NASA Warn Asteroid Could Hit Earth Causing ‘Immense Suffering And Death’

Guys, I don’t really know how to tell you this but the world as we know it could be end sooner than we thought.

Normally we don’t take this stuff mega seriously as it’s usually just mad conspiracy theories, but the big boys at NASA are the ones behind this story, so it’s probably legit.

Their scientists have issued a warning that an asteroid could hit the Earth, causing ‘immense suffering and death’. Yikes.

The space agency are that concerned that they’re sending a probe to collect rock samples from the asteroid they’ve named ‘Bennu’.

This asteroid can be seen every six years from Earth, but in 2135 it’s expected to pass between us and the Moon, The Mirror reports.

And this could effect its orbit and set on a collision course for our planet, Armageddon-styley.

NASA investigator and professor of planetary science, Dante Lauretta, is leading the mission to collect samples from asteroid which he said could provide ‘vital data for future generations’.

The Osiris-Rex probe will arrive in 2018 and then 12 months surveying Bennu, in hope of working out how its course is affected by absorbing and radiating sunlight.

The probe will then head straight back to Earth where it will arrive in 2023, The Sunday Times reported.

Hopefully this isn’t the beginning of the end, but if it is can someone put in a call for Bruce Willis please? He’s pretty good at sorting out stuff like this xD

It doesn't pose any existential threat to the planet. In fact, the chances of collision are extremely low too (0.037 %).

People are gonna shoot at at and change its course straight to earth.

NASA scientists be like, "Mr. President, we got good news and bad news".
"What's the bad news?"
"We changed the Bennu's course to the earth"
"OH MY GOD! What's the good news!?"
"We don't need to worry about relations with Cuba anymore."

Yeah, and that's why we don't need asteroids. the Earth will be a barren wasteland in 2 centuries anyway with that mindset :p.

Can't expect much more from far right animu fans I guess. They're too busy fapping to lolis to care about anything that doesn't concern them directly.

Well, I would hope once the long term disasters begin, people will consider responsibility for their actions. When the temperature is so hot to cause massive drought and crop destruction or when half the East and West continents are radioactive and hundreds of millions dead.

Unlike man made disasters through ignorance, which may be corrected, an asteroid has no way of being dealt with. It's something unaffected by our actions and is controlled by the cold whim of the universe.

The guys at Nasa probably mistook feets with meters again somewhere in their calculation.

They really became desperate to attract attention again, are they playing nostradamus now? :p

I'm sure it will drop on america tho. Cause it's the only place that matters on earth, asteroids usually wants to go there and have a look at las vegas.

OP you probably should've specified the 2135 part in the title. Unless we get some seriously great advancements in science, I'll probably be dead. And I mean, I feel for the future of humanity, but the distinction between *humans in the future* and *me* should be noted.

Basically this, I mean depending on how technology progresses maybe some of us will be alive by then.

But if that sort of technological advancement is reached then we will probably also have space lasers and shit to blow the asteroid to smithereens.

I already wrote a thread about this.

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1459308

Humans are just not very good at dealing with very far-flung problems that require a great deal of hindsight. It is very difficult to alleviate eitherhow since you're going to be diverting resources and taking the hurt right now to solve a problem that serves no current, tangible benefits for the people that are paying for it.

So even if you were to somehow manage to solve such a problem in the present, there is no guarantee you will be able to reliably do so once again in the future, given that it was so easily resolved in the past. It's difficult to blame people for this mindset.

Certainly though, it's something humanity will have to improve upon in the future.
*ahem* After, the consequences;
