I saw this new around twitter, but honestly at first I was really worried since Shaft still had a shit ton of stuff in their production still, but then after seeing the producer I think while it will still be a bit of a problem, it wouldn't be something bad.

For this Takeuchi having a directorial debut it's something interesting, so I wanna see how he will work on this one.

That Synopsis sounds like it's trying too hard to imitate Inio Asano's writing style.

its an adaptation of a 1993 live action film? but u rite it has that abstract and nostalgic/sentimental feel to it.

Asano debuted as a mangaka in 1998. Fireworks aired in 1993.

If a contest gets to decide if you get to be with her, it doesn't sound like she's worth it to me...

Actually I've seen this a lot in films in all honesty. It's not really a bad idea per say. .-. But it all depends on how its executed, but that's just how I see it.

Yeah me too. I've seen it done well and I've seen it done poorly. When it's done poorly, it just comes off as insulting to the person who gets fucked over.

This seems...fun? Shaft is almost always good, I'm looking forward to it.

If you had any common sense and knew what anime is (hint: it is an industry of its own), you would know that they're trying to make money.

The impression I had of the original TV movie was that it didn't have any loose ends. I remember it as a low key production and I thought the young actors in the show put in pretty good performances. It was quite charming.

I guess my question "Why?" came from the perspective of what I remembered of the TV movie. I guess part of question came from how I didn't think the original had had enough impact to warrant a re-imaging 23 years after it had been broadcast. (But then again, I wasn't aware the movie had been repackaged for a run in the movie theatres in 1995.) Plus I remembered the show as being good enough such that I felt it ought to be left as is. But that often isn't the case here in Japan.
