Falling in love with a dead historical figure/person.

Lately I've been contemplating the idea of one falling in love with a dead person, not that I myself have fallen in love with such, I've just been thinking about it.

The idea came from the observation of some people's undying love to their Waifus/Husbandos, and there was that one guy who married that anime character, so surely he must of felt something.

With a historical figure, you could be exposed to them on multiple levels, different interpretations of their actions, their lives, their aspirations, dreams; ect. You could gather an incredibly deep understanding of the person, but equally you could get a warped impression, it's a bit interesting.

I just think the idea is terribly melancholic and bittersweet, and I dunno, I guess I enjoy thinking about things that elicit those feelings. You have feelings for someone who can never reciprocate those feelings back, but it's worse because they're dead.

Anyway, what do you think? Can you fall in love with a dead person? Or to make it a little more on topic, can you really fall in love with your Waifu, do you know anyone who has?

Oh, and also, don't make this about necrophilia, fambo. :3

I'd argue Hitler looked just as sexy. Maybe even better with his 1/4 mustache.

How would you not fall for Lewis Powell. His mugshot looks like he could be on a Hollister bag.

It's pretty amazing that this image is from 1865 IIRC; he looks so... contemporary.

What counts as 'historical'? I know there's a serial killer fandom on Tumblr that claim to all be in love with Jeffrey Dahmer.

Well, 'historical' figures are usually not ordinary people. They must have done something extraordinary to be known after their death, right? I think it is not 'falling in love' with that person, but admiring them. At least that's the case with me.

Hey fam, this ain't about me. I was just thinking about the Neutral Milk Hotel album In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, and how it's dedicated to Anne Frank and all. Obviously Jeff Magnum felt something for the girl, probably not sexual, but ye.

i'd reccomend Amy Winehouse. I'm sure many people think she's nasty but I think she's hot.

Seriously though, honestly? How do you fall in love with someone you don't even know on a personal level besides reading their life summary on Wikipedia? the stuff that passes as "love" in this day of age is stupidly hilarious

The waifu way is the only way.

Really, though? I could see myself admiring someone dead for their accomplishments or something, but would I fall in love with them? No.

I'm lonely, but not desperate to find something to cherish.

I've always thought of it kinda like how people think celebrities are hot
cause that's essentially what they are (or were)
but they're dead

But Caligula's my husbando, I wouldn't say I love him, but it's definitely an obsession.

I am wholly convinced that Glenn Beck is in love with George Washington. He hangs his picture in that dumb fake Oval Office studio of his so you see it at every camera angle and every politician he looks up to (Ted Cruz) is always comparable to his man of principles and honor, Washington.

I don't think dating is the end goal for people like this, lol.

But on-topic, I can't say I've fallen in love with anyone historical, myself. I guess I've found actresses extremely attractive in movies that came out before I was born, but I'm not convinced that's the same thing.

I can crush on, and be especially charmed by a waifu, but it never extends to the point that I would say I fell for them either. Like, if anything, I might see a really cute anime girl with a great personality and be like, "yo, that's the kind of person I'm looking for", but actually pledging myself to the character herself?

I just can't see it happening.

Even if they were actually living beings, they have their own lives and shit, and usually their own love interests. It's all the stuff that happens to the character that makes them so appealing in the first place, right? So how could someone wish for his waifu to come to laifu and take away all the things that make them a great character?

Idek, man. I-D-E-K.

I'm completely enthralled with a very evil historical figure. I fear I am falling in love with People's Temple cult leader Jim Jones, This man had a sweet side that was extremely loving, affectionate and devoted but his evil side was that of the demon personified. On one hand he was brilliant, profound, discerning, yet he was also very manipulative, malicious and maniacal. He suffered from a eventually devastating insanity but at his core he was more perceptive than anyone on this earth. Being a person who's evaded suicidal urges most of my life, I feel a connection to his thought process that very few if anyone can understand. I don't condone the evil he did nor do I esteem him because of it. It just that he has all the evil in him that's missing in me but we still come to the same conclusion. He was basically an atheist but also knew that people who couldn't "see through things" the way some can need to believe in something.
Someone when I can't sleep I lay in bed and listen to his sermons and they take the urges away for a while. I am well aware that it's sick, twisted and wrong but i'm just magnetized to it. I suppose that's how some of his most devout followers felt.

hmm hitler-sama so hot

No but more seriously I actually knew girls in high school (history freaks, actually) who had the hot for dead german pilots. They were sharing pictures and stuff, and one of them even had one at her lockscreen. And it was only a rumor but apparently one of them even got a date with the family of one of them.
Yea my high school days were wild.

Maybe not Jeff Magnum the person, but I'd argue that the album is very much about someone with an odd and perverted love for Anne Frank. I think that's what's really strange and dark about it. It fits though, because Anne Frank's diary is very much about a girl's experience with adolescence and accompanying sexual thoughts, which provides a human/personal insight into a historical event that can sometimes feel quite distant.

huh really such thing exist? I can't even imagine how would that feel lol it's weird
the waifu thing already seems too much to shallow for me and I'm still not sure if it's a joke or not.. it's kinda sad if people really find such deep attraction to unreal characters they never got from real people

People fall in love with animals and fictional characters, so when you think about it dead people aren't that far off.

I imagine it would be quite hard to actually fall in love with someone if all you have about them are pictures/paintings, possibly videos and descriptions or recordings. Or maybe a book that they've written. Takes a special kind of person to fall in love if thats all you have.

You can't really fall in love with a person you literally never met (and never will)

You can obviously feel attracted to your idealization of a person. Which is kinda what happens with "love at first sight", to a certain degree it is similar. But a crush on someone cute like Young Stalin isn't the same as love imo.
