including the likes of fast food, walmart, factory work, call centers...

would you take a job beneath your acquired skills/education? would you say others should?

would you take a "bad" job? how much standards do you have when looking for quality for a job?

posted before i could finish.

anyways i will edit in an interesting article in here related to the subject. it argues that bad jobs are worse for people than having no job.

Yup. I've worked shitty jobs because I had bills to pay. Making $7.25 an hour was better than $0 an hour. In some situations you've gotta start somewhere crappy to go anywhere better.

Speaking from experience - it is not so much about the experience but about attitude.

The attitude is: if you haven't got work, spend 8 hours a day looking for it.

Yes, most crappy jobs are better than none. You can still look for better work, and omit it from your resume, or embellish.

Even though I was a qualified Toolmaker, I still worked behind a garbage truck, worked as a cleaner at k-mart, cleaned at a school, detailed cars, and other menial work, when in between jobs.

If you are not lazy, you will find work to do.

It is about attitude. Pay your own damn bills.
idk about you but the closer a girl gets to looking like ronald mcdonald, the more aroused i become. CAV

where can we cast our eyes to @PoruMairu who thinks of himself a member of the true church. Helion.

You can't find worse than dishwasher in a breakfast-lunch restaurant, I quit that bullshit after a week despite it having been the only available thing when I was 15. Shitty pay, shitty treatment from people who work less than you yet aren't more important, you go home smelling like shit, the skin of your hands is almost falling off from messing in dirty water for 6 hours without break.

So yeah unless you're homeless, you should have standards for your job.

nah its okay like if a job is not treating you well, you shouldn't be in there.

No. I could pay you minimum wage to eat dog poo, and that'd be shittier (Ah! Aha!) than having no job at all :3
Be thankful for the wisdom granted to you.

I'd say most of the "tradicional" jobs are usefull, every job has their value, but jobs that requires more skill/education should (or tend to) be more paid, your bunch of socialists.
Today they say you're crazy, tomorrow they will say you're a genious.

Nope some jobs are worse than been unemployed, things like zero hour contracts and horrendous working hours make some jobs literally not viable and you'd lose more money and time working it than you gain.

Usually, yes.

Now I see the secret of the making of the best persons.
It is to grow in the open air and to eat and sleep with the earth.
-Walt Whitman

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

It depends on so many things. Are we talking about a temporary job or a permanent one?

If it is temporary, I think life may lead us to the places we never wish to go. If I am broke and really need money, I have to work somewhere to survive. Sometimes we can't afford to choose.

But in the long run, I'd definitely do something to change the situation. A job should satisfy one - not only regarding money but also emotionally and psychologically.

It depends on your personal situation and outside options. There are many cases where it might make more sense for a working age adult to not work — but I think it's safe to assume that you're referring to people who "have" to work (ie. need money to afford basic necessities). Even then, depending on where you live, it might make more sense for you to not work, while relying on the state/charity to survive and spending your time volunteering, attending school/training/self-training, or even doing nothing.

Well once you start to have bills, you need an income coming in. When you do have a degree or skills and know what you should be getting paid then that is when you can get picky if they want to pay you below the x amount you should be getting paid.

I personally don't advise just taking any job because if it is something you hate, you will be going to work mad and just fired anyways. I'm at that point in my life right now though I might be getting a new job soon.

My friend worked for a shitty packing company and quit after two months. Took a toll on his mental health and was so glad when he left.

If you need the job, then the answer is yes. If you don't, then no.
Just need to find out how to quote this every time so I can dodge the stupid 30-character limit.

I have a so called "bad" job now and the worse part is that I don't even get paid yet. I'm almost a thrall. I have to prove myself to get it.

If you like your job, then you will do a better job, simple. But it's good to know how it is to work hard for little. You just do it. My motivation to start studying is sky rocking, though, which is great.

Any job is better than no job. At least you're getting paid, as minimal as it might be. Any type of working experience should have some sort of value to it regardless.

If you hate you job to the point you want to kill yourself rather than go to work that day you obviously are better with no job.You can live without a job if you're resourceful enough or have money saved up or some other income source.

I mean, if you don't have a job and need to find one, then you're clearly no better than any worker working at McDonald's or any of the places you mentioned. If you have bills to pay it or a family to support then that's when you have to be a man and put your pride to the side.

For sure. Not even for the money, but for finding a better job. Employers become suspect with people who don't work and haven't for a while. Even if it's Mcdonalds, the fact that you have a job automatically puts you at an advantage against those who don't. I recommend finding whatever you can, working there for 90 days, and then starting a new job search. Bust your ass too. Get dressed up. Dress pants, dress shirt, belt, nice shoes, clean hair, and a smile. A smile goes a long way. You can get all of this stuff at a thrift store for super cheap. And build a resume with work references.
