| As hype for a particular title builds up, there will be people in the fanbase that will inflate the scores before it even airs. One example is the upcoming SAO Movie that hasn't aired yet but already has ~742 rating it a 10. |

| Bumping this too. I agree, screws up the rating and encourages people to make fake accounts to boost/drop shows. Btw this is a problem with both fans and haters, as seen by the currently airing Gintama season, not one side is more to blame than the other. |

MAL does nothing with the data until the show starts airing, at which point it becomes irrelevant since people are bound to change their ratings to what they actually think of the show once it starts airing. Top upcoming is literally just ranked by member count. MAL considers it to be the anime that the most people are hyped for rather than bothering to calculate how hyped each person is or a mass of how much hype each one has communally. I personally see no downside to removing the option to rate anime before they air. |

| Agreed.. I feel like you couldn't always do this.. I also noticed you can mark a show completed before its finished airing.. While I personally find it convenient for preliminary scoring, i could see it being problematic when shows get hyped.. |
