As dawn broke upon the camp, Cisco was already up. He had a large iron kettle of coffee on the campfire, and was absentmindedly poking at the embers with a stick. Nights werent particularly fond of Cisco, and the feeling was mutual.

He leaned over and smiled a tired smile as he could smell the coffee being ready. He considered waking the others, but figured he would leave it up to them to wake on their own. He pulled out a cup fashioned from simple wood, and filled it by simply lowering it into the kettle. The heat against the cold morning air made a stream of steam rise from it, something that made Cisco smile again.

Hai woke up with a rather loud yawn, it had been a good sleep. The previous night had also been good, listening to cisco's story he found a brother in him and so he shared his own tragic story.

Getting to his feet Hai stumbled over to sit next to Cisco, heartily slapping him on the back.

"Maaaaawniiing"

Hai was not one to pause and wait for a yawn to pass before talking.

Chiyo was nowhere to be seen. There was however a large black object on the ground that made muffled noises and appeared to be about her size.

"Oh, morning Hai-kun" He replied surprised, raising his cup both as a greeting and an invitation to help himself to the black liquid gold of power.
"At my age you start getting slow in the mornings~" he said, defending his habit with a smile.

Suddenly he noticed the muffled noises coming from behind, and noticed something had crawled into their camp.

Hai helps himself grabbing a cup, or rather a bowl because who brings cups. Hai turns to look where cisco talked at

"Somethings there!"

Not too worried about the object Hai walks over and gives it a good solid kick.

Hai felt his foot sink as he kicked the black thing which popped to reveal Chiyo wrapped around his leg, gnawing on it. She still appeared half asleep.

"Bleh, this chicken tastes like feet."

After Hai shook her off his leg she realized she was not dreaming, or eating chicken.

"Eww, why did you try to make me eat your foot!?" she shot at Hai, a look of disgust clear as she covered her mouth with a hand.

Cisco had a moment of disbelief at the scene transpiring before him, but resorted to a simple sip of the cup and shaking his head. These new allies seemed wierd enough to be called a family, but whether they were as dependable as one still remained to be seen.

Almost as if on que, like the universe knew what he was thinking, Cisco heard something in the distance. Clattering steel, almost like chains being shaken, arose far in the distance into Land of Wind territory. Shortly after, smoke begun to rise from the horizon.

"Y'hear that? If i didnt know any better i'd say we just came across trouble" He said jokingly, not actually thinking there would be trouble. Shortly after however, a medium sized rock crashed into the ground nearby coming from the source of the sound. Cisco had to step off to the side in order to avoid getting hit.
"Whoah.. That could've been bad.." He mused surprised.

"Hear what?"

After a short whistling noise a rock comes crashing down into the ground nearby

"Was that the noise? Or is there still more and we should consider dodging?"

Hai had missed hearing the clanging of steel as he was busy shaking Chiyo of his leg and being told it tastes like foot. Which is a good thing right, foot should taste like foot.

"What isss it? Where did it, come from,"

She rapped a fist against the stone and sniffed it.

"This is mine! You guys find your own," she said, sitting on top of the rock.

"I dont know, it sounded like metal. And i would know the sound of metals.." He replied in deep thought.

"In any case, its coming from the direction we are headed. While i dont like the feel of this, we have no choice but to investigate. Agree?" He said, surprisingly calm all things considered. Maybe he was feeling determined becouse they were getting closer, or more gutsy with two bodyguards instead of one. He wasnt sure, but he knew he was curious about the source of the flying rock and smoke.

"Well we better get walking."

Seemingly without a care in the world Hai took off walking towards to smoke, ignoring the fact Cisco had yet to pack up the kettle and whatever else he had unpacked.

Not completely scatter brained Hai lets the chains on his arms unfurl a bit; just in case he needs to be ready for trouble.

Chiyo abandoned her rock in favor of following Hai. She trailed in his shadow, contorting her body to keep herself inside it.

"You know, given how you're dressed, you're not very stealthy?"

Hey body is shrouded in a dark haze, obscuring her outline and erasing her presence as she blends into his shadow.

As they approached, the sounds became louder and clearer. Someone was fighting close by, and a lot of them too.

Getting closer to take a look, the battle finally comes into view. A small convoy of horsedrawn carriages were being attacked by a group of shinobi who had chosen for some reason to not wear headbands. The ones defending the carriages, were clearly Suna native, apart from a young boy hiding in the rear carriage facing Cisco and the others.

It had clearly been a long battle from the scenery, but what was more clear was that the Suna nin defending the carriages were losing descisively. They were down to two lone masked females, wielding blades clad in rippling sand and wind chakra. They were clearly the toughest to take down, as they expedited several of the bandit-nin before falling pray to a paralyzing jutsu before their very eyes.

The enemy forces were well spent aswell, reduced to just 4 individuals. Three of them were the offensive ones that cornered the two masked females, and the final bandit, the one who had used the paralyzing jutsu had kept out of the fray until it was his time to act.

It became clear to Cisco and the others that the bandits still had not discovered the child in the rear carriage, but were moving in that direction as they searched. He would be found in seconds unless they did something, and Ciscos expression told the others that he was about to do something really stupid.

Seeing the crazy glint n Cisco's eyes Hai grins broadly; glad he wasn't the only one thinking stupid thoughts.

Hai takes off running at full speed before leaping into an impressive flying kick aimed at the ninja off standing on his own; the one that had sued the paralyzing jutsu.

"DYNAMIC ENTRY!"

Hai looks magnificent as he flies through the air, leg extended and chains flying majestically behind him.

Chiyo was glad that the idiot ran in head first, it gave her a distraction and allowed her close enough to shadow step over to the two paralyzed Suna nin. She threw a smoke bomb down to cover herself and activated her Ink-eyes to meld into the black haze.

After giving each woman a shake she was forced to cut them with Faceless void to break them free. With the smoke now clearing she retreated into one of the shadows as nothing more than a pair of red orbs that turned black. Two new masks in her pocket.

Cisco was surprised when Hai lunged ahead, but thankful. It gave him time to build up pressure and momentum, as each step he ran shook the tank causing the reaction which increased its pressure. Within 4 steps it had reached critical levels, and started venting excess steam on each step, unable to hold any more. It was when the pressure was maximized that Cisco could do his thing.

Bracing himself for the G-force, he repeated the technique he had attempted earlyer. This time, the result was devestating.

"Displacement!" He yelled, and once again accellerated so fast that he vanished from sight with a pop from the steam valve and a short "hiss". A trail of steam appeared in the air before Cisco re-appeared crashing into the back of the rear carriage, almost tackling the boy in the proscess.
"Keep your head down, we'll figure this out" he said to the boy, too nervous and anxious to really think about his choice of words. He shouldve probably told him he was going to be safe, or that everything would be ok, but instead snuck out of the carriage to see how his new friends were faring.

The defencive bandit-nin was surprisingly quick on his feet, managing just barely to avoid the incoming flying Kick. He almost lost his balance from the improvized dodge however, and could not properly counter. Instead he activated a substitution technique, fleeing to somewhere among the nearby treecrowns.

Meanwhile, the masked Suna-nin had been broken free and unmasked, and the three offensive bandits had taken note of the intrusion. One headed for the carriages, while the other two split up to engage Hai and Chiyo seperately.
The unmasked nin looked at eachother for a moment, and then surprisingly vanished with a quick Flicker technique. It was almost as if they had changed their minds about protecting the child, or something more pressing had come up. Whatever the reason, their exodus meant that the bandits were now solely focused on Hai and the others.

The one who appeared before Hai, was a giant of a man wielding no weapons but dual-wielding a large kite-shield in each hand. He was covered in thick armor from head to toe, and his face obscured by a greathelm. He slammed his shields together in a show of force, challenging Hai to come at him.

The other one, more aggressive than the first, had charged straight into the smoke-cloud in an attempt to overpower Chiyo along with the Suna-nin, but found himself alone once the smoke cleared. He had no weapons or armor to speak of, in fact he looked as plain as a Suna-chuunin could ever look, with the exception of his eyes. His eyes were cold and lifeless, the surprise of Chiyo vanishing didnt even register emotionally on his face, he simply started scanning his surroundings for any sign of her. A no-bullshit nin, in other words.

The third, searching for Cisco (or strictly speaking, searching for the source of the huge crash into the rear carriage lol), was a swordsman of light build. His blade was shaped like a Katana, but lacked any sort of guard. His approach was more meticulous than the other two, searching silently among the carriages.
At this moment, he and Cisco was on opposite sides of the rear carriage. Cisco hiding on the right side, where Chiyo had been. And the bandit sneaking around the left side, where his mate were challenging Hai just over yonder. He and Cisco was mere feet from eachother, whoever got spotted first would be in trouble.

fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck

It wasn't hard to guess what was going through Hai's mind the moment the giant armored Hulk stepped in front of him and menacingly bashed his shields together. All Hai could picture was his head getting crushed between the two pieces of metal.

Hai flicks a couple handsigns before leaping backwards and extending his arm forward with the other bracing it.

"Red Flame Cannon!"

A small red ball of chakra, about the size of a golfball, shoots forth from his palm with quite the surprising speed as it rockets into the giant of a man before him. The bandit didn't even dodge and instead the attack exploded on his chest plater not even doing a hint of damage. It looked like that attack didn't even reach the explosive properties of a normal explosive tag.

fuckfuckfuckfuck

Using the hopeful cover provided by the ability Hai fully unfurls his chains and hips them around him, circling them around his body ready to attack.

The Bandit had other ideas as he leapt forward out of the small dust cloud raised by Hai's attack. His shields up he charges at Hai. Hai grabs both of his chains and swings them full force into the shield only to have them simply bounce off as the bandit flings his arm wide shield bashing the chains away.

Flicking a handisgn Hai managed to body flicker out of there just as a second shield bash slams into where he would have been.

Even now being behind the big bandit Hai had no idea what he could even possibly do to such a hulking wall of metal.

Donning the mask of one of the female suna-nin Chiyo takes on her form. Her stiletto dagger morphing copying her blade.

With no killing intent and a silent wisp of black smoke she shadow steps into her opponents shadow. Blade swinging in a wide arc to distract from the stomping kick also launched at his right knee.

Without looking he dodges the blade by ducking down and launches a backwards kick from his right leg to meet Chiyo's and send her sprawling outside his shadow where she is revealed.

A flicker of confusion crosses his face as he sees one of the suna-nin who fled, but when he notices the blade is not augmented he returns to his lifeless self. Taking three different coloured senbon out he stabs them into his own arm as the blood in his veins become visible and steam leaks from his mouth.

Chiyo desperately looks for the closest shadow to escape.

Cisco suddenly realized something pressing. The way he had to move in order to stay out his opponents sight was bringing him towards the front of the carriage. Not only could he be seen by the two others from that spot, but he would also be moving away from where the kid was hiding in the back of the carriage.

He made a hasty descision without thinking too long, brushing his foot against one of the spuds in the carriage-wheels by "accident". The nin on the other side audibly reacted, as Cisco could hear his opponents footsteps stop dead in their tracks. Cisco froze, trying to keep the enemy nin guessing. After a few seconds, the steps started again, and Cisco knew he had bought all the time he could.

He was visibly shaking at this point. Cisco was smart and knowledgeable about Shinobi warfare, exceedingly so after having re-taken the most basic classes time and time again. In theory, he was more than capable of handling most of the ninja currently on the field. In reality however, things played out a bit differently. He realized while he could come up with a statistically superior method of handling his opponent, forcing his body to move and his nerves to obey was a greater hurdle then he thought.

Even 5 full seconds after desciding his best course of action was to distract the enemy nin to give Chiyo and Hai more time, he still had not moved a single muscle.

Wait a second.... this guy is walking around in a hulking suit of metal, carrying to huge ass shields in the middle of the fucking desert..... isn't he hot?

A wide grin spread across Hai's face as he threw out his chains wrapping one around the giants arm and the other his leg. Maintaining as much distance as he can, pulling on the giant from behind he begins to channel his chakra into the chains.

The giant fights against the pulling succeeding in not falling back but neither can he turn to face Hai as the chains are pulled taught and a slight misstep will cause him to tumble down.

Slowly Hai's chains begin to turn a bright red looking colour and so is the giants armor. It may be only at the points of contact with the chain but ever so slowly the armor is beginning to heat up.

Smiling Wildly Hai decides to let slip a taunt,

"Is it just me or is it hot today?"

The suna-nin vanished with frightening speed. He appeared in front of Chiyo who raised both arms in front of her, still searching for a way out. He stomped down her defense with a kick sending her sprawling as her arms turned numb. Steam poured out of his mouth as he chased her down.

Unable to form a defense Chiyo was crushed by a weight on her chest, the suna-nin pressing his heel into her sternum. He looked at her as if she was an insect and then removed his foot only to replace it with a fist to her stomach. Chiyo spat bile onto herself and tried to curl into a ball but he pressed both hands down and stopped her. He sat on her to keep her still and moved her face up.

Straight left, straight right, left hook, right uppercut. Without emotion or remorse he worked methodically at beating her to death or unconsciousness, whichever came first.

Cisco couldnt fathom how he had placed himself in this situation, against a real shinobi whom he had no realistic hope of besting. It was an absurd idea, and he realized the reason he had not managed to move was that some deep dark part of him still believed it was a bad dream.

He asked himself when he would be satisfied enough to act. How long would it take him to come to terms with the fact that he was in a battle of life and death. He got the answer to his own question sooner than he thought, becouse as he slowly closed the venting valve on his steam tank in order to get ready, the enemy appeared before him beyond the speed at which Cisco could comprehend.

He didnt even react at first, as if his mind didnt believe his eyes and refrained from activating "Fight-or-Flight". Frankly he didnt actually perceive a danger at all, until the nin in front of him went for the hilt of his blade. The intant the bladewielding nin moved, Cisco did aswell, albeit instinctually.

Just as the enemys hand reached the hilt of his sword, his wrist was grasped by Ciscos left hand. In his panic to stop the impending attack, Cisco had defaulted to simply grabbing whatever part of his enemy he could. As he realized this, so did he realize that was completely open. Then enemy didnt allow this mistake to stand for long, and launched into a crouch before driving his right foot into Ciscos torso. Not able to react, Cisco felt his feet leave the ground as he was sent flying backwards slamming into the carriage.

The impact caused the steam tank on his back to begin shaking violently, before steadily releasing a continuous stream of steam from an overflow-valve on its side. It let off a sound like a teakettle when its boiling, as Cisco regained his compositure awaiting his opponents next strike any second.

Slowly but surely the struggling of the armored hulk began to die down as he faded into unconsciousness, the scorching heat of the suit wearing him down. Unwrapping the chain Hai turned to look around at how to others were fairing.

Cisco seemed to be doing fine, his tank whistling away which was never a good sign, or well it kinda was in fights?

Chiyo on the other hand was not faring so well, or rather was getting her ass beat.

Aiming a palm in the direction of the nin standing over top of her Hai fires off a blast aiming from their back around chest height.

"Red Flame Cannon!"

This time however instead of being golfball sized it was around the size of a tennis ball and zoomed towards the ninja's back.

The sun-nin seemed oblivious as Hai fired off his flame cannon. He took a direct hit knocking him off Chiyo as the smell of seared flesh entered the air.

Chiyo manages to activate a shadow step and disappears, sinking into the closest shadow.

Now missing his target the nin changes focus to Hai. A guttural yell resounds as he charges at him, without tactics or thinking. Only a mass of accelerated muscle, weaponized as all of his bodies limits are ignored.

The second Ciscos eyes refocused from the impact against the carriage(im just gonna start calling them Wagons from now on), the enemys blade was already moving. Once again Cisco didnt have time to react, but fortunately for him he didnt have to.

The enemy struck him blindly. And this is how Cisco learned the true value of deception, even accidental deception. Becouse as he closed his eyes in panic, expecting the sensation of cold steel tearing flesh, he felt a thud and heard a loud "ding" from his right side. Stunned, he realized his Steam Soldier suit had protected him against the strike.

He enemy was visibly shocked as his blade glanced off and recoiled back, shot out of the suit by the internal steam pressure, which was now dropping due to the cut where the blade had dug into it. Cisco only had pressurization for one move, and he didnt hesitate. With rapid motions, the same speed one would expect someone to form handseals, he flips a very spesific set of valves around the torso area of his suit and raised his knee to his face for a stomp.

"This is gonna suck...", was the last thought that went through his head before the hiss of released steam reverberated throughout the area. With a deep solid "Boom", every overflow-valve on his suit opened, releasing an explosion of steam.
"Vent: False Hidden Steam Technique!"

The enemy swordsman was thrown to the ground, rolling as he did his best to protect his face from the scalding heat. He rolled back into a standing stance, using his experience and movility to steal some of the momentum from the blast to return himself to a fighting stance. It worked, but as the thick steam now covered the area, he held off on his attack. As he pondered where Cisco had vanished, the sound of a summoning scroll found its way to his ears.

Hai grins as the nin charges towards him as he spots his opening. As the nin lunges in with a lightning fast strike, Hai swerves to the side just enough so that the lunge clices open the side of his midriff instead of piercing straight through.

In return Hai whips his right arm forward in a powerful uppercut, his fingers extended to form a pointed claw, the gauntlet glowing red hot as it pierces into the nin's stomach; the wound cauterizing as soon as it was given.

"Always go for the trade"

Hai grins and grabs the nin's insides with his burning hand and headbutts the nin into unconsciousness.

Chiyo manifests from Havoc's shadow now in her original form with no damage showing. She moves over to the unconscious nin, lifts his head up and slits his throat with her stiletto dagger.

"I did all the hard work," she told Havoc, "At full strength he would have murdered you in close combat."

Ignoring the ongoing fight she puts a hand to the dead nin and appears to peel a mask off which disappears into her shadow leaving a now faceless corpse behind.

The swordwielding nin was too late to react despite hearing the poof beforehand. The thick steam rendered him unable to notice the danger in time, becouse the moment it came into view it was already too late.

What came flying at him was a metal ball, spiked all around with some sort of pressure-meter stuck to its side. If the nin had a split second longer to observe the object, he would have seen the needle on the meter indicating an extreme internal pressure, but the device reacted before that could be discerned.

With a "pop" similiar to when a firecracker goes off, only louder, the device exploded in the nins face. The steel spikes being propelled from the shattered casing by the expanding steam inside, puncturing the nin randomly from head to toe. Making the device even crueler, the spikes themselves were hollow-pointed with a capped backside, meaning extracting them would create a vacuum inside the spikes causing them to "stick".

He hit the ground in shock before passing out from concussion, a side-effect of the device going off so close to his face, driving the spikes even deeper as he fell on them. He wouldnt die from this unless left unattended for days, which was unlikely considering the territory, but recovery would be slow and painful. As the steam cleared, the warm climate condensating the steam into dew which stuck to the grass and Ciscos clothes, he realized he was still alive. A somewhat positive turn of events, considering.

As he struggled against dizzyness, something he knew would happen, he heard Chiyo and Havoc talking over yonder.

Cisco did not see the events that transpired between Chiyo and Hai beforehand, so his reaction to Hais fishmouthing was that of ignorance. He blinked twice and looked at Chiyo whose hand was covered in blood for some "strange" reason. He figured she mustve completely schooled her foe, and that Hai was flabbergasted with amazement at her skills.

"Hah, seems like you guys will make worthwhile bodyguards!" He said, still excited from the battle he had just taken part in.

Outside sparring matches he had never fought for his life before, the feeling of having stood upon deaths door and lived was almost intoxicating. He caught himself actually feeling impatient, filled with expectation for when he would have to defend himself again so he could attempt to reproduce what he was currently feeling. His eyes were wide like someone who had just won the lottery, and he could not lower his pulse no matter what he tried. He wanted to scream "YEAH!!!" or something along those lines, but tried to keep himself contained for now.

It was then that he suddenly remembered the reason he had to fight in the first place, and turned to the kid in the carriage. Their eyes met as the boy was peeking out from behind a couple of wooden barrels, spying on his saviours. He was dressed much like any poor boy would be expected to; a david copperfield'ish look that was so retro it would actually have been pretty cool if it was actually intentional, which it obviously wasnt. The most stereotypical homeless orphanboy you could imagine, apart from a red scarf tied neatly around his left arm.

Ciscos eyes returned towards Hai, and almost as a joke he pointed towards the boy with a shaky finger almost like he was making fun of the way Hai had pointed to Chiyo a moment ago. The sheepish grin on his face confirmed this.

Chiyo looks between the two fish-people wondering if that was some kind of code.

"What the fuck are you two doing?"

She flicks the blood off her dagger and moves over to the unconscious man in heavy armor where she kneels looking for an opening in the metal to execute him.

With a quick and gruff.

"Humph"

Hai stalked off to the side and sat down, leaning his back against a rock and folding his arms across his chest.

Yes, he was sulking. But not really more trying to process that fact that Chiyo had just murdered and butchered someone and was actively trying to do it again. Now a good man would try to stop her but Hai was confused about what he should do in a situation like this.

The result, sit down and think and let everything else to everyone else.

Cisco was a bit surprised that they left the kid to him. But as he was the one who wanted to go balls to the wall in order to save him in the first place, perhaps it was fitting. As such he strode over to the carriage, in which the kid was observing intently with a look of curiosity and a dose of healthy sceptisism.

"You alright?" he asked as casually as he could, trying not to scare him. The boy however was more amazed than scared.
"You totally beat them up!" He said excitedly, luckily not seeing the face-ripping event earlyer. Lest he would probably be traumatized for life.

Cisco smiled and looked over at Hai and Chiyo. "They did most of the heavy lifting boy, i just crashed into things and almost blew myself to pieces." He said in an almost fatherly tone, not unlike how he usually spoke but it would seem he didnt bother speaking any less sternly to a child.

The kid looked like the reply lowered his guard, as a huge smile appeared on his face.
"Thanks!" He said, almost shouted, in order for Hai and Chiyo to hear it aswell. "I'm Baux!"

As soon as the kid said his name, Ciscos face went through a full spectre of emotions. Amusement, followed by a realization. Then sceptisism, before finally landing on a satisfied smile and a triumphant chuckle.
"You would'nt happen to be from the village hidden in the sand by any chance? I'm Cisco by the way, and those two are called Hai and Chiyo."

Baux nodded in confirmation of Ciscos suspicion (i cant english today, forgot how that word is written). Before turning towards Hai and Chiyo, waving in excited greeting like only a kid could.

Wrapping up his banter with Baux, Cisco excused himself for a minute while Baux gathered his things from the carriage. He went over to Hai and Chiyo and spoke softly before Baux could catch up.

"I think we just hit the jackpot guys. If i'm right, our mission just became a whole lot easyer for everyone involved."

Chiyo grinned as she found an angle in his helmet that would let her dagger slip in.

"Mission? You mean this isn't the mission?"

After aligning the dagger she slipped it into his helmet before removing a red blade. Chiyo frowned, realizing she had no way to remove his face for a mask with his helmet still on. She had gotten caught up in the fun of finding a weak spot and lost sight of the objective.

Baux looked to join the trio only to freeze in the distance when he saw Chiyo pull the man's helmet off, as an explosion of gore covered her in blood. Instead of reacting to the mess Chiyo just claimed the face and stowed the fresh mask in a pouch. When she looked up she noticed Hai and Cisco staring at her.

"Uh.... The Mission?" she ventured, hoping to put things back on track.

The gaping fish mouth had gone but was left with a deep concentrated stare as Hai continued to watch Chiyo work. And by work I mean brutally murdering and tearing off someones face.

It had become no less unsettling for Hai and he was in a moral dilema as to whether or not he should do something about her habit of face stealing or simply ignore it as one of her quirks.

Hai was so deep in thought he fact he had no clue as to anything else hat was happening unless it involved chiyo.

Baux was left shocked to the bone, as Cisco didnt have time to cover his eyes to the gruesome sight. He stood there for a moment in silence before brutally throwing up on the ground.

"Damnit, look at what you've done now" Cisco said to Chiyo, while rubbing Baux's back.

As chiyo brought the focus back on the mission, Cisco merely resigned to it. He didnt feel like exploring the reasons for Chiyos wierd habits right now, but knew he would have to ask sooner or later.
"Yes, the mission. I think this dude might be related to Chrome. I'm sure he'll be glad to have him back, if we ever make it to Suna"

"What? I didn't do that. I can't make people throw up at will." Chiyo says defensively. "It's not my fault he has a weak stomach."

Chiyo appeared to reach behind her to grab hold of her shadow and started to wrap herself in an inky darkness which faded to reveal hey body and clothes clean .

"Why are we going to Suna again? I mean, high face density I get that. But I don't think I get the whole mission part. Also, what's a chrome?"

Looking at Cisco with mild disgust she makes sure to note.

"I am not helping him up. He stinks."
