My local library has a pretty limited selection. Plus I like to own a copy because I'm one of those weirdos that enjoys filling up a bookshelf.

There's never anything good at a library I go to, plus they have that plastic cover.

I'd say dirt cheap second hand bulk buying = master race.

I absolutely love buying books. Especially ones with nice spines that look great on my shelves.

I still use the library, but if I really want to show my support for something (a good author, a manga I really liked scanlated, etc) or if I've just got some money I'll buy books.

Library has poor selection anyways. Plus I like to read on what I'm following the day they come out, since normally I'd be done by lunch.

Personally I don't remember as much when I read from an E-book than I do from having the tangible version. I'm not sure why exactly though.

I don't know books have more charm than e-books.
It's more convenient as well, you I-pad/smartphone/whatever... can be stolen or broken easily.
Nobody would still a book however.

Lol, yes it's true. Not everyone (believe it or not) can get to a library whenever they want. There is no guarantee that a given book will be "in" when you want to read it. As for myself, my book collection feels like a good ass friend. I just like the feeling when my eyes light up when I see a book I want or have wanted, just like the times my eyes light up when I see the waiter/waitress walking towards me with food at a restaurant

Of course :D The best books out there are an investment in terms of enjoyment and knowledge gained. I'm running out of space on my bookshelves (not much to begin with) so I need to limit myself to those with high re-read value. I can find other books at the library most of the time.

Sometimes I will. I actually prefer to read on my laptop, but with manga usually if they get licensed no one bothers to scanlate them so you have to buy the physical copy to read it.

The best part of reading manga is the smell of freshly printed paper.
It reminds me of childhood days when you unpacked Yugioh-cards and smelled them like they're cocaine of something

Our library has a limited selection of books, and most of them don't attract me and I feel as if they're not directed to my age. Either I find books and stories for 9 year olds or ones about politics, history, and wars, poetry that targets more mature readers. Now I'm left with tasteless magazines that only feature beauty tips and drama or whatever. That's why I occasionally visit the bookstore at town where I can find imported books from outside that fit my taste and buy them.

Wow what a stupid question...really...

Buying books is love, buying books is life.

I borrow books from the library if it's something I'm not sure I want to own yet and I'm a bit skeptical on it. If I love a book so much, I decide to buy it as my own and keep it for eternity until I die. That way, I can read it over and over again at my own convenience. I don't have to worry about late fees or damages, it's my book and I'll whatever the fuck I want with it. Also... library books aren't usually new. They're sometimes tattered and they never have the fresh new book smell, and that's a smell that can't be replaced. + Libraries don't always have the books you want, sometimes it's either borrowed or it's not in stock.

Seeing my book collection makes me happy, especially because I'm seeing all of what I've accomplished. It's a pretty big deal bud.

Why would people not buy books?

Manga, Light Novels, Novels or whatever, it's much better reading physical copies than from a screen. Plus, I like having my own copies. A lot of my manga volumes are ex-Library books anyway.

I actually don't have problems concerning limited books and things like that

there are around 20 gigantic public libraries in Paris, with millions of books

and with just on library card I can borrow books from all these libraries

also, if they don't have a book I want, all I have to do is suggest one to the library and they usually get it

I guess it doesn't work the same way where you guys are

I'm not from afrika... -.- But you can't borrow a Game of Thrones or Mein Kampf from libraries. + Buying books is good, because you support the culture.

Save the trees. Or if you don't care about the trees, safe some space by going digital.
(Space/weight is an issue if you live in a country where living spaces is smaller, or you move cities/countries every couple of years like I do).

I'd only buy paper books if I really like it and want to put it on a shelf, otherwise I'd just buy it as an ebook.

I'd rather read a book in its original language then a translated version of it so while my college library's selection is far from being limited, most of them are translated. Anyhow I kind of get attached to a book while reading it so I always feel bad when I have to return it (as weird as that might sound). And it's kind of exciting when you buy a brand new book and after you're finished you notice the wear from opening it constantly and turning each page or the blunting of edges from carrying it around in your bag all the time.

1. Libraries only have very limited selections for rental
2. Ever considered that you might actually *want* to have the books you like in your shelf after you've finished them?

Can you put it on your shelf and keep it forever, love it and read it many times until the covers fall off. I didn't think so.
Yesterday we had like a sale called "Book Night" here in my region. Bookstores were fucking flooded cuz everything was cheap. So ill go for Owning over Borrowing any time.

I like to reread and I like paper over a tablet.
When I can afford to, I buy.
Plus I can easily show it to someone, over having to borrow again from the library or searching for it online/digital library. Just bring the copy and read it to them.
Eh just my opinion.
What is the question of if one lives to watch anime or if one watches anime to live?
They both mean that anime controls most of your life.

It's also easier for me to study with a book next to me than reading through a PDF for example :3
