According to Natalie, the serialization of manga Alive ended on February 6th. The final volume 21 will be released in May.

Its anime adaptation was announced in July 2008, but the author Kawashima Tadashi revealed in his official BBS on January 13th, 2010 that the project has been stagnating long and he hasn't been informed of any updates. Last October, he also mentioned the bad status of the anime producer due to the economic recession.

Ah, I thought the anime project had been canceled altogether a few months ago already (something about the project being removed from the studios' websites?). Even if nothing has been made official, I'd tend to think that everyone's moved on, since Hiraike Yoshimasa is currently directing Working!!.

The fact that this was to be a Gonzo & AIC collaboration is most likely the reason behind the cancellation... Their last effort together being S.A and its downright terrible sales, they couldn't go and animate yet another averagely popular manga which was bound to sell poorly. This is a real shame, I'm a huge fan of the manga and think Hiraike's a talented director too.

Since Gonzo is out of picture,I hope any studio will pick up this project in future.Bones,Production I.G,Madhouse or Brains Base is few studios that came out of my mind capable producing Alive anime adaptation.

AIC resigned from the collaboration long ago. After that, Gonzo continued to work alone on the project, but their financial problems led to the project being "frozen".

I still hope they'll pull it off somehow...but I don't want the project being transferred to other studios.

How did the live action film do commercially? That should really be the determining factor in whether an anime version is economically feasible or not.

You confuse Alive manga by Kawashima Tadashi (the subject of this thread) with Alive! manga by Takahashi Tsutomu. The latter is the one that got a live action adaptation.

Need to read this now.
bla bla bla
The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.

I effin LOOOOVE the manga!!!! I hope in any case that it will be made into anime. I can't believe they are animating other totally shitty stuff ... (don't want to mention now.. ) and they won't pick up this one!!! The story, the characters, everything is really amazing!!! *.*

Just two more volumes of scans and it's over... it sure was fun to read this manga, it's a shame there is not anime adaptation.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. Clearly, authors should be choosing longer and more unique names for their manga!

Well, the full title of the manga is Alive - The Final Evolution.

Anywho, the manga is a rather interesting shounen, so the anime might not be a complete waste.

I hope this somehow works out; I'd like to see it animated. I also should finish the manga now that's it's complete. I have problems keeping up with currently publishing manga...

Oh, come on Gonzo, don't bail out now.

Alive!'s finished, so an anime would be good to watch. That's a start.

Send them money instead. :)

Actually, I wonder if some kind of fund like, "help Gonzo to animate Alive" could work. I wonder if I could send Gonzo a letter and ask what they think about it themselves. :D
