Puella Magi Madoka Magica
| So I'm interested in watching this series. However, I've never seen a magical girls show, and since I've heard that this was a "deconstruction" or whatever, I'm a little worried that I won't get as much out of it as someone already immersed in the genre. Should I give it a go anyway? |
| I was never into Magical girl shows when I started it, and it didn't affect how I saw the anime. It is much different than your typical magical Shoujo anime. Simple put, everything is dark rather than happy go-lucky. |
| Same here, I've never watched a show about magical girls before, but this didn't stop Madoka Magica from being a 10/10 for me. I think the character designs being what they are communicates enough about what you "should" expect from the show, as in, happy-go-lucky girls cheerfully employing magic and having fun. Which this show is not about. But that's for you to find out. |
| To be honest, the best way to have experienced this ride was to have watched it when it aired. No one had any idea what was going to happen and had no preconceptions going into it. The discussions about what people thought was happening was honestly half the fun. When you expect something to happen, even if you don't know what it is, the effect is just not as strong. And if it helps you, this is my favourite anime of all time, but I generally hate the typical monster of week, shallow plot and character development previously typical mahou shoujo. |
