I feel like anime are cartoons inspired by Japanese animation techniques or culture, like avatar the last air bender, Batman the Animated Series and Samurai Jack Avatar with clear strong anime influence as far character designs and animation style Samurai Jack through Samurai and Japanese culture, the animation it self is meant to look like an old Japanese painting And Batman the animated series because it was actually animated by a Japanese studio and there are many Japanese animators that actually had a big role in directing certain episodes |

| I dont get why people make such a big deal about what's anime and what's not. Anime is simply short for animation because they don't have a word for cartoon. So technically all cartoons are also anime in the eyes of the Japanese. |

| No, it was created by Americans for American audiences, influenced doesn't make something a part of the specific subsection of animation. To do a more extreme comparison it would be like saying Kill Bill is a Japanese film because there is a portion heavily inspired by samurai and Japanese settings. |
