Haven't seen the film but well it will be quite tough even with the hype to get nominated for the Oscars since they have a hard competition this time.

If funmation had waited to release it next year, they would actually have a pretty good chance of being nominated with no Disney and just one pixar film being the competition. But this year their going against Ghibli, Laika, and a double slate for disney, as well as an unprecedented four GKids offerings. They have no chance

I think Kimi no na wa. actually has a pretty good chance of getting at least an Oscar nomination.

There are three slots we all pretty much know have the nomination without a doubt: Zootopia, Finding Dory, and Kubo and the Two Strings. The fourth slot could go to Moana, The Secret Life of Pets, or Sausage Party...I don't see them nominating an animated film for the fifth slot that only got okay-to-good reviews, and there's usually at least one foreign animation title. This would make Kimi no na wa. an obvious choice.

LOL,the chances are very low and probably pretty colors alone won't fetch it a nomination.
Red turtle is more deserving than this and it's also co-produced by studio ghibli.

Pets and Sausage Party have 0% chance of getting nominated. Finding Dory is only 50/50 due to it being forgettable and uninspired, as well as caring around the stigma of not being as good as Finding Nemo.

Zootopia, Kubo, and Red Turtle are practically locks, with Moana looking to be as well.

So the real competition for Your Name will be against those vying for the last slot, namely all 4 of GKIDS offerings (Miss Hokusai, April and the Extraordinary World, and My Life as a Courgette). My Life as a Courgette has the most chance for being stop motion and Switzerland's foreign language entree (more likely to actually be watched).

My guess would be 15-20% for Your Name getting a nomination.

Have you seen The Red Turtle?

Also, if the art is the only thing going for it, then why is the novelization of the film one of the highest selling in all time in Japan?

Red turtle is a piece of disappointment even most Japanese people agree with me XD.
