I don't understand this though , why do I have this hate for yuri but fangirl over yaoi?it seriously is turning me on and I don't even like guys at all let alone seeing them naked it seems to me that yuri isn't really made for lesbians not only that I hate the voices that sounds like lolli girls , aren't there any yuri anime with mature relationship where I can giddy over like I do with yaoi ? for me the high school setting of yuri is a turn off , although im not asking for recomendations + I didn't really try to watch yuri fully and didnt really glance at it since I kinda became addicted to yaoi recently most of the plots sounds weird to me I didn't find anything serious other then perverted girls lol

I hate reading manga's to the core but somehow just SOMEHOW since I ran out of yaoi anime I couldn't help myself but download some yaoi manga's currently im still downloading them and was wondering why so I came here and ask

anyone else having this problem?

like lesbians that like yaoi and not yuri or maybe gay's liking yuri but not yaoi (but I highly doubt gays will dislike yaoi manga , even if they do they won't like yuri either (might be wrong though I shouldn't label it like that)

it's because you like the storylines of yaoi series better. there are way more BL manga out there in every genre/premise whilst yuri is much limited. (even yuri fans can agree with this, y'all have less manga)

@EcchiLordMamster

I agree with you but I don't like that to much , if it has a great plot that happens to have ecchi in it why not even if it's a hentai with great plot also why not

I was watching "sensetive pornograph" but there was no plot I felt weird afterwards I tought it was a simple yaoi turned out to be just ...well stupid of me to not sense the word "pornograph" in the title lol

you don't have to feel bad. i know straight girls who like yuri more than yaoi. it's nothing weird.

or boys who like shoujo over other demographics.

Crap I was so busy with shitposting I forgot to say that there are actually some good yuri manga, well, I haven't read them myself lol, I only just started reading manga

I can't name the titles myself, I know that there is one person on MAL who knows a lot of them but I can't recall her (or his cannot remember) name.

Edit: her actually, I remember Lady in her username, you know who you are show yourself and put her on the right path.

Nah man, there's nothing wrong with your situation. Maybe the reason why you like yaoi more is b/c of the way that it's portrayed? Like shonen ai tends to be way more varied than the basic high school shoujo ai relationships (which get rly boring after a while).

Also yuri tends to be more "male gaze-esque" so I can see how that would be a huge turn off.

If I may, yaoi and yuri represents different types of relationships, yaoi presents an idealized type, whereas yuri(the soft one) is more of a subtle approach, and the hardcore is more physical.
Perhaps this is one of the reasons why. (Plus seme voices are effeminate as well)

@MugiwaraLuFFya

There is different rules:
1. Yuri and yaoi anime suck in comparison of their manga equivalent.
2. Most yuri anime are conceived toward male demographics, and the ones toward famale demographics aren't conceived for lesbian either. Yuri manga are more female-oriented and there is some of them that are oriented toward lesbians.
3. In the modern days, anime is full of loli-moe girls. Thus most modern yuri anime are also full of loli-moe girls.
4. @BRB-kun is right as a general rule. Yaoi and yuri aren't exactly the same.

If you want to try non-loli/moe yuri anime and non-perverted girls, you can check old yuri shōjo anime, like Oniisama e or Utena. Though both are set in high-school and I'm not sure you'll like them at all. But at least they are anime for girls, non-loli and non-perverted.

Or, try the two horror yuri anime: Mnemosyne and Devilman Lady. They're both with adult, bisexual MC (but the main lover is also a girl). Though the romance is pretty light (it is a side-element) and it's ero-guro, meaning fucked-up perverted stuffs.

I started reading manga because I finished all interesting yuri anime too. Now I prefer manga and nearly don't watch anime anymore.

If you want to try yuri manga someday:
Honey & Honey is an autobiographical work from the mangaka. It could be interesting for you, in order to glimpse the similarities and the differences of "being a lesbian" between Japan and Europe.

Ebine Yamaji's works are quite good, Free Soul is usually considered as her best work.
Then you have stuffs like Octave, Omoi Kakera or Philosophia. They're considered as realistic yuri manga.

Girl Friends recommended by @Ethereal_Vanilla is a sensible romance, but expect cute loli. From what I understand the mangaka is fantasizing her own schools days through her manga.
Akiko Morishima's works such as Hanjuku Joshi are also quite appreciated by lesbians readers. But expect both loli and perverseness.

Wow really?The more you know I guess.

So now now.Thing is:
The target audience of yaoi->Females
The target audience of yuri->Males.

I don't think being gay or lesbian change this fact as we can see.

Because yaoi is primarily targeting a female audience while a lot of yuri is targeting a male audience

There ARE yuri for lesbians/bisexual women but they're kind of hard to find since both "male lesbian manga" and "female lesbian manga" are labelled as simply "yuri" (unlike "female gay manga" and "male gay manga" which are labelled as two separate genres, yaoi and bara) which is why I prefer yaoi over yuri (I'm saying this as a bisexual woman by the way)

There's nothing wrong with you preferring yaoi over yuri despite being a lesbian

This is plain wrong. There is yuri designed for men and for women, in a somewhat similar proportion. And historically speaking, yuri is also a female genre; during decades you only found yuri in shōjo and josei magazines, yuri in shōnen/seinen magazines is a more recent development, that have ~25 years (during the 1990s), while the first (modern) yuri in a shōjo magazine was published in 1971.

I'm also talking about today standard.
Yuri Hime, the main yuri magazine, is targeted more toward women than men. In fact the current Yuri Hime magazine is the old Yuri Hime magazine (a shōjo/josei magazine) that absorbed Yuri Hime S (a shōnen/seinen magazine). Meaning that the female magazine was more successful than the male one.

When I said "somewhat similar proportion", I meant that the male/female ratio is slightly toward female.

If there is more yuri anime for male than yuri anime for female, it's only because of moe-blobs and cute loli, thus more otaku-pandering.

In general Yaoi is supposed to appeal to girls, you being gay doesn't really change the fact that they might just be more appealing to you. Maybe try out some yuri manga and see what you're opinion is afterward. I heard citrus is good.

well the reason is that the guys in yaoi act, and look, like girls. i, thank god, don't know any homosexuals in real life, but i doubt that yaoi is an acurat portrayal of gay couples.

I face the same dilemma too, OP. I hate to say this, but I prefer Yaoi over Yuri even though I prefer girls in real life. I think it's also the fact that the Yuri genre is not as wide-ranged as Yaoi, which is a shame. Because there's such a large circle of BL enthusiasts, this means that more Yaoi mangaka and thus more "good" manga being produced. In my experience, the accessibility of Yaoi is easier than Yuri and so I have spent more of my time reading BL manga.

Aside from hentai Yuri, most Yuri have the tendency of having a sweet, gentle romance between the characters. Sure I do like Yuri, but why read stories with a repetitive pattern when there is the "opposing" genre that has drama, rivaling love interests, etc. I'm not saying Yaoi has a more realistic take on homosexual relationships and Yuri isn't either.

I do have a theory in why I prefer Yaoi over Yuri. It's because of the bishounen characters. At times, they tend to look feminine and I seem to have an attraction for them. I often look at them and compare them to my favourite real-life females, and I see a similarity. They're seriously questioning my sexuality all the time, it's infuriating.

edit: Yuri manga that appears in some Josei magazines are quite nice, especially as it features older female characters. It's not centered in a high school, that is a plus, and their relationships are taken quite seriously - which is what some high school yuri fails to do.

While Yaoi is oriented for females, Yuri is oriented for males. As a female, it logical to love things oriented to females. They probably know to touch the "soft spots" of a girl, which stay the same despite their sexual orientation.

By the way: There's something like yaoi but for gays. So maybe there's something like this with Yuri as well.

Did you try yuri manga?
Sadly, there's not a lot of variety in yuri anime and alot are aimed towards men and/or only subtext, but there's much more variety in manga.

Yaoi, on the other hand, has many different genres in both, so I can see how you would like yaoi anime more. Plus yaoi is usually more explicit about the fact that they are actually in a relationship and less only subtext or fan service like many yuri anime. When I run out of interesting yuri anime, I was thinking about trying some yaoi anime as well.

If you want to give yuri another try though, here are some I enjoyed that broke away from the typical high school fluff romance or implied subtext or fan service:
Akuma no Riddle (lesbian assassins)

Blue Drop: Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku(lesbian aliens)

Kannazuki no Miko aka Destiny of the Shrine Maiden (mecha, supernatural, star-crossed lovers, etc.)

Kyoushirou to Towa no Sora aka Shattered Angels (Yuri is not the main focus, but if you end up liking Kannazuki no Miko, this anime has two side characters that are basically another version of the main characters of KnM.)
(Mecha, supernatural, romance, etc.)

Re: Cutie Honey (Well, it does have alot of ecchi in it, but there is a romance between Honey and the cop that's a really good story.)
(androids, super hero, etc.)

Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito (supernatural, sci-fi, action/adventure,etc.)

Yuri Kuma Arashi (lesbian bears who can turn into humans) ( It's kind of dark and depressing though and the first 3 eps just seem like fan service, but if you watch from episode 4, it becomes a romance story about a star-crossed love between one of the bears and a human.)

Here's my full list here of all yuri anime where they actually kiss that has links to more info about the series I mentioned above and more:
https://myanimelist.net/animelist/caninesrock?status=7&tag=kiss

Hope this helps.
