When will Gildarts show up again?

So, do you think Gildarts will show up again anytime soon?
Do you think he will show up to destroy the Alvarez Empire or will Mashima forget him forever?

Gildartz is difficult to use, he's the strongest mage in FT, so if he were to lose it'd be hard to let others win, so he has to win.
But since he's not one of the main characters, it's not his role to defeat anyone important.
He could take care of fodders or maybe one mage out of the 12 that Mashima does not want to spend time on (is there still some unknown ones?).
