I only recently bought a PS4 but between Modern Warfare, Skyrim and the Arkham games being remastered I don't think I'll be purchasing anything "new" for quite a while.

Do you think these remastered games are worth buying if you've played the originals or are they simple cash-grabs? How do you feel about remastered games in general?

Well they are cash-grabs and most of the time you only buy a remastered version if you played the original, or because you wanted to try the game but you diden't like the outdated graphics of the original.

Hnng you made me want to have a remastered version of Golden Sun :s

It just goes to show how hollow this generation of games is compared to the last three.

It's only worth it if you don't have the first version or they come with proper fixes on bugs, game engine issues and whatever else there is while being discounted if you already own the first version - otherwise nah not really.

Consoles ditched backwards compatibility so more choices is fine by me (though Xb is working on its solution). And they usually come with all the DLC so, to me, it's the same as waiting for a complete edition. Still, only ones I have bought are TLOU and Metro Redux, since I didn't play them originally, and both were excellent.

The only other one I am planning on getting is Gravity Rush, which I've always been interested in, and now want to try because the sequel is coming and they both look so cool.

While I'm definitely getting the Skyrim remaster, I'll probably wait it out on the AC Ezio Trilogy. I literally just replayed it a few months ago and I'm sure by the next time I'm in the mood for it, it'll be in the bargain bin.

As for remasters in general, I'm not too bothered by them considering I don't play that much anymore. If anything, it's nice to be able to play some of my favorites with the current times instead of watching some of them resign to the passage of time, shrug my shoulders, and never see it again.

Cash grabs but I'm a PC gamer so the remasters for games like Bioshock and Skyrim, I'm getting them for free.

Remaster = waste of money. Unless you don't have the original console or that stuff, what's the point of buying a remaster?

The last generation had a lot of remasters. Remasters this gen have been higher quality.

Oh god, I would want this so much.

But with Konami right now, I can only see Suikoden pachinko.

Remastered games make sense if you never got the chance to play the original. Or maybe its been years and you want to experience the game again, but with better visuals and improved gameplay.

Beyond that I don't see the point.

I got the bioshock 1 and 2 remaster as well as the titan quest anniversary edition for free already, as I understand I'll get the Skyrim remaster for free as well. What is there not to like.
They make the game better and you don't pay more if you already bought the game. That's like a nice present from the devs, I see no problem here x).

Good: FFVII remake and Resident Evil 2 remake. Games that would benefit from it.
Bad: Skyrim, FFX, COD, Halo, etc. Games that don't really need it.

Remakes are different from remasters.

And the FFX remaster was the best thing ever. No more grinding and shitty encounter rate.

Call me ignorant, but I don't understand why someone would want to re-buy a last-gen game on a current-gen console. I'd rather experience something new or at least wait for a proper sequel.

Fun fact: I call my left hand the remasturbator.

I say most of all remaster are cash grab but some game can be added with a feature like Hyperdimension rebirth series.

Unless I'm mistaken about the rebirth series.

Except for PS owners. They get the middle finger.

What was wrong with Halo remaking games from 2001 and 2004?

Well as a PC player I get some remasters for free (Skyrim, Titan Quest etc.) So that's fine. I would have loved for developers to spend more time on new games, but they can do what they want. And when it comes to older games like FF7 I can see why it would have value.

The Skyrim remaster looks good, and appearantly it will be able to support more complicated mods or whatever so that's cool, though I personally would have preferred it if they remastered one of the older games in the series like Morrowind or Oblivion.

A lot of remasters are cash grabs, but considering how many fans keep yammering on about wanting them I can see why companies do it.

that sucks, but then again none of those remaster are a necessity to enjoy the original game.

A lot of times, the current gen version works far better and brings in good improvements. Look at The last of us and shadow of the colossus.

But it really didn't much other then that, sure its now the version people should be buying but I think other games should of been first before FFX. Now FFXII is getting one...which even more so doesn't need a reboot.

Thoughts? Well, good for me if it comes to a game I didn't have already like The Witch and the Hundred Knight which I bought recently for the PS4, otherwise I don't care buying them and doing so only serves for more companies like SE to keep lazing around instead of actually releasing new games.

FF8, not only could it get a remaster but also fix the terrible combat system.

That would turn it into a remake though.

And the PC port is technically a remaster. The game was updated with boosters and actually has HD mods now.

The Turok remaster was pretty good, mostly because they fixed the framerate issues.

I've never played a remake/remaster game. I am looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII remake though, as a final fantasy fan who has never played the original ^^

I have a feeling their going to be two completely different games. So I do recommend playing the original first.
