If Tokyo 8.0 Magnitude had focused on the facts and only the facts about the earthquake with no coherent story or characters whatsoever, then it wouldn't have been as great as it is. And there is also differences between media censorship and shit... Just watch some WWII documentaries, or at least, some book dedicated to it, I've one novel that is abou his experiences about the harshness of WWII... Since, as far as I know, there's no anime dedicated to WWI or WWII... You have to really watch documentaries or learn the history.... Don't be fucking spoiled brat. ![]() |
Cute girls doing cute things in any kind of futuristic setting. Whether they're traversing post-apocalyptic Japan in a tank, searching for other survivors; exploring the depths of Europa in a submarine, mining asteroids or teaching a robot girl to be human. Fantasy Russia. Preferably a harem, where the MC gets to be a knyaz, and he gets to fight (and get into his harem) girls patterned after russian mythological creatures. But something like Inuyasha would be good too. Beach anime. I live in a seaside town, and one beach episode a season is just sooo unrealistic! Also, @EcchiLordMamster will like it, but for different reasons. Kami-Koto said: Fantasy settings that aren't way too accommodating and convenient to the protagonist. Can someone explain to me why highschool is so popular in Japan to the point that there is a highschool for every damn thing in anime? 1) Because everybody in Japan went to school. It's one of the few things they have in common. 2) Because it's the default setting. Unless there is a reason to set an anime somewhere else, that's where it's going to be. ![]() |

I guess it'd be nice seeing an anime about a family living during those years, though it couldn't be military or politically focused. Oh really? Well that's a shame, still like you said it would be interesting to see a historical/drama anime in that setting. ![]() ✧Shuba Shuba Shuba✧ |

I consider the whole subgenre of dark fantasy to be a bad idea. JkayW said: And not all anime is cute girls because that's what you "like about it". Understand that we're describing what we want. Indeed, we're describing what we want. I would love to see more rural settings in anime; like for example an anime about rock climbing/ free climbing set in a mountainous area. ![]() |
Like Usagi Drop but more romance included. Full circle if you will. ![]() There has been time when surfing behind a car was cool, just remember to tie the rope on the board and not on your ankle.. |
- Harem anime set in Egypt or near Egypt would be cool as long as it has a good story and not some lame bullshit like most harem anime. - Horror anime set in a massive hospital (or something similar) with a good story sounds great and hopefully not just gore everywhere but with actual plot. - Also need more Futuristic mystery anime focusing solely on the mystery. - More supernatural anime similar to ghost hunt set in historical times would be good. - More Fantasy anime set in historical times would be cool too. - More Apocalyptic settings would be welcome too. ![]() |
Basically, I want an anime version of Friends (the American TV show). A group of mature Japanese characters that just go through life and support each other when one of them is down. I know that in Japan adulthood is 90% just work so there's not really much to work with but I'd be interesting to see Japanese adult life be interpreted in anime. Or really just a series with an adult protagonist. Shows from the past decade hardly even have any adult characters, even phasing out the idea of parents in a story. They're either out of town or dead. You know what, I just thought of a setup: A group of friends who are now in their late 20's receives news that their "secret trove" they had back in high school was discovered. They don't know who took it and worst of all, they don't remember what's inside it. All they know is: it's full of cringey stuff. And the only available time they have on their schedule is the school festival. So, they have to find out who took it and where he or she is in just one day. Think Anohana but with older characters and with a more lighthearted and comedic tone. ![]() |
Survival game setting, there are a lot of manga with this setting, but I don't see much anime with it. Rural setting, be it in Japan or outside Japan, the more or less peaceful life in a small town or village far away from big cities. Not really sure if it is a setting, but anime that is based on or inspired by literature(like the Aoi Bungaku Series), fairy tales, myths, legends or urban legends. ![]() |
Personally would like to see some hardcore cyberpunk/futuristic anime set in the future. But please, no mechs. ![]() |

I would also like to add, though I don't have a specific setting exactly, that I'd love to see a show that focused heavily on one of the Native American cultures. ![]() |
Well.. I might choose a historical one between 1800-1900s Or if it possible.. I don't remember the name though.I'd love to see more stuff in the American Gangster setting, like Baccano! for example, Spy settings like Joker Game are also welcome. Seeing another anime like RAINBOW(Dark, gritty, prison setting) is also something I wouldn't mind. Anything surrounding wars from historical times(Anything from medieval wars to WWII) could have great potential. (Although I'm not sure if it would be in good taste) And although I can't say about the setting, another crime thriller set in the real world that can hold a candle to Monster would be glorious. ![]() |
More fantasy with serious/dark material. Like Re Zero Would love another horror anime that is genuinely creepy . Like Higurashi More College Romance Like Golden Time ![]() |
Not shit fantasy. Like mainly aesthetically I'm talking here, more subdued colour pallet would be great. Also I suppose having less gamey fantasy settings would be really cool. Get closer to LOTR not JRPGs. ![]() |

I would say either fantasy or high tech environments where there is ton of action, a legit romance (either let the man pick all the girls or let there only be one) and adventure. (NO SAO ISN'T GOOD, STOP RECOMMENDING IT) I would say something along the lines of Overlord, The New Gate (if they animated this it would be awesome), Tsukyote New Saga (Same as before), Shiro No Kokokou Monogatari (Same as Before). ![]() |

I understand why there's so much anime set in high school (because I think it's some combination of it being something most people relate to, that it's targeted at a high school demographic, and that it's a kind of wish fulfillment thing) but it's just not something that interests me. If a good show has some element of a high school in the background, it won't stop me from watching it. But at the same time, I think that there are a bunch of story possibilities that could be explored without sticking to that formula, especially if the writers are trying to achieve the whole 'escapist fiction' thing. ![]() |

College instead of high school, should work as well since it's not a reach for high school students (probably main target audience). ![]() |
One of the settings I want: a) Settings like The Evil Within (a Japanese game) and Re:Zero. I want more shows that resemble these two in terms of atmosphere where the protagonist is really powerless and only rely on his instinct and his wits to survive in an unforgiving world. More gore and deaths would give the thrill. If the character can somehow reset (like Subaru from Re:Zero), it would be a must-watch for me. b) Settings like The Wolf Among Us (telltale games). Hm, are there any shows that involve abundant fable characters? Or..any show that has an infamous sheriff/detective that can explode at any time? Either one, I'll watch it. This is just a simple list. I can go on and on about the settings I want to see in anime. ![]() |
