THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Just saw inside Japanese theater... pretty well done in my opinion. Tiny spoiler: film contains most of the material from the ONAs so it is not required to watch the ONAs before watching the movie. I don't want to go into spoilers so I'll leave my thoughts inside my blog.

Wonderful movie. Glad the God of the Robots granted her wish. He was able to carry on her work and leave it to a new generation of star gazers Hard to stop crying when she stopped working until he was finally reunited with her

Very powerful and very emotional, I'm surprised my box of tissues isn't empty. Didn't bother me that most of it was the ONA. My eyes lit up when I saw the robot goddess, I thought OMG it is possible for Kuzuya to bring Yumemi back to life through her. Really sad that he died when he did, though it was awesome to see that Yumemi's wish came true, there was only 1 door and they were reunited once more.

it's definitely worthy to watch, and this is how a good story looks like. Although it's short, but who defined that short story can not become classic?

Honestly I was more interested in the continuation of the story from the ONA and how the main character becomes a stargazer instead of seeing him pass down his legacy and die. Furthermore, this is more like an alternate version rather than a sequel since they pretty much copied and pasted the ONA scenes for most of the movie.

Great watch. You don't even need to watch the ONA to watch this. Just a quick question, how did the robot goddess move at the end because mc wasn't able to put the memory card in the slot due to him trading it with the kids. Was the robot at the end not Yumemi? Either way, hit me with a good amount of feels. 8/10

Seems like the android in the Planetarian Jerusalem Drama CD, though I only saw the cover art with a nun robot with a gun. I think the trigger to activate is the gift pendant. Notice it starts glowing whenever the goddess is near. |

Absolutely loved the movie: it does the original all the justice it deserves. While the transitions between parts are sometimes sloppy, the film as a whole feels like a solid work of art. Very emotional, very beautiful (thanks in part to the wonderful OST) and very thought-provoking despite its short length, simple setting and just a handful of characters. A very moving piece on how precious - and fragile - our world is and what it really means to be human.

Damn, I really am shocked by how good this extended adaptation was! Just unbelievable touched, the ona's had already a great story, but with this backstory attached to it just makes it 10x better! And I can say that it really has been a while since I've seen something as good as this, that really actually touched me that much! Looking at how they ended this was just beautifully done, if they actually proceeded with it then the ending would be too generic, and with an ending like this it just made it perfect for me. Really loved it I must say! A superb story in an epic setting with very amazing character development! All in all just purely fantastic!

Yumemi's voice! That old man. Is that kid a descendant of Naruto? They found the old man. Could he be? Elemiya is pretty. It is him. YUMEMI!!!!!!! Damn. Kuzuya had a chance to get some pussy...cat from Izaya. Damn those old hags for talking about Kuzuya like that. You don't know what he's been through. Dat blood. No! FOCK! Yumemi's you know what still got me focked up! Yumemi's memory card! Those old hags are kicking Kuzuya out. Assholes. WTF! Is that Goddess a.... Kuzuya is jizzing his pants at the sight of the robot. OMG! Put the memory stick in! No! Don't robot cockblock him! Kuzuya sees Yumemi again in Planetarian heaven! Fock! My eyes got watery. RIP Kuzuya. Those damn kids will never figure out to put the memory stick inside of the robot, especially behind the ear, and that is what kills me. Yumemi's death focked me up so bad that I had to wait a week before watching this.

The framing of the past (ONAs) makes the movie better than the net series. It's still too long: 10-15mn of ONA material could have been cut out. Enjoyment: 4/5 Score: 7/10 Watching this all at once, I felt sometimes like they were trying hard to move me when it wasn't necessary. Note about the amateur subtitles: the english was awful thanks to weird conjugation, gender and singular/plural choices. (and I'm not even an english speaker)

All I have to say is that this is one of the more underrated anime I've come across. the 8/10 rating is almost precise for what this anime is, but how is this not a more known anime? How is this not a more featured anime on youtube anime lists? I had to stumbled across the anime on myanimelist doing a deep search for anime to watch. This is an incredibly underrated anime in terms of popularity.

Beautiful. I had hoped he would tell the kids to put the memory card in before he died(I wonder if it had it's own memory card and he pushed it in). They have no clue now what it is. What really got me was the ending credits. Got to see the stars past the polluted sky... but wtf was that weird spaceship, and why was Yumemi's voice being heard from it? Beautiful follow up from the ONAs, but now more questions unanswered.

Was the robot at the end not Yumemi? She was another robot, with her own mmc. The people mistook her for a goddess because she was human looking yet timeless. He just adjusted one of the cables that was misplaced, allowing her to recharge her battery (green light vs red light). After fully charging she slowly booted herself, and went to him since she sensed he was ill (and he had the pendant too), but since she couldn't help him (it was too late), she prayed for him instead. If you think about it, she did the same thing he did to Yumemi. Reassuring him and wishing he will get to an heaven not split in two. About the fact he didn't put the memory card in her and the kids probably won't ever know how to do that...I would not worry. The treasure will last long enough to eventually find someone able to get all the knowledge inside that, BUT, BUT, I hope they would never use it as a memory for a new robot. That would completely defy Yumemi's being in Heaven. Let her be. Let her live in heaven, helping humans forever. Final score 9/10. I cried a lot. çwç |

Watched it today after doing my re-watch for the Planetarian ONAs. Honestly, I think this works more as an film format than an actual ONA series, despite that I think they got the point across with it and the end note was even more so bitter sweet, rather than overall happy in a sense. I like the overall transition change between past and future because it pretty much tells and says the changes by comparison, which works nicely. I won't deny that I cried at the end because of how it was executed, which is why I think this work out more as an movie in my eyes. Unfortunately, I still had some of the same issues with the series, but this movie changed how I think about Planetarian, in some degree. I'll give it a 7/10 overall, probably an 8 if I end up really liking it when I think about it through.

Ishinomorii said: did they put this memory chip inside the new robot? From what I understood, no. Unless I missed something/misunderstood. He gave them the chip, didn't explain what it was properly, and he dies without getting a chance to put it in or even show that it goes in and where it does go in because he had given it to them. I'm thinking they have been praying to the android like it was the statue of a goddess and were surprised to even see it moving around. |

I am sure he did not put the memory card into the nun android. You can see when he try to reach for his necklace for the memory card, he REALIZED he already doesn't have his "treasure" anymore (swapped with the kids). This is also symbolized they are both dead in that world and meet in the same heaven. Think about it, if someone put the card into the nun android, it is kind of like resurrection/reincarnation for planetarium android. I also think he did not activate the nun android by wiggling the cable at her back. But when he wiggle the cable behind the nun android, he is standing VERY CLOSE to her. His necklace (swapped from the kids) and nun android necklace were close enough to activate the nun android. (see both necklaces are flashing green). This is also like a "fate" event. If he doesn't swapped treasure with the kids, his action (wiggle cable) will not activate nun android. If he did not activate nun android, nun android will not blessed him when he is dying. If he die without nun blessing, he will not think he will meet Planetarium android in the heaven.

I've watched the ONA series some time last year or earlier this year and I cried a lot. Despite knowing what will happen for the most part, I managed to cry even more this time around. Yumemi in Heaven with her creators and Junker... It was so beautiful ;-; The women in the settlement were pretty mean but I guess that's what happens when the first guy you've seen in years is too old to have children with xD The pendant was the kids' treasure because it was some kind of a blessing from the goddess. Those who approach it while wearing the pendant will activate her pray for you protocol, making the device be a means of the "goddess" watching over you. Once they read his books and get older and more familiar with the robots, they might find a way to transfer Yumemi's memories into the new bot. Rest in peace, Stargazer. May they carry on the task of making people soar with the stars.

recycling most if not all of the ona series was a letdown in my humble opinion. was kind of happy to see starmeister missing a leg and being all pathetic lol. i've done more laughing than crying at this sorry excuse of a 55% recap "movie". i'm not being a jerk here, different people cope with sad things differently. the vn was already a solid work in and on itself, but yeah.

I agree with the poster above. As a sequel movie, the flashback was too long. As a standalone movie, the movie cut too many good parts. I noticed parts where Yumemi observing the customer while he's talking was almost non existent(Yumemi's camera perspective). The death cause of the customer's partner was also not shown, why? It's the important part to show the reason why he was really careful around the liquor bottle. Overall it's a good movie but I prefer the ONA, the ONA also has better ending in my opinion.

Watched about 20 minutes of it before turning it off. Most of it seems to be reused footage from the ONA which is disappointing. It seems best just to watch this long after the ONA. That way the reused footage doesn't feel like such a slog to get through. The dilapidated church and seeing the junker as an old man was pretty neat at least.

Never thought I'll say this but Movie is actually worse than ONA/Visual Novel. Reused footage is expected. In fact most of it is a recap of the ONAs but the bad parts are: - Some minor scenes are missing - Scenes from robot's perspective (not only Yumemi) are missing - Some sounds were tweaked and ended up being worse. Likewhen in ONA Yumemi's voice starts to sound unnatural, gains distortions in Movie this effect is pretty much removed. Some of it is still there but it can be easily unnoticed. - In general all these new scenes do not bring a satisfactory closure. I always wanted a closure of some sort, but with this... I would rather never see this.

I didn't mind the recap as it's been years since I saw the ONA, but I think it probably could have served better as a full sequel with minor flashbacks. The original story definitely brought the feels back really hard and I do like how this managed to give Kuzuya a semblance of closure. He's entrusted the life changing legacy of Stargazing to children who will find a future by exploring a sky they've never seen and Yumemi's wish lives on. It was also incredibly poetic how that nun android came to Kuzuya in his final moments. Just like Yumemi, I'm sure she found happiness to serve humans in their last breaths as she wishes them a safe journey to heaven. 8.5/10. A solid 9 for the ONA story and 8 for the epilogue.
