Do you even OVA?

Can't help feeling annoyed when people rate a 30 minute standalone OVA (not preceded by TV series) as if they're rating a full-fledged TV series. Criteria for plot and character development in a 30min work is not supposed to be weighted the same as the one in +200min work. Yet, here we are ->>> art&sound criteria scoring 9-10, in contrast to 1s and 2s in plot&char.

Admittedly, budget may have been the double or close to double than what was necessary if we compare it to 2012 Young Animator Training Projects, each receiving about US$480,000. However, though it may not be quite on par with Little Witch Academia or Death Billiards, it surpasses Arve Rezzle or Ryo and many others by far.

The main point of 1 episode standalone OVAs such as this one should be figuring out whether you want to see more of it or not. Honestly, I'm not far from thinking that same people who give anything under 7 to this OVA would probably rate trailers/PV's in the same way as TV series if they were ever put on MAL.

I'm not even that much frantic about Under the Dog. Although, I would watch the **** out of the series if it was ever made; that fact alone already makes OVA deserving of better reception - it fulfills its big teaser purpose. However, I might be a bit frantic about standard change, because I'd have preferred if OVAs like Cencoroll, and the ones still to come, hit the spotlight, instead of getting downrated for silly/unprofessional reasons.

I personally hate how much negativity the Under The Dog OVA is getting for reasons such as lack of story/plot or little character development. People don't seem to understand that this is an OVA meant to introduce the world of Under The Dog rather than tell an entire story within a short duration. I understand that this OVA may not be the best but it certainly isn't that bad to receive the average score it currently has. I hope that this gets a series since there is so much potential with this story.

The OVA left a lot wanting, and I completely understand why that is; if they had gone into every detail about everything for this, they wouldn't have been able to really display all the action, and such that they wanted to.

That's the issue with it being stuck to 30 minutes, and people not realizing that, if they are going to make it enticing for the audience it's likely that the back story and what not will suffer.

Overall I'm just sad people didn't enjoy it as much as I did, I had a lot of fun watching it, and having a kick starter anime like this succeed would be something great for the future of these kinds of things.

and let's be real besides the English actually being good, the art and gun porn was fan fucking tastic. for those simple facts if you're a person who's okay with turning off your brain and watching something for pure bliss in that fashion the 30 minutes work perfectly for that.

Yes, people should keep their expectations realistic, but the creators should also be aware of the limitations of a single episode and be able to tell a reasonably cohesive story in that episode. The episode was pretty enough, but the storytelling left much to be desired. It did show promise; maybe if there was a full series (or even a feature-length movie) it'd be better.

Well, if you're gonna pretentiously spout edgy dialogue, have a lame ass decoy protagonist, have the story not make much sense and poorly advertise literally everything while having bad production values and a mediocre soundtrack rather than actually doing a decent job at making a pilot that was advertised to have great action, then we have the right to call you out on it. The art here is inexcusable for 2016 standards, especially when the trailer looked so much better yet not a single thing from the trailer was shown. A pilot shouldn't try to advertise everything a full version of it would try to be, and it shouldn't bother trying to act as the true first episode of a canonical series. Instead, it should set some things up so that you can have a feel of what things are supposed to be like without having the audience feel cheated if the story isn't picked up, giving you a glimpse of what to expect if a show comes to pass without this being canon to the point of it hinging on a full show in order for things to work out. This fails as an OVA, so we have to call it out for that, and that's what a lot of you people fail to understand.
