obsessed with an anime. I don't know if anyone gonna agree with me or not bt for me the Best Animation was "Tales of Zestiria :The X" nd Most Heartwarming Scene was "Rem's Confession from Re:Zero" .. but damn they were not even in the nominations. And yeah .. i forgot about the best opening .. where is 91 Days opening "Signal" ??? I know its my personal opinion bt its not that bad nd it was supposed to be nominated. Quite disappointed.

Yeah because what mob really needed to figure out he could simply stop the guy movements and use telecynesis on him was to get beat up for half an hour by the guy that sure makes a lot of sense
What left him agonising was his brother kidnapping not the freaking fact he used his powers in koyama that fact he now will use his powers on other is barely acknologed as something important by the character but the issue mob is conflicted suddenly changes for whether or not he will pass the 100 when fighting
Exactely koyama is a barely important grunt with not much character so the why the fight with him is such an amazing confrontation i have no idea
It does not set any emotional stakes regarding the guy it barely constructed him as a big treat before the fight and it gave me all the wrong vibes about this show focusing more on dumb shonen fights and a generic rescue mission plot from that point on(something that ended up not happening and leaving me pleasently surprised

I'm surprised. With all the Re:Zero fanboys that exist out there one could have expected Re:Zero to win all the awards. But maybe in the CR community it is different than on MAL and not that many Re:Zero fanboys there.

Pretty average stuff that won those awards. I only know 3 of the anime. Sakamoto was entertaining and Erased as well. But not something I'd vote for in an award.

I can't take those results serious. Re Zero or Mob Psycho should have been AOTY but at the same time I haven't seen Yuri on Ice.
So my question is Yuri On Ice that good or is it overreacted?

You didn't need a CR account to vote.... and according to some posts on the thread for the awards on CR, it seems that Yuri! on Ice got a lot of marketing by it's fans on Tumblr.

Depends what are you looking for.

It's ice-skating anime with rom-com and it's good at what it is.

You're talking about something that happened after their first encounter. Of course he'd be aware of how to deal with him by the time they met again, having already fought and almost won against him once.

Seriously, you saw the same episode as me so I don't know why I should make a recap of what happened. Koyama literally took Mob by surprise and before he knew it some bigass dude was laying a brutal combo on him. He had no time to think about or do anything since he was getting his shit pushed in. What I meant when I said that he figured out what to do by the time they met again was that he had no reason to do the same mistakes he did the first time.

Like I already said, as far as Mob was concerned his brother's life was on the line, which was pretty much the only thing that could've pushed him to act against his principles. And again, like I already said, the whole thing was adressed again in episode 11 where the conflict revolved around Mob feeling like he needed to use his powers to actually kill (or at the very least severely injure) the Scar leaders that were attacking them. So yeah, it definitely WAS an important turning point for Mob and I don't know how you managed to interpret it as a shift in focus to "is he gonna go 100% or nah".

The fight was "amazing" (though I wouldn't really use that word to describe it: it was just brutal to me) because it meant a lot for both Mob and his bro, not because of Koyama. A fight doesn't have to mean something to the opponent, or rather, the opponent doesn't always have to be presented as a foil to the protagonist in order for the fight to carry emotional or thematic weight: there are tons of ways to make a fight work, and Mob vs Kageyama was just one out of the many used in the show.

YOI didn't deserve best animation. It was very incosistent. The only characters with good quality animation the whole time were Yuuri, Yurio, and Victor. Poor Phichit got shafted during his short program in China. His animation was awful. Lots of reused animations as well. Mickey's free program used samples from the opening sequence and the OP was just the same thing twice. YOI is my second favorite of the fall season, but it still has its problems and I'm not going to vote for it over something better just because I liked it more.

MP100 had, by far, the best animation. The simple style made it easy to animate and the quality was top notch the whole season. I was in awe with how some of it was animated, like the opening sequence. It was amazing.

All these seem pretty expected except for YOI getting best animation. I thought we all agreed that MP100 shitted on everyone with it's animation and style this year or maybe I'm just really out of touch.

You are either a fool, intense YOI fan, or didn't watch the other anime to think YOI deserves best animation. It's the weakest option. Excuses like "ice skating is hard to animate" are prohibited.

Justice was received via MP100 winning best action. RIP Kira Yoshikage's 1st or 3rd place.

YOI will win best anime. No need to wait until the 28th for that result.

Really bad results. Best boy should have been Arataka Reigen, most heartwarming scene should have been Kayos first meal, best animation should have been Flip Flappers (Mob Psycho 100 is a worthy runner up though), Mob Psycho 100 should have won best OP (it's a crime that it didn't), and Flip Flappers should have won best ED (or at least been nominated).

A terrible results as i expected, MAL forums are much more educated about art and critical analysis than random fans in popular websites.

Also why wait for 28 Jan? lol. It very obvious which show will win, it is Re:Zero, look at REM a character who is a stupid generic loli wins by that much.

Dont worry Lelouch, there are about three major Japanese awards which are much much better than these stupid awards (still respect them a little xD)
Watch out for Tokyo Anime Award, I'm sure Rakugo will be one of the candidates, they choose a real worthy winner most of the time, Also Animation Kobe and the Festival of Arts have good choices each year.

Kobe got some gud pics (except the Year SEED won), like Geass/R2, Bebop, Turn A, and some others. Tokyo at least gave Shirobako a win, so I can forgive them after giving Frozen a win, and I've got nothing for Japan media. I pray that Rakugo will win. It's the definitive AOTY of 2017 if actual story and character quality is concerned (which, is supposed to be a given).

It's a sad day for us all of MediocRE:Zero wins, albeit Rem is the only good and developed character in they show.

Let me give you another good news, Rakugo manga already won a Manga award (one of the majors), I bet it will win at least one from the three anime awards, although it was not my type of anime, i still think it's made well, my pick would be Mob Psycho 100, but it was a weak year anyway.
If any of the strong titles in 2006 was aired in 2016 it will blow all of these weak shit easily.

Also dont mind Frozen, they pick a foreign title each year (Edit; not the case lol, they really fucked up in film category that year yup xD), if you go down a bit you will see the older winners, before 2013, because after 2013 they emerged and now it is a larger festival.

Just searched up the winners in the history of the Tokyo Anime Awards and why Madoka Magica didn't win the best music award escapes me. That's my personal favourite anime soundtrack and gives me the same feels that Final Fantasy IXs soundtrack does. Other than that it had some good choices.
