Only a weeb would do that shit... -_- Also, probably most people on MAL will never have the chance to procreate at least one time in their life, so unless they adopt then goodluck at naming your kid an anime character lulz.

In 80's there was this popular series broadcasted in my country and many parents called their children after some character from it. Even now people are joking about how stupid it was.

So no, no way I'd do that.

I actually planned to do it, but i realized that it would not be approved.

If i find a awsome anime character with a non-japanese name i may name my child after that.

Or maybe i wont have kids after all. Im still a child.

I think it would depend on the name. Some names in anime are English, for example Edward and Alphonse Elric. Others don't have English origin but are still European, such as the name Euphemia, used in Code Geass, which has Scottish roots. If the name was actually Japanese I would either go with less common names or use them for pets only, but that's just me.

To be fair, tons of names have been used in anime, so it's possible to name someone after an anime character by mistake.

If he/she was half Japanese, maybe, and even then, I'm talking something fairly normal. Otherwise, probably not. That said, tons of people name their kids after fictional characters lately, particularly Game Of Thrones characters like Khaleesi, which wasn't even meant to be a name. If I were to even have a kid, I'd rather they have a somewhat unique name, rather than something common enough to be in the top 100, like my own.

Most anime character's name are Japanese and I see no big deal naming them after a 'beautiful' word. Of course if you name your girl Casca or your boy Femto...you would have to do a lot of explaining to them.

(yes I'm aware they have independent meanings apart from the anime significance but have fun trying to explain to your kids that you named your kid after a character.)

I'm very tempted to do that, so yeah. I'd like to name my future spawn relating to something I and m'lady both love. Finding a character with a name that doesn't sound too weeby isn't too difficult tbh.

It's better alternative to those weird pretentious hipster names used nowadays anyway.

Only if it was a western-sounding name and the name was nice even if you don't know about the character it's derived from.
Like, Alphonse could be an adorable name. Probably.

I hate to bear the bad news, but according to database that is an anime name. Plus there is a japanese platformer for Sega Master System called Alex Kidd in Miracle World. I think you're out of luck.

Any Japanese named "Alex" is probably a reverse weeb or something...the letter "X" doesn't even exist in Japan...

The name "Alex" is synonymous with greatness...truly one of the best names ever.

WHAT???? I live 17 years with this name and i dont know anything about it... is it really synonymous with greatness??? Kinda happy for my dad cuzz he picked it for me... :DDDD

Starting of course with Alexander the Great.

I've been thinking about the for a long time by now. And I'd like to name my daughter (If I have one) Mei 'cuz it's like universal by now. Another one would be Kana. But for a boy I have no clue about a japanese name that doesn't sound too japanese. Maybe Haru (?)

Serious answer : I would give my pet anime character name but not my kid(assuming if I will ever had one).

Even more serious answer: I will name him Dio Brando or Kirito for obvuous reason if it was a boy.

Only if it was a relatively simple name like Allen (from D Gray Man) or Robin (from One Piece), but I sure as hell ain't gonna call them something like Light (from Death Note), Tatsumi (generic anime name), or Naruto (from.... well Naruto).

Unless you hate your children, don't give them a name from an anime. They may not like anime when they grow up.

If I were given a choice over what to name my kid (if it's a boy), I would pick "Kamina" without blinking.

Tbh, I wouldn't want to mess with someone named Kamina. My son is going to be the toughest nigga around, kicking ass and taking names, pulling all the bitches... nad rocking those dope-ass shades like the original Kamina.

Show me a man who wouldn't want that for his son and that's a man without fighting spirit.
