Holy crap! Congratulations, MAPPA!

Drifters sold really well too, no wonder they confirmed a second season already.
I don't exist. But, maybe, I once did.

I’m so happy to see YOI selling 35k copies in its first week, actually I wanted it to sell 50k copies but I guess sport anime can’t sell this huge compares to Idol anime. Anyway, God, thanks for making my wish come true. I would like to buy it but I’m not a fan of collecting anime in Japanese, so I should wait 2-3 years for Funimation to release it. :D

And I'm so happy to announce that Yuri on ice!!! is the most sold sport anime for Vol.1. I'm sure it's going to beat Free! Both seasons.

Now I’m curious Utapri sales.

B-Project is selling lesser and lesser wtf. Well, I’m bit sad.

@tsubasalover double post for blu-ray?

50k in a week. Insane numbers but expected this weeks ago based on predicted sales.

Glad that MAPPA finally has a hit. They deserve it.

(I expected high sales... but not like this!!)

I wonder how much they improved the animation quality in the BD release.

Animation of the first two episodes really don't need any improving.

Yeah massive sales. Is that the biggest success for a completely new show last year?

EDIT: 2nd Biggest in sales for 2016 only behind the juggernaut Love Live

It was predicted for roughly 35k for a over a month now, this is basically just confirmation. But yeah still pretty big. Think it's like top 25-30 all-time for volume 1 sales

I'm pretty sure I remember some awful looking shots in the 2nd ep. XD (The characters weren't even skating... just standing still and talking. Yet the picture still looked pretty bad.)

I think Osomatsu-san sold the most in 2016.

Osomatsu was fall 2015.

On TV yes. Pretty sure the BDs weren't out until after the end of the year though (just like right now for the current fall anime)

When people talk about "highest of season" or "best of year" they are talking about the season and year it aired in. Otherwise Yuri on ice would be a 2017 show.

Something a little too good sales for OVA. Was so good title?

UtaPri is your "love live" for girls and they've making that for years.

Also MAPPA is on the production committee for Yuri on Ice and this is about 6k higher than Stalker predicted.

Well yeah but that's not what we're talking about here. We're talking about which series sold how much during a specific 12-month period. Has nothing to do with when they aired. If a 2014 show suddenly sold a ton during 2016 for whatever reason it'll still be listed under 2016 sales even if it's a 2014 anime, etcetera. Same with long-running shows like One Piece

Utapri always have incredible Vol 1 sales, then it tapers off to have 20-30k average. YOI may or may not have a better average than Utapri.

For week 1 sales:

Utapri season 2 vol 1:

BD - 28,253
DVD - 26,207
Total - 54k
(source)

Utapri season 3 vol 1:

BD - 31,157
DVD - 18,120
Total - 49k
(source)

That was expected from YOI.

13. **,981 *3,060 Kuma Miko Vol.1 "Kuma Box"

I guess the 80% price drop on the Kuma Box helped them sold a little more.

MAPPA is in the production committee but they're at the very bottom of the list so they'll get the least portion of the profit I believe.

Yuri !!! on ICE
Production - Yuri !!! on ICE Production Committee

Planning
Avex Group

Dentsu Inc.
CIC
cygames

Im sure this whole thing might spawn a new trend to pump out lots of fujoshi bait, seeing how this sold so much, which even the most hyped shows can hardly compete. This is pure profit what the studios were aiming for all these years
It'll join forces alongside cgdct shows, stuck in a game shows and all dat shiz

They've been in the production committee of various shows. Keijo being another example of last season. They're quite big on the mobile market so I'm not surprised by this.

Yeah think it's predicted around 900-1k or something. It's way too niche to sell that much

Holy shit. This probably set off some of the highest BD/DVD seasonal anime sales record of 2016. Who would've thought that bunch of gay guys on ice can make off money more than almost every other anime ever.

It's too bad it wasn't officially subtitled "Yuuri on Ice" in the marketing and packaging. That likely would have reduced the confusion. It is a long 'u' in Japanese but they chose to shorten it like Yuki Aoi usually does with her name when written in romaji.

Honestly I quite enjoyed Yu(u)ri on Ice! It was a lot of fun! Not a show I'd buy but having actually watched it, there's no way it would have worked with a female cast. Would not have worked at all.

I've heard rumors of Kubo sensei working on a yuri story though (not Yuuri). She doesn't like het relationships. So yuri fans may get their wish too.

35k for Yaoi on Ice, Damn. Then again it wasn't unexpected.

Well Film Gold sold ~52k counting all versions, so technically One Piece is on top. XD

Drifters almost 10k, Nice. Can't wait for that S2.
Glad to see Hibike doing well.

Fairly good second week sales for Sunshine as well, glad to see that. :)

Not even remotely surprised by how much Yuri on Ice sold.....
I'm no special story or anything. I'm just a manga that wants to be read, like you could find anywhere. But, if, for argument's sake, you were to adapt me into an anime series, it would certainly be....a tragedy.
