Netorare exposes the selfish nature of sexual exclusivity in humans. Some supporters of evolutionary psychology might explain that due to the innate desire to reproduce and spread one's own genes, jealousy can push organisms into competitive behavior. Interestingly enough, in my experience, most of the complaints of netorare tend to center around the jealousy of the readers rather than the feelings of the female character, even if she is being raped/tortured. In these cases, it's likely because the readers are under the subconscious influence of evolutionary psychology; sex isn't about love, it's about spreading one's genes. Porn is typically individualistic; it caters to the desires to the reader, luring them to escape from the world around them and into an egocentric world of sexual pleasure. With the sudden infusion of jealousy, netorare removes the expectation of being served/pandered to, reminding readers that the real world doesn't cater to them and that they are capable of feeling pain. I feel that cucks/masochists don't deserve the hatred they receive, as their sexuality breaks the expectations nature has placed on us. Instead of avoiding pain like most of us, they embrace it and turn it into sexual pleasure. It's quite fascinating. |

Outside of a hentai, sure. IRL, people do actually fall in love 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc times. Sometimes, its time to move on. I see no problems with fictional media depicting such changes of heart if it is done in a way where all three character's mindsets are portrayed realistically to reflect emotional growth. In fact, if all anime showed is that people have soulmates from whom they never part with and that there is such thing as together forever and destiny of such, then that would just sow an unhealthy, overly romanticized idea of how romantic relationships work in the general audience. Sure, it might be an uncomfortable idea for immature viewers. But if we were to adhere only to the idea of showing things to viewers that they wanna see, then we will just end up with an industry full of wish-fulfillment harems/reverse harems where the MC is OP, loved, and nothing ever challenges them. We are already headed in this direction. |

| Probably a couple factors. 1) Many people don't even know what NTR means. If a ship they've been rooting for doesn't sail, many people already cry bloody murder and NTR, even though no actual romantic relationship even existed in the first place. 2) I guess many people who dislike NTR see themselves in the cuck and they dislike that feeling (I would not enjoy that feeling either). But I for one actually enjoy many NTR stories because I simply put myself in the person doing the "stealing", whether that be a guy or a gal. I just don't understand how anyone can like it or at least tolerate, and even more so get off to it. The times I've read or watched it, it was such an unbearably painful experience and I never walk out of it feeling good. The weird thing is that I think I used to at least be OK with it, I didn't even know what it was, but that changed when I watched a thing called Otome Dori. That was so incredibly vile, I had to walk away for like a week, and since then I've done my best to avoid NTR or even simple cheating like the plague.
