With the theme of this month being Halloween, what is the scariest anime you have ever seen?

I have read some scary manga before, but I have never seen a scary anime. I'd be interested in hearing some opinions.

Clannad. Those giant eyes feel like they're going to suck out my soul.

Shifting into serious mode for a moment, I haven't seen any anime I'd genuinely consider "scary." Plenty that are disturbing, but none that are genuinely terrifying.

Closest I've ever gotten is... Tokyo Ghoul, I guess, for the freakier, more demented parts involving ravenous ghouls. Or maybe Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc for leaving me highly unsettled for two days straight. Probably one of those two.
Important Note: I no longer - in any way, shape, or form - consider myself a moral nihilist (even in my old, convoluted definition of the term). I very much do believe there is such a thing as objective good and evil. In addition, I apologize for any of the posts I've made that are rude, aggressive, or otherwise unbecoming.

I've always striven to walk a path befitting a follower of Christ, and now recognize some of my old comments here as misguided if not outright wrong. If you happen upon them, pray do not let them darken your view of the God I serve. He is kind, even if I, at times, have not been.

Same as you i've never found any anime that i would considered as scary. . . Most of them are just show with tiny mount of gore scenes. . . Some of them even aren't something i would clasify as horror. I think the best anime that i would clasify as horror that i've seen is Yami Shibai. . . Sadly it was so short, only 5 minutes each episodes, and different episode tell different story. . . You may want to check it out. . .

Boku no Pico was definitely scary. Gave me nightmares and now I always doubt whether a character is truly female

I haven't really tackled many of the creepy and/or scary anime out there, but I did just finish the Aoi Bungaku Series. I will say that a couple of the stories in that anime both creeped me the hell out and gave me the feels. I can't say I have watched anything like it before.

Aku no Hana (Flowers of Evil). Not scary in the monsters/gore sense (which I don't find scary at all) just a creepily accurate, psychological trip through the mind of a smart, lonely highschool kid with a crush. Definitely gave me some serious chills!

Well maybe I'm just scared easily but I think there are a decent amount of scary anime. Monster scared me pretty bad at times but I only got halve way through. Mainly because the antagonist seemed kind of godlike. Steins;gate and Madoka magica aren't really the scariest but not knowing where the story was headed kind of scared me more than blood or guts tend to. Also Baccano and HxH didn't scare me but I think they had their scary moments. Again I don't watch horror movies or do haunted houses so I know I'm not the bravest with the horror genre.

The scariest anime I've seen on the whole would definitely have to be Higurashi but the scariest thing in anime, as far as I'm concerned, would have to be the mushroom episode of Samurai Champloo.

I haven't been truly frightened by a anime before but watching higurashi at night time did get me tense since the op and anime mood really works well when in a dark room alone. Higurashi is one of those anime for me where I think that I woulnt get into it if I watched it during the day.

Perfect blue is teninly anime I've found scary. A few parts of Shinsekai Yori were pretty creepy as well, but that's probably because I was watching it alone, in the dark, in a house in the middle of the woods.

TBFH anime is not scary. Like at all. The closest one for me to being called 'scary' is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.

Well, so far i never see any anime that topped Yami Shibai in those category, so i guess that would be the scariest anime that i've ever watched..

This guy here gets it. Horror movies like Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween are lighthearted SoL series compared to this horrible piece of trash that shouldn't even exist in the world of shitty shows. Is it even an anime? Because I sure as hell wouldn't even classify is a thing. Pure horror material!

It's the character design that has you let your guard down. They all look like "Yu-Gi-Oh!" rejects. But I wasn't fooled, I've read enough Stephen King to know what happens when something strange is going down in a small town. That being said, I still jumped when

"Another" was scary in the context of "Final Destination". I know something bad is gonna happen, just a variable of time.

"Corpse Party: Tortured Souls" bothered me. Especially the

But, I gotta say "Higurashi" was the scariest because of the confusion it inspired as well.

Makura no Danshi.
Absolutely mortifying.

(Horror anime simply aren't scary. Horror books aren't scary, either. They can be "creepy", but perhaps the only really "scary" things are movies.)

Perfect Blue is probably the only anime that has made me feel genuinely creeped out throughout the entire film and even made me jump in a scene or two. Incredible direction and tone.

Higurashi was indeed creepy and even shocking, however was ruined by the SoL scenes repeated at the beginning of each arc. The animation is also unbearable at times.

Corpse Party no doubt. That's the only anime that has legitimately scared me. The game is much better though.
