It was announced at the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival 2016 held today that light novel Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho will receive a TV anime adaptation for Spring 2017. The cast and staff members have also been announced.

Cast
Zero: Yumiri Hanamori (Anne_Happy♪)
Mercenary: Tsuyoshi Koyama (Utawarerumono Itsuwari no Kamen)
Albus: You Taichi (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Diamond wa Kudakenai)

Staff
Director: Tetsuo Hirakawa (Assistant Director of Aku no Hana)
Character Design: Ryousuke Kimiya (Animation Director of Hataraku Maou-sama!), Daisuke Mataga (Sakasama no Patema)
Studio: White Fox

Synopsis
It was the year 526. The world knew that witches existed, and that they practiced the notorious art of sorcery. Nevertheless, the world did not know anything about the study of magic.

Our story follows a half-man, half-beast mercenary; humans mockingly call his kind the "fallen beasts." He always dreamt of becoming a human, but one day, he met a witch who would change his life forever.

"Do you desire a human form? Then be my escort, mercenary!"

The witch introduced herself as "Zero," and explained that she was searching for a one-of-a-kind magical tome that bandits had stolen from her lair. Entitled "The Book of Zero," the grimoire supposedly contained valuable magical knowledge that could be used to effortlessly bring the world to its knees.

Thus, in order to realize his dream of becoming a human, the mercenary must accompany Zero on her journey—despite her being one of the witches he so loathed.

This is the story of a haughty sorceress and a kindhearted beast.

Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho is written by Kakeru Kobashiri and illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma. It has been publishing under the Dengeki Bunko label since February 2014 and currently has 7 volumes in print. The series won the Grand Prize at the 20th Dengeki Novel Awards in 2013. A manga adaptation drawn by Takeshi Iwasaki has been serializing in Dengeki Maoh magazine since December 2014. Kadokawa has published four volumes of the manga with the latest released on August 9. A spin-off drawn by Yasuoka has also been serializing on the same magazine since October 2015 with the first volume scheduled to be released on October 8.

For a moment I thought this is a prequel of RE:Zero or something about the jealous witch since white fox is doing this but I was disappointed!

'Zero kara' is a pretty common Japanese phrase, especially for adventure games and fiction, as it means starting from level 1 with no equipment, ReZero tried to make it into a pun by using Re: to make it seem like a text as well as meaning Reincarnation.

It sounds like it could be good, I'll check it most likely.

Oh dear. Here we go again with the industry's obsession with the word "Zero".

The sypnosis is very interesting and I'm smelling some budding romance from it. I'm definitely gonna watch this.

Shit, I thought it's Re:Zero too.
But damn it, White Fox was also the studio.
Is this a coincidence or what? Anyway, maybe I'll watch this.

I heard pretty good things abt this, that it provides social commentary on the pressing issues these days. Looking forward to it, hope it's at least better than re zero.

More importantly that means s; g 0 further delayed.

Another "Zero Kara Hajimeru" anime from White Fox...I'll probably check it out when Spring arrives.

Not gonna lie, I thought this was going to be Re:Zero S2 announcement. I'm a bit glad it wasn't, although I'd like one, I don't think I'm ready for that torrential shitstorm to start up again just yet.
I'm no special story or anything. I'm just a manga that wants to be read, like you could find anywhere. But, if, for argument's sake, you were to adapt me into an anime series, it would certainly be....a tragedy.

I knew this would have loads of posts about Re:Zero... What with the titles being relatively similar. The series started their light novel releases at much the same time - if they had started a bit further apart then I might have got them confused at first myself.

Anyway, I will watch this and I would be surprised if I didn't like it.

Literally judging a book by its cover. Well done. Eh well - your loss.

This sounds all right, but I can't say I'm overly convinced. I'll wait until it airs and see what people think of it then before deciding whether to watch it or not.

Another 'Zero' anime, great...
I'm more pissed though with the fact that White Fox studio decided to animate this in the Spring 2017 season instead of Steins;Gate 0, whose adaption has been greenlit since March 2015 and Steins;Gate 0 is currently placed 4th in the 'Top Upcoming Anime' Section on MyAnimeList. This means that Steins;Gate 0 has been delayed again. Great.

Rather excited for this as adventure fantasy light novel adaptations are White Fox's strength. Will most probably be 2-cour with 7 volumes already out.

ANN's synopsis sounds much better:

The "grimoire fantasy" series follows a witch named Zero who is ignorant of the world and a half-beast half-human mercenary who longs to be human. Witches who practice sorcery exist in the world, however, in this era no one knows how about the art and study of witchcraft. Zero is going on a journey to search for a magical tome called "The Book of Zero" that hides a power that can destroy the world. The mercenary travels with her as her guard.

Jesus, has it been that long already?
I am also pretty sad and mad about the fact that it's taking AGES for the S;G 0 adaptation to start airing, but at least they're giving me more time to finish the VN, hehe.

"Light Novel 'Zero kara Hajimeru'" then, is it a prequel of Re:Zero? Lol that was literally my reaction when I read that, and it was under White Fox adaptation again. White Fox is burning with Zero, including S;G Zero.

Oh no, it was delayed? I'm hyping for nothing for S;G0. Please they need to focus on that.

We have not heard of S;G0 for a loong since now. IT is safe to assume WF decided that it would be more profitable stomping out generic isekai LN adaptations every season now than to work on actually good and creative things(I don't blame them considering how overrated by mainstream ReZero ended up being). I can't wait till people start touting this as "deconstruction" and "aoty" and all the other crap.

Almost same title with same reactions huh? I'll just wait if this is worth the delay of S;G0 since I thought I was just waiting for a BD release for subs until this news came to me.

If anything S;G was quite boring so i am glad i dont have to watch S;G0 (but unfortunately i must, and since the original was rated that high so it must be good...well nope)
I will take isekai genre anime anyday of week over S;G shit

i'm really curious about S;G 0 anime, since i heard they make it alongside visual novel. and yeah, no news for anime up to now but VN is out and i already know the story so nothing to worry about it. if its really delayed its news to me.

I was surprised by the news. It turns out I am not the only one who thought Re;Zero from the title :p Although this begs the question: does White Fox have a thing for the word zero, considering Re:0 and SG;0?

Nobody actually cares about this series isn't there.
