| Objectification has many meanings. If you're referring to the objectification of women, then look no further than your OP. There isn't anything wrong with what you've said, in my opinion, since people have different preferences. However it is when those preferences are presented as objects that creates the wrong. Objects can be owned, but if a person is owned, then is it wrong? If you are not taught to differentiate, then it is wrong. I know men, women, children, all used as objects for the crooked desires of others. An acquaintance of mine, had been used for sex for many years, by her step father, by her ex boyfriend, many other men who thought it's okay to just use her. She was never prostituted but since young she was used - when her step dad was confronted, after she reached out for help, he blew out his own brains. Many people unknowingly objectify others as well, as did the men besides her step father - to some of them it was a one night stand, as an example. Everyone is a victim, with varying degrees in this scenario. It's the essence of how we perceive people. In my opinion, the objectification of a person or idea that people can be used for inhumane acts, is wrong. For those of you saying you can't use fictional characters and scenarios for the purpose of objectifying others - then you're wrong, says everything I've ever learned in the past 5 years of social studies. |
