Nurse, Bunny, Nun, Cat, any number of cartoon characters/kids story characters/video game characters/toy line, Cop, Zombie, Witch, Firefighter, Schoolgirl, Indian/Native American, Dog, and on and on and on. I've seen that kind of sentence here and there lately and I still fail at seeing how this is even an argument to begin with. Making a costume vaguely inspired by a culture doesn't mean that you're reducing a culture to a costume. Muslims wearing a burka aren't considering that their culture and religion is defined by "wearing a burka". They're not wearing a burka thinking that they're defining their culture wearing it, and the peoples making the burkas don't think they're defining the culture either. ....At least I hope they don't. So why should a costume made for having fun suddenly be trying to define the whole culture it's inspired from? Catholics don't seem to have a problem with this, as shown by links in the thread. Also, sexy nuns costume were definitely sexier than sexy burka costume, so Catholics 2 - 0 Muslims |
