And where is your awesome art and animation? Someone want to say something more about it? It's hard to produce something which looks more bad than this. I'm not a hater, I love Rewrite, but, well.

If someone say again that Rewrite has a great art and animation...

Beautiful 3D models.

Beautiful "shading"

Awesome pixelized backgrounds

Amazing CG

Top notch work in general. I'm impressed.
Dub = fake crap. Always.

Not many people thought it was going to have great Animation and art. Was mainly VN people that thought so.

I said that one good animator don't make a whole show good animated.

Other than this it was good, at least for the VN readers, though the pace wasn't that good.

Now i REALLY hope they don't make only 13 episodes...

Better than nothing, I wanna see Lucia's sunflower camp!! Guess that would be too much... weird since they showed some of the others.

Does CR has the anime already subbed? Well HorribleSubs released it so...

No one ever said that this was going to have beautiful art. Even from the PV2, I could tell at a glance that Rewrite's Artstyle will have lower quality than most other Key works. And even most other 8 bit shows have higher quality visuals.

The animation was pretty fluid tho. And the stuff did a pretty good job here. Nothing great but at least it was fun to watch

Animation was very fluid but the art is meh.

But i don't care, this episode delivered and im a vn reader too.

That final part with Kagari fighting the familiar was sick. The pacing is great.

BEST FIRST EPISODE OF THE SEASON IMO.

The first episode is 43 minutes? I wonder if the rest would be like that, it would be great since VN adaptations usually fall short due to time constraints. Either way, if they keep it 43 mins long an episode it will basically be a 2 cour show in 1 season :D!!!! I am halfway through the episode and I had to come post on here that so far I think this show is amazing. Stunning visuals/background settings/atmosphere and animation from what I seen an intriguing story with a shroud of mystery and the characters are very likeable. I think I was right to make this my top anticipated anime this season. I feel like I am going to thoroughly enjoy this. I should add that for some reason this show gives off sort of an eerie vibe to it with a shroud of mystery paired with its moeness lol!

Today has been a good day for releases, first SnS S2 had an amazing first episode and Rewrites first episode thus far has been great. I am excited to see what other shows holds in store for me this season. I can't wait to see how this story unfolds, and I found out from someone a little while ago that this will be an anime-original route which is great, since the VN/manga readers can enjoy a fresh perspective on the series along with us anime only viewers; although I did read the 6 chapters of Rewrite Side B before watching this and I will probably read all of the chapters for Rewrite Side R too, since apparently that is a different route as well. I think I may actually get the VN for this as it seems like one of those type of series that needs to be fleshed out of many hours of dialogue and story/character interactions + all the different routes to be explored.

I am generally excited!!!! I will be back to rate this episode once I finish the other half, but for now 5/5 for first half of this episode.

Reserved score for 2nd half of episode: 5/5

Also if anyone knows if the other episodes will also be 43 minutes long, please let me know. If they are then I am going to be extra hyped for Saturday releases :D!!!!!

Anyway, as for first impression. It's okay. Felt rushed and the art was not so good. The animation felt okayish for now but we'll have later on for more of that. Didn't see myself laughing at anything.

6-7/10 for a first impression I guess. -Pts for art and feeling rushed.

It was like you start reading the book, and after first chapter, you would jump to 8th. VN readers know what happened meantime, but we are in total niche. It could work as a recap of VN (or not even a recap...). Pacing is worse than in Grisaia. They ommited that many important informations that I don't even want to start mentioning it.
3/10 for me for 1st episode - story, art and animation, I didn't include the music because - thanks God - they are using original soundtrack. I really don't want to complain anymore, but I just can't. I can't be satisfied with something like this. I've seen many rushed VN adaptations, but almost all of them somehow managed to tell the story properly. I mentioned it many times, I love VN adaptations, I was positive towards Rewrite until PV3.

Quite a long time ago I read Rewrite VN but it did followed quite well with VN, never thought it would be good.
Arts is meh but it's watchable.
My first impression on first episode is good I dunno if they still will continue as 50 minutes each episode but I was surprised of length of episode, animation quality is not that bad.

Lots of stuff thrown all over the place. And the result of that is confusing. Hope the pacing will turn to normal.

But hey, what do we expect from 13 episodes.

Although that scene in Terra is good though.

Introductions to all characters, that kind of dragged on.

Otherwise every serious scene knocked it out of the park, especially the dream sequences. That was awesome.

Can't really make out what is going on yet, but it'll clear up surely.

First off I must say that this series has a nice OP song

So far the main characters aren't bad at all but I feel like they truly shine when they're paired up together, Like Kotarou and Ohtori or that scene where Kotarou and Kotori made fun of that one guy xD

I think that this episode episode did a good job introducing the characters and the world while leaving one very curious as to find out where all this supernatural stuff comes in

Nice art and animation, decent soundtrack and it had just the right amount of suspense....The different tones worked well too

If you finished moon, then you should be totally alright. The anime didn't show ( and probably won't show) any parts of Terra yet. Just moon and some of the common route

YES, THIS WAS AMAZING! A bit fast at times, but the dialogue and atmosphere was spot on. They totally nailed Kotori's character as well. I am really satisfied.

I do wonder if anime only viewers would have a hard time keeping up with the episode though. Because so many characters got introduced and so much stuff happened, wow. It must be confusing.

WTF did I just watch? Infantilized girls, sleepwalkers with a fetish for coins, transfer students with super strength, witchs, ghosts, fairy vampires, boss monster, dimensional travel, dismemberment. Also Colonel Sanders. Art is also Clannadish, but not in a good way.

It IS confusing. I disregard my every knowledge on the source material and the result, my brain couldn't totally follow. At least at the 2nd half.

Not really sure what all the buzz over this anime was about because this didn't really wow me. It's only the first episode though, so maybe it'll take a few more episodes for this to (hopefully) get on the right track. With this being 13 episodes, I hope it doesn't turn into a total train wreck before that happens.
I'm no special story or anything. I'm just a manga that wants to be read, like you could find anywhere. But, if, for argument's sake, you were to adapt me into an anime series, it would certainly be....a tragedy.

I wasnt expecting it otherway. Even with 24 episodes, it would had been hard not to rush it.

The art is what it is, PV prepared me for that, audio is great, that is a given since it cames from the VN.

So they started with hinting for the beggining of Moon's route heh?! Then hinted for some highlights of each heroine route.
Then follow common route...

-Kotori's first scene was so funny, forgot about the coins, I think the other option was using a scissor to cut her hair. lol
Great voice acting for Kotori, they captured her spirit very well.
-Yoshino is the man!Lol for Kotarou peeking at him taking a piss.

-The mighty class rep takes appearence!!

Nuff said, she was amazing, they adapted her well, I wanna see more of Lucia-sama!!
I was missing those growls of hers, too bad we didnt get to see the canteen scene yet, I hope they at least adapt it.

-Yoshino x Tennouji! Nice save Kotori.
Kagiri munching on him cuz
that was funny, hoping they make her a more interesting character this time around.

-Chihaya's fall, damm, many people will wonder how the hell was she able to survive that.... well she was cute enough here. CHERRIES!!

-Shizuru.... UGH!!!!
Kawaii, kawaii, KAWAII!!!!!!!!!!! She wants to eat lunch together!!! Sardines I bet. xD

-I dunno about them showing Akane's and Chihaya connection this soon, I think it wasnt on common route either, but was exclusive of her route, dont remenber well.

-Kotarou trying to hit some points with Kotori and the infamous Subaki appearence! No BL here!! xD

-Damm, Akane has a really fancy office, even shower there (think it was mentionated in the VN), and those scream pranks really scared them both! That what you get for invading a Witch's Lair, gypsy!! (looking forward for the gaming)
Again those Kagiri late night assaults, poor Kotarou.

-Change yourself, or change the world, mmm...

-Kotarou and Chihaya "date" was a bit strange, showing the golden fields.

-Then Akane calls him back to school, but they are already going edting here and there?! I mean...

Lord have mercy, they really plan to cram the upmost with the time they were given...

-That said, Kagiri vs Mr Octopus was kinda cool, original stuff, but hey, an enjoyable mini fight. That Rewrite logo!!!!!
And then The Witch makes her ever first official appearence, damm they had to end it there! It was supposed to be an 1 hour long. I want to see more Akane's!
...at least they let us desiring to see more on the next episode. But it will be only 23 minutes long?! I would be okay with 13 episodes, IF everyone of them were just like this one, almost 50 minutes long.

No use complaning, it is what it is.
Overall, as a first episode, knowing the VN... it was very enjoyable fanservice, I have to hand it to them.
The way they are doing may work, it maybe became a good anime, a good adaptation wont be for sure, easy enough to see that, they would had to adapt the overall plotline like an omnibus format.
Hinting to Moon's route and Terra was smart, if they were going to to a faithfull adaptation, it would be quite interesting to see it here, never thought about that.
But the way they present stuff in the second half, maybe too overhelming for newcomers. At least we got to see the cast interation for the first time, they managed to make it feel enjoyable just like it was in the visual novel, from here on, only time will tell.
I just hope they dont bury the series more than they already have done, with going the shorther route, just to promote the VN, instead of doing it justice an adapting every major plotline.

I will be surely here next week to watch the second episode, that is the best compliment I can make.
It left me wanting more, with my hype already lower. 8 bit dont turn this into an even bigger mess... if you do I will haunt you forever, just like Kagari's

Going in completely blind, I found it promising. There're a lot of intriguing mysteries and plotlines set up, and the characters are likable. I'm usually put-off by the dating sim adaptation stuff, but it flowed pretty well all things considered. There was a lot of unrealistic dialogue, but I'm sorta used to that. I felt like I followed it fine, I wonder why people are confused.

Got interesting a lot quicker then Clannad did, not that that's difficult.

Damn the writing is absolute shit tier. Why do these japanese writer feel the need to TELL instead of SHOWING all the god damn time?

Everyone has to explain everything all the time instead of just letting the viewer find out by what is going on.

But even besides that, the directing is awful was well.

That scene where he finds Kotori in the forest. She is asleep on what seems and island surrounded by a pond.

My first thought was "How will he get over there without getting wet?" then "How did she get over there?"

Then next scene he is next to her. What happened? Did he teleport? Was there a path to the seeming Island? Nope, not gonna show that. Irrelevant. And yeah it kinda is, but it is still bugging me.

The next annoying part was the whole "Now I will explain the setting to the viewer". BOOORING Just show the fucking city and what is going on, not just "okay info dump complete time for other things"

Then that Yoshino scene was just absolute shit. Wtf? He talks to him, he acts stereotypically evil and then he suddenly turns around and starts explaining the guy?! Holy fucking shit that is sooooooo bad.

And generally that entire scene made no sense to me. Why did the protagonist act the way he did? What's up with that?

https://i.gyazo.com/3a4a06271539ed206125da9c6ef38359.png

And this is where I had to stop.

Did she really just infodump her character while in a conversation with 2 other characters? Holy moly, this shit is so 1/10 unbelievable.

nice first bate mate
It start pretty average but becomes better afterwards.
Can you still say this when 8bit is going for an original omnibus ending (as I have heard
lmao what does original omnibus ending mean?

But yeah, that statement still stands right now. The common route is slow, but once the plot starts to unfold it should get better. But we don't really know right now since it's NOT going to be omnibus, but instead will be animating an original route(has nothing to with 8bit btw, other than Tensho's cooperation with Aniplex)

That Key coffee advertisement, lol.

This episode was a lot better than I had anticipated after hearing it would be 1-cour. That was some fine action, and I think they did a decent job with the atmosphere. But holy shit, they already introduced all of the heroines. Can't say I'm surprised, considering they only have 13 episodes to work with.

And the first minutes of the episode gave me the goosebumps just like in the VN, in a good way. I'm liking it so far.

Haven't played the VN so I can't say anything in terms of an adaptation but as an anime It was quite an interesting first episode.

I'm really liking the character interactions, They're fun to see and all the girls are really cute.
Wonder what this accel power of Koutarou's is or rather I'm interested in knowing how all this fantasy stuff is gonna tie into the storyline.

The CG does look weird and the CG of the yellow monsters was horrid.

Anytime I think back on VN I always have great memories. VN was great, and it's story is great, it's characters are great. But ever since I finished the VN I always though, there is no way to properly adapt it. The story is super long, anime deals horribly with multi heroine routes which in this story aren't just, new heroine to fall in love with but rather a single grand storyline that needs all routes to be at it's fullest. (Well maybe except Lucia's but Lucia's route is an absolute masterpiece on it's own)

Here we finally get it, REWRITE ANIME. It's supposed to be anime original, or rather new route that did not exist in vn, or from what I saw, A strange mix up of serious scenes combined with new scenes everything rushed to the point that even VN reader will probably have hard time catching up what is going on.

Like I do know what is going on, I know why all those strange things actually make sense in grand picture but how on earth is an anime only supposed to understand that all? I believe that they will have absolutely no idea what is happening.

What's more, this anime jumps all over the place with it's scenes. There is no good transition but we simply jump from scene A to scene B without that what was between. What's more those scenes are naturally cut to pieces as what took 10 minutes to read through in VN, is but a minute or two in here.

Then again when I saw Gil and Pan (The flying little people) I was like... okay, this is it... we are riding an express here! What's more it seems like this train will be entering Moon/Tera route for the grand ending and this will mess up things even worse.

Even simple thing like MC thinking about using Acceleration no one but VN reader knows what it is about and even they can be confused as Kotarou's power was called is supposed to recalled Rewriting just like the name of the VN. Te name rewrite describes that power well, but acceleration, WTF? Translation error?)

Truly for anime only watcher the only recommendation I have is to not watch this anime and go read the greatness that is VN. If you watch this you will just spoil yourself. Also from what I saw so far, I would not recommend this anime to anyone.

Now enough ranting as I long since knew that... this anime will be bad, AND I WILL SURE ENJOY THE HELL OUT IT!!!!!

Oh yea! Rewrite anime is here! I have been waiting for so long to return to this world! I love this story, I love this soundtrack, I love those characters and Kotori is the best waifu ever! Gods be praised for allowing me to live till this day and see it all. There is so many flaws in this anime but I love it so much... just by hearing the soundtrack I was already in heavens and Kotori's introduction scene with her chasing the coins... I was crying while seeing it. I was also crying when Lucia showed up, it was a scene with her being the class rep going around punching people but I just saw her and saw storyline in my mind and I saw those gloves..... OH NO THE GLOVES!! I truly wept, I truly did.

Lastly the biggest hit the question

"You have the power and you are dissatisfied with the world? What will you change, the world, or yourself?"

When I read it I read it not in the way it was translated in anime but in the way I still remember reading it in VN and then pondering about that question multiple times over the days, never finding the right answer.

But damn, this anime is bad, most people will drop it after the first episode and no one will care but truly this anime has been made for people like me! As I sure hell enjoy the crap of it.

(The world is cruel to me though. The three amines I was most excited about this season were Rewrite, Berserk, and Tales of Zestiria. My predictions for all of them was "those animes will most likely be bad, AND I WILL SURE ENJOY THE HELL OUT IT!!!!! So far two predictions were right as my feelings for berserk are quite similar to this. But nevertheless, even if it's only this, I still feel happy and I feel blessed)

But truly, good luck non VN readers to make any sense out of it.

What a terrible mess of a first episode.
People must really love their loli waifus if this is hailed as one of the best VNs out there.
This show has no idea what it is doing. or what "scene transition" means. Not every director can be Satoshi Kon but being this incompetent at getting from scene A to scene B should not be allowed.

It almost feels like a parody.

This show has no idea what it is doing. or what "scene transition" means. Not every director can be Satoshi Kon but being this incompetent at getting from scene A to scene B should not be allowed.

It almost feels like a parody.

When your trying to adapt a 50+ hour visual novel into 13 episodes that what happends

What a terrible mess of a first episode.
People must really love their loli waifus if this is hailed as one of the best VNs out there.

I agree, the scene transitions were pretty random and bad, and there were couple of bad looking scenes, but the scenes that were animated by Masayuki Nonaka were pretty great (the shizuru intorduction and the scene were Kotarou runs around his room scared)

Key anime adaptions are almost never good (even with an competent studio),this has 8bit (an incompetent shitty studio) and to make matters worse only 13 episodes and anime original route at that.

Let's seen how this guaranteed trainwreck turns out, betting this'll be below average to average at best if we're lucky.

Aside from the subpar visual quality and weird music transitions that pretty much come out of nowhere (it's like they just jammed those tracks in, but they don't quite flow with the episode), I found this pretty enjoyable. This might turn out fine, since they seem to be realisitic with how much content they intend to adapt.
