| So I recently got some Japanese mangas to help me learn Japanese however i'm unsure of how I read them as in do I read the characters left to right? or do I read them right to left? Because they go like this (# is a character) ### ### ## # Going down. Not sure if you guys know what I'm trying to say but thanks if you can help! ^_^ |

^ Correct way of reading if it's written vertically, if it's written horizontal, then it's 1 2 3 4 Also a huge tip. Start by learning the whole alphabet by heart, Hiragana and Katakana - then have a word book beside you. If you're really dedicated, get a text + work book and learn proper grammar, numbers, clock, etc (Genki 1 + 2 is what I rec.) - everything written there is a huge help to understand Japanese. |

| Sometimes it actually can be 4 3 2 1 when written horizontally, like if it's an old style sign at a festival. Here is an example: http://crablogger.cocolog-nifty.com/photos/uncategorized/2008/01/18/ebisu01.jpg You won't encounter this kind of writing often, but it's good to know that it exists. |
