I really liked the manga till chapter 42 but after that it felt somewhat unrealistic, how tf he got away with minor injuries even after falling from such height, we weren't even shown how Nishimiya was saved when she was the one on the vulnerable side, next it was little opera drama :3 cat fights and individual story of each side characters which the least people cares about and idea of completing the film just to make him feel better sounds so odd to me.
If I was in place of Ishida I would be like "F ur film,F u all" :3
I didn't read the manga for romance aspect, wait there weren't even any romance so nvm and the ending wasn't satisfying either, expected a bit more than the open ending.
Had high hopes to finish in high notes since we got such captivating first half.
Still 8/10.

Spoiler tag for the first sentence maybe?

Anyway the most unrealistic aspect is how the police and ambulance arrived in time to escort Ishida away (nevermind how long it took to pull the body out) and start the inquiry before Shoko even makes it to the ground floor... must have taken under two minutes wow.

Personally I like the brevity of the ending - once it's clear they're in a couple I couldn't care less what they get up to. The focal point of the story is them struggling together to be accepted by society in their own way; once they've achieved that, time to let go.

I didn't like the ending because it just stopped. It didn't feel conclusive.

I was dissappointed too. The manga was so good at first. But there were so many fights and romance was zero. Nishimiya was always bullied and all she did was to smile. It's like the mangaka obligates us to feel sorry for Nishimiya. I am glad I finished this manga today. It felt soooo long

I had high hope :(

I feel similiar, like the manga should have ended with chapter 43.

After that it somehow lost to be interesting, i'm down to the last 2 chapter, but don't feel like finishing it, the last few chapters was way to sugarcoated to me.
Somehow it wen't into wrong direction for me.

Sometimes i don't finish series, when i like them and i don't wanna close the story, the fun. Unfourtanetly it's not the case here.

Well yeah a bit of unnecessary drama, but I never really thought of this having major focus on romance, so kinda fine with the ending. They could have shown a timeskip tho.

I don't exactly remember how I clearly felt but based on my notes and trying to remember how I felt.
... I think I did feel it came out of nowhere this conflict. It was possibly forced or redundant. Maybe a bad choice of conflict to the story. I remember being kinda disappointed with the ending.

I think ... Like I said I can't remember. But I know I didn't like that bitch being a misunderstanding bitch. While the heroine was giving care for a movie that wasn't really important at all in their relationship. ... I don't know.

The beginning and middle of the manga was amazing but the ending was kinda disappointing.

I have mixed feelings because I feel like the manga was trying to show that the story might have been based more upon the redemption of the characters rather than the actual love story developing between Ishida and Shouko but im a sap and would have loved to see a kiss at least lol...

Not really.
there's thing i feel unsatisfied but not the ending.

For me the story go with this stage

(MC POV)
Introducing>Characterization>Redemption>Conlusion

In Redemption's part.
(Fake)Confronting>self justifying> realizing > redeeming

The plot on "redeeming" part is unsatisfying, I don't have any real problem with it 'cause it delivered the idea pretty well, just that I feel like it could be better or something along those line.

The ending would have been stellar, if it lead us to a sequel for the manga.
Which it doesn't happen, so I agree with you guys...

I feel that if the ending wasn't so sudden and a little less anticlimactic it would have been a little bit better. It seems to always be hard to properly end a story for a lot of authors and most of the time that is because they either suck with romance or they leave themselves with too much material and not enough ideas and/or time. (Sometimes it is the publishers fault.) They really tend to dig themselves into holes a lot.

I can't really say that this ending is either happy or bad , maybe a bad happy ending , nothing was answered , the romance was just dry towards the final chapters , we have a saying in my country " everything is in the tree and the tree is in the air " in other words nothing was resolved , at least not for me , the manga began strong but fumbled the ball right when it counted the most , I just hope that the movie will be better ... Because of this all I can give this manga is an 6/10 and I am generous if I say so myself .

Dissapointed with final chapters. I wouldn't complain but there clearly was romance between them. Nishimiya even tried to confess to Ishida at one point. After that no progression what so ever. I was going to rate this manga 9/10 but have to settle with 8 because of how the ending was handled. Everything should have at least been cleared up. It didn't necessarily need a kiss or deeper romance but at least making their true feelings known.

A bit unrealistic after how much they wen't through. I mean someone close to you almost dying and you still hide/ don't share those feelings? There shouldn't be a wall like that after all of that stuff. I would imagine they wouldn't take it for granted that the other one will be by their side for all eternity. No one is granted tomorrow. We never know what happens next. Telling how you feel should be the first thing to tell in their situation. That night at the bridge should have been it.

Still overall one the best mangas i've come across. This story can be taken seriously. None of that modern kawaii stuff and what not. Realistic story for a modern manga.

I love the series. But I do admit the second half after the fall was a bit stale. I believe this is due to the spread out of story to multiple characters at once. Although it helps in expanding those characters, also caused the story to come to a certain hiccups. I feel that it will be better if he add those story in bit by bit in between instead of chugging it to us at the end.

The ending, on the other hand, I love it. Call me bias but I don't read this manga for their romance antics. That's the secondary. However, that doesn't mean their presentation of "love" is nonexistent. There's definitely love between the two; however, they show it through action than words. The ending scene for me shows that they will face the past together and after that....well....leave it to our deduction on what happened, but we already know what we want so I believe that's what matters.

Hmm. I mean I wish there was more of course. I'm pretty sure everyone does, but the conclusion showed.

1. Their holding hands so they will probably start dating, etc, etc in the future
2. He can look at people again so he is not afraid to face what will happen.

Basically it showed all we need to no more. But of course, I myself would wish, where is timeskip, did they kiss. Will they get married? I would be lying if I did not say that.

Apart from dragging out a bit towards the end I felt satisfied with how it concluded. This was never really a love story so the open ended aspect of that is fine by me.
The holding of hands as they go to face their past and future together shows they've finally got over the trepidation and uncertainty that has clouded their lives through the story. They're finally relaxed and confident being together, and whatever that means for their future is a different story to the one being told.
So having gone into this as a path to redemption story I felt it gave the characters new paths to move on to and that was a good point to stop.

Also, the film cuts earlier due to the focus being more on Shouya's journey so it didn't need to resolve the future paths for the other characters.
All my opinion of course.

The ending definitely disappointed me, it just kind of ended and didn't wrap up enough of the subplots well enough for me. They never did go back to Nishimayas confession and their romance progression. They just didn't give enough info for this to be considered a good ending.

It was a lot more I wanted to know about and it just kinda ended.

Wasted a lot of time near the end on people and plots that didn't matter enough but didn't flesh out Shouya and Nishimaya.

Spoiler! Honestly I can completely live with the idea of them not being together, but they set up a romance between them. If they left out the I love you part and at the end where everyone is kinda pushing him to admit his feelings, then I could accept an open ending. I will say this, she ain't got a ring on her finger so we can all believe they get together after the manga! That's what I choose to believe!

No I am not. It is an open ending so it is completely fine that they left off at the point they did. The symbolism in Shouya and Shouko holding hands while walking through the door is an amazing way to end off the manga. Throughout the entire series you see these two characters being drawn to each other and needing to help each other out. While in the early volumes you see these same themes of relying on each other always fall short like when Shouya slips and falls because Shouko failed to grab him or when Shouya falls off the balcony after saving Shouko. By having them FINALY hold hands and take on the next challenge together the author implies this is a relationship that will last a lifetime.

Honestly, my only complaint about the ending was that even after everything Ueno did to her, Shouko decides to go to college with her. Seriously? If it were me, I'd tell the girl to fuck off and never go anywhere near her ever again, especially after the way Ueno kept treating her after Shouko's suicide attempt.

Overall, no. As some people have said already, I wanted to see some romance too, especially from him (a kiss or confession) but the story was never about that, so I'm not upset either; we can figure out the rest by the hand-holding at the last page.

No the ending for me at least made perfect sense considering that central message of the story was learning to forgive others and to forgive yourself and I respect the Mangaka for staying through to that message through out and not deviating to much from it, I will say I think the ending is good for what is but it personally left me wanting more.

And people say there was never romance. There was, but just abandoned. This is the perfect story for romance. Like seeing past someones faults and loving them regardless.
